Aqara Installation in London: Smart Locks, Switches, Doorbells and Hubs
Updated
Aqara does not run a home installation service in the UK, and most Aqara kit sold here is EU-format: the wall switches are EU models, and only a few products, such as the Smart Lock U600, are made for British fittings. Vetted pros in the Jack All Trades (JACK) London network fit the UK and EU-market Aqara you have bought, not imports, and check the door, the back box, the bell transformer and the hub first.
In short
Yes. Aqara offers no home installation in the UK, so Jack All Trades (JACK) books vetted pros in London to fit and set up the Aqara you have bought: smart locks, doorbells and cameras, hubs, EU-format switches and relays, blind drivers, radiator thermostats and sensors. A lock needs a door it is made for, a switch needs a deep enough back box and sometimes a neutral, and Thread devices need a Thread border router, such as a Thread-capable Aqara hub. You buy the device, accessories are agreed at cost, and a pro sets a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.
Tell JACK which Aqara products you have, with the names and codes from the box or order, and send photos of where each one goes. The pro prices the job from those photos, fixes, wires or mounts each device, adds it to the Aqara Home app and to Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa if you use them, and tests it with you. The JACK app keeps the job's progress and your chat with the pro in one place.
Below are the Aqara jobs JACK pros take on, a guide to the models that come up most, and answers on what decides each job: the door, the back box, the hub and JACK's own limits.

What do JACK pros fit across the Aqara range?
Aqara devices sold through UK channels, and older Aqara kit already in your home:
- Smart locks: the Smart Lock U600 on lift-to-lock multipoint doors, the U200 and U200 Lite fitted inside over your existing cylinder, and the Smart Rim Lock U500 where a timber door suits it
- Doorbells and cameras: the Doorbell Camera Hub G410, the Doorbell Camera G400, the older Video Doorbell G4, the Camera Hub G5 Pro and Camera G100 outdoors, and the G3, G350 and E1 indoors
- Hubs and set-up: the Hub M3, M200 and M100, older Zigbee hubs, and links to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or Home Assistant
- Switches and relays: the Light Switch H2 EU, Dimmer Switch H2 EU and Smart Wall Switch H1 EU in place of light switches, and the Dual Relay Module T2
- Curtains and blinds: the Curtain Driver E1 on poles and tracks, the Roller Shade Driver E1 on bead-chain blinds, and Aqara's 230 V tubular blind motors on a fused spur
- Heating and water: Radiator Thermostat W600 heads on existing valves, the Floor Heating Thermostat W500 outside bathroom zones, and the Valve Controller T1 on water valves
- Sensors and alarms: the Presence Sensor FP2 and FP300, door, motion and leak sensors, and Aqara's battery Smoke Detector as an extra alarm
Aqara's U400, U300 and U100 locks are not on the Aqara UK Shop, and the U400 is made for American single-cylinder deadbolts, so JACK pros do not fit them on London doors.
Aqara hub set-up and Matter pairing: where most Aqara jobs startDoes Aqara install in UK homes?
No. When we checked on 1 November 2026, Aqara listed UK places to buy but no way to book a fitter:
- Aqara sells here through its UK and EU web store, the Aqara UK Shop run by its UK supplier, and an Amazon UK storefront, and its where-to-buy page lists other UK shops
- Aqara Academy, its training and certification platform, and its installer programme are for trade partners, with no installer finder for homeowners
- The one consumer installation offer we found on Aqara's site is for its Thermostat Hub W200, covers the US mainland only, and the W200 is not sold here
- Aqara's pages leave the buyer to arrange fitting and only now and then say who should do it: its U200 guidance, for example, says a keypad transformer 'should be installed by a professional electrician'
JACK books independent local pros who fit Aqara. JACK does not claim Aqara training or partnership for them, and has no link to Aqara or to Lumi United Technology Co., Ltd., which makes it.
What decides the cost of Aqara installation in LondonWhat does EU-format Aqara mean in a British home?
Most Aqara products sold in the UK are the models sold across Europe; UK-format ones, such as the Smart Lock U600 and the Power Plug H2 UK, are the exception. In practice:
- The Aqara UK Shop gives the Light Switch H2 EU an in-wall depth of 30 mm and the Dimmer Switch H2 34.6 mm, so a standard 25 mm British back box is too shallow and the pro fits a deeper box or a spacer
- The H2's 'UK exclusive version' adds a dark grey button but is still the EU switch, and Aqara publishes no screw spacing to match British boxes, so the pro checks the fixings on site
- Aqara's UK shop calls the no-neutral H1 'perfect for traditional UK homes that usually do not have a neutral wire in the wall switch'; the H2 works with or without one
- The Hub M1S Gen 2 has an EU plug, shipped by the Aqara UK Shop with an adapter, and EU-plug smart plugs such as the Power Plug H2 EU are not meant for UK sockets
- Aqara's region policy says devices are designed for the regions of their original sales market and may lose functions elsewhere, so pros fit UK and EU-market stock, not grey imports
London front doors decide which Aqara lock can go on
Aqara now sells a lock made for British multipoint doors, but no Aqara lock suits every London front door:
- The U600 works only where lifting the handle throws the deadbolt, and its manual says it is not compatible if the latch does not fully retract when the handle is pressed right down
- Fitting a U600 removes your cylinder, and Aqara tells buyers to check with their insurer first; the U200 and U200 Lite keep the key-operated cylinder you have
- Aqara lists no TS 007, BS 3621, Sold Secure or Kitemark approval for its locks, and Sold Secure's smart-lock category included no Aqara lock on 1 November 2026
- A flat's entrance door onto a shared corridor is normally an FD30S fire door, and GOV.UK guidance says changes to it should be made with the Responsible Person's knowledge and agreement
- In a rented home the landlord's agreement comes first, because a lock change alters their property
Which Aqara jobs need a registered electrician, and which don't?
In England, regulation 12 of the Building Regulations and Approved Document P decide what must be notified to building control, not who may do the work. For Aqara:
- No fixed wiring: battery locks and sensors, plug-in hubs and cameras, the Power Plug H2 UK, battery curtain drivers and radiator thermostat heads
- Extra-low voltage, not notifiable: a doorbell on its existing transformer or a 12 V plug-in supply, the U200 keypad on 12–24 V, and PoE cable to a camera or hub
- Not notifiable, though it is mains work on an existing circuit, fitted by JACK pros who do electrical work: an H1 or H2 switch, a T2 relay behind a switch, a fused spur for a 230 V blind motor, and a W500 replacing an underfloor-heating thermostat outside bathroom zones
- Notifiable, and not booked through JACK: a new circuit, such as a relay or transformer given its own new way in the consumer unit, a consumer unit replacement, and any addition or alteration inside a bathroom's zones
- JACK's own limits, stricter than the law: no relay or other new device fitted inside the consumer unit, no fixed electrical work inside bathroom zones, any wiring at a boiler left to a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the Valve Controller T1 on water valves only, never gas
Approved Document P says non-notifiable work should still follow BS 7671 and be tested, so ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for any circuit they alter. The Aqara UK Shop says its Single Switch Module T1 needs 'a professional and qualified electrician'; England licenses no electricians, so competence is what counts.
Electrician or handyman: who can fit each Aqara deviceWhy the right Aqara hub matters before anything is fitted
Aqara devices use two radio systems, and mixing them up is the usual reason a new device will not join:
- Zigbee devices, including most older Aqara sensors and switches, talk only to an Aqara hub; Aqara's Amazon UK listings say third-party Zigbee dongles are not officially supported
- Thread devices, including the U200 and U600 locks, join Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or Home Assistant through Matter, and Aqara's remote features need a Thread-capable Aqara hub, not the Zigbee-only E1, M2 or M1S
- The Presence Sensor FP2 needs no Aqara hub, and the G410 doorbell is a Zigbee hub and Matter controller itself
- Aqara asks for the Hub M3 to sit within 6 m of the router, so in a long terrace the pro may wire it by PoE
Is Aqara secure, and how long does it get updates?
Aqara's UK statements under the PSTI rules on connected-product security give most of its UK models a defined support period for security updates. As checked on 1 November 2026:
- The Hub M3, Smart Lock U200, Doorbell Camera Hub G410, Light Switch H2 EU and most other UK models with a statement were covered to 31 December 2026
- The Doorbell Camera G400 Wired runs to 31 December 2029, the Smart Rim Lock U500 to 31 December 2028, and the U200 Lite's latest statement to 31 December 2027, after Aqara had extended it once
- No UK statement for the new Smart Lock U600 was listed yet, which does not mean it fails to comply
- Aqara marks the Video Doorbell G4, Hub E1, Radiator Thermostat E1 and two 230 V roller-blind motors as end of life, though the Aqara UK Shop still sells them
- GOV.UK's product safety alerts and recalls showed no results for 'aqara' on the same day
Privacy is set on the day: cameras aimed at your own property where possible, since GOV.UK's domestic CCTV guidance says data protection law applies once a camera records beyond it, and the FP2's sleep, heart-rate and breathing tracking turned on only for the person who asked.
Aqara security updates, region lock and privacyWhich Aqara lock suits which London front door?
From Aqara's product pages, its U200 mounting guidance and the Aqara UK Shop's U600 FAQ, set against London front doors. The pro confirms the details on your door before you buy.
| Your front door | Smart Lock U600 | Smart Lock U200 or U200 Lite | Smart Rim Lock U500 |
|---|---|---|---|
| uPVC or composite, lift-to-lock multipoint with a euro cylinder | Made for it, if lifting the handle throws the bolts and the door is within 35–70 mm backset, 72–92 mm centres and 40–80 mm thick | Listed by Aqara as a 'UK Lift Lever Lock', rated moderate: you still lift the handle, and the cylinder needs the emergency function | Not for this door |
| uPVC or composite, slam-shut (auto-locking) multipoint | Not covered by Aqara's manual, so checked on site | Aqara rules out doors with self-locking locks, which a slam-shut multipoint may count as | Not for this door |
| Timber, with a rim nightlatch and a mortice deadlock | Not designed for it: Aqara's U600 pages describe multipoint doors | Not compatible: Aqara lists rim locks as incompatible, and a lever mortice has no cylinder to turn | The Aqara option: a new Ø50 mm hole at a 40–45 mm backset, door and frame flush, and no BS 3621 claim |
| Timber, with a euro-cylinder mortice sashlock | A single-point lock is outside Aqara's multipoint brief, so checked on site | Within Aqara's 'EU Mortise Lock' type, if the cylinder has the emergency function | Not needed |
| Flat entrance fire door (FD30S) | Not fitted by JACK: it replaces the door's handles and cylinder | Only with the Responsible Person's written agreement, no new holes, and an existing cylinder that already has the emergency function | Not fitted by JACK: it needs a Ø50 mm hole through the door |
Aqara's emergency function means the door unlocks from outside with a key even when another key is in the inside.
What to send in the JACK app for each Aqara job
The pro prices from your photos, so these get the fixed price right first time:
| Aqara job | Photos to send | Also say |
|---|---|---|
| Smart lock | The door from both sides, its edge with the lock faceplate, and the cylinder close up | Whether lifting the handle locks it, and your insurer's lock clause |
| Video doorbell | The doorway, the bell transformer's label and the chime | Battery, wired or PoE, and whether the door opens onto a shared corridor |
| Camera | Each camera spot seen from the ground, and its view | Wi-Fi or PoE model, and where the router is |
| Hub and set-up | The router, and where you would like the hub | Which apps you use: Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or Home Assistant |
| Switch or relay | The switch with its plate on, the light it runs, and the labelled consumer unit | Whether another switch also runs the same light |
| Curtain or blind driver | The pole, track or blind chain, and the nearest socket | The pole's diameter or the track type |
| Radiator thermostats | Each radiator valve close up, with any brand name showing | How many radiators, and whether the valves have thermostatic heads now |
| Presence sensors | Each room, including the ceiling | Who lives there, and whether anyone else's movements would be tracked |
Every Aqara product guide
One guide per model: how it is powered, what the installation involves, what the pro checks and what to send before you book.
| Product | Type | What the guide covers |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Lock U600 | Smart locks | Aqara's handle-set smart lock for UK multipoint doors: it replaces both handles and the cylinder and keeps the lock body in the door. |
| Smart Lock U200 | Smart locks | Aqara's inside retrofit for euro, UK oval and select Scandi cylinders, with an outside keypad; the U200 Lite is the version without one. |
| Smart Rim Lock U500 | Smart locks | Aqara's through-the-door smart rim lock, measured against your nightlatch before you buy, and fitted only where the door suits it. |
| Doorbell Camera Hub G410 | Doorbells and cameras | Aqara's battery or wired video doorbell with a plug-in chime, which doubles as an Aqara Zigbee hub and Matter controller. |
| Doorbell Camera G400 | Doorbells and cameras | Aqara's wired-only video doorbell, powered by a bell transformer or a PoE cable, with its own plug-in chime in place of the old bell. |
| Camera Hub G5 Pro | Doorbells and cameras | Aqara's outdoor camera that doubles as a Zigbee and Thread hub, sold in a PoE version and a Wi-Fi version. |
| Hub M3 | Hubs and set-up | Aqara's flagship hub: a Zigbee hub, Thread border router and Matter controller on USB-C or PoE, with a wall bracket in the box. |
| Light Switch H2 | Switches, sockets and relays | Aqara's EU-format wall switch (WS-K07 one channel, WS-K08 two) sold in the UK: runs with or without a neutral and needs 30 mm inside the wall; the Dimmer H2 needs more. |
| Dual Relay Module T2 | Switches, sockets and relays | Aqara's two-channel Zigbee relay (DCM-K01): needs a live and a neutral, rated 10 A in total but only 250 W for LEDs, for lights, motors and volt-free contacts. |
| Curtain Driver E1 | Curtains and blinds | Aqara's battery curtain driver (CM-M01) in track and rod versions: it runs on your existing track or a fixed 25–32 mm pole and moves curtains up to 12 kg. |
| Roller Shade Driver E1 | Curtains and blinds | Aqara's add-on motor (RSD-M01) for roller blinds worked by a 3–6 mm bead chain: screwed to the wall, on its battery or constant USB-C power, run through an Aqara hub. |
| Radiator Thermostat W600 | Heating and water | Aqara's current smart radiator head (WT-A03): M30 × 1.5 with six adapters, two AA batteries, Thread or Zigbee; a head swap with no draining. |
| Presence Sensor FP2 | Sensors and alarms | Aqara's mmWave radar presence sensor (PS-S02): Wi-Fi, no hub, constant USB-C power, on a wall for room zones or on the ceiling for fall detection. |
How is Aqara installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Aqara job from the models and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
What the job touches moves the price more than the device does. Pairing a hub, fixing sensors, clipping a Curtain Driver E1 onto a rail or fitting radiator thermostat heads is set-up work. A smart lock is locksmith work on the door. An H1 or H2 switch, a Dual Relay Module T2 or a 230 V blind motor is mains work on an existing circuit, priced for isolating, connecting and testing.
The home comes next: a multipoint door that needs adjusting before a lock goes on, a bell transformer too weak for the doorbell, a PoE cable through solid brick. Where a job needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several devices, Aqara or other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.
You buy the Aqara products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a replacement cylinder, a deeper back box, a 12 V plug-in supply or a PoE injector, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work, £55–£110 for electrical work and £60–£130 for locksmith work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
How it works
Step 1
Name the models and add photos
List the Aqara products you have, or paste the order, and photograph where each goes: the door edge and cylinder for a lock, the transformer label for a doorbell, the switch and consumer unit for a switch, and your router for a hub.
Step 2
See a fixed price, then choose a time
A vetted pro works out one fixed price for the whole list, with any accessory agreed at cost. Nothing is booked until you accept it, and you pick the day.
Step 3
Fitted, paired and tested
Each device fixed, connected and joined to your hub and apps, then tried with you: the lock opened by key and phone, the doorbell rung, the switch's automations run.

Frequently asked questions
Who can install Aqara in London?
Aqara has no UK home installation service, so it is down to whoever you book. Through JACK, a vetted local pro fits the Aqara you have bought: locksmith work for a lock, a pro who does electrical work for switches, relays and blind motors, and a smart home pro for hubs, doorbells, cameras and sensors.
Do I need an electrician to fit an Aqara light switch?
In England, replacing a light switch with an Aqara H1 or H2 is not notifiable, so the law does not require a registered electrician; it does require safe work, which Approved Document P says should follow BS 7671. JACK pros who do electrical work fit them outside bathroom zones, after checking for a neutral and a back box deep enough for the switch.
Does Aqara work with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa?
Yes, through Matter. Aqara's Thread devices join those apps once a Thread border router is in the home, and newer Aqara hubs such as the M3 pass Aqara's Zigbee devices through as a Matter bridge. Some features stay in the Aqara Home app: the U600's manual says Night Latch mode and auto-lock settings need it.
Does Aqara require a subscription?
Not for the basics: the FP2's local automations, for example, work without the cloud. Aqara's paid cloud service, HomeGuardian, comes as a trial with the G410 doorbell (one month, or three on the Select version), Aqara's doorbells take a microSD card for local recording, and its FP2 page says some newly added features may need a subscription.
Can you install Aqara I bought on Amazon or from the Aqara UK Shop?
Yes. JACK pros fit Aqara bought from Aqara's UK and EU store, the Aqara UK Shop, Amazon UK or another UK shop, and kit that came with your home. JACK does not sell devices; any accessory the job needs, such as a cylinder or a deeper back box, is agreed at cost before you book.
How much does Aqara installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your job, set by a vetted pro from the models and your photos and shown in the JACK app before you book. The door, the wiring behind the switch and the number of devices move it most, and the devices are never part of it. As a guide, hourly smart home work is typically £45–£95 per hour.
Can you fit several Aqara devices in one visit?
Yes. Put them all on one booking, say a lock, a doorbell, a hub and some sensors, and one fixed price covers the visit; other brands can go on it too. A long list often suits a full-day handyman booking.
Do you install Aqara outside London?
No. JACK pros work at London addresses only, though the Aqara guides here on UK doors, back boxes, Part P and fire doors apply across England.
Is Jack All Trades part of Aqara?
No. Jack All Trades (JACK) is an independent London service with no link to Aqara or Lumi United Technology Co., Ltd., and Aqara has not endorsed it. JACK does not claim Aqara Academy training or Aqara partnership for its pros; Aqara's model names appear here only so you can find the device you own.
