Aqara Switch, Socket and Relay Installation in London
Updated
Aqara's wall switches are European models, deeper than many British back boxes, and some need a neutral wire that British switches rarely have. From your photos, a vetted JACK pro in London works out the box, wiring and load, then fits and pairs the switch or relay.
In short
Yes: a vetted JACK pro in London who does electrical work fits Aqara's H1 and H2 wall switches, the Dimmer Switch H2 and the T1 and T2 relay modules on your existing lighting circuit, which in England is not notifiable under Part P outside a bathroom zone. Aqara's switches need about 30–35 mm inside the wall, deeper than the usual 25 mm British back box, and only some models work without a neutral at the switch. The price is fixed and shown in the JACK app before you book.
Send photos of each switch, front and side, the Aqara model, and whether any light is switched from two places. Say if an Aqara hub or other Matter controller is already in the home.

Aqara switches, sockets and relays pros install
Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.
Light Switch H2 installation
Aqara's EU-format wall switch (WS-K07 one channel, WS-K08 two) sold in the UK: runs with or without a neutral and needs 30 mm inside the wall; the Dimmer H2 needs more.
Dual Relay Module T2 installation
Aqara's two-channel Zigbee relay (DCM-K01): needs a live and a neutral, rated 10 A in total but only 250 W for LEDs, for lights, motors and volt-free contacts.
Aqara's wall switches in Britain are European models
We found no British-format Aqara light switch on sale on 1 November 2026. Aqara's UK shop and Amazon UK store sell the European range:
- Light Switch H2 EU, one-gang (WS-K07) or two-gang (WS-K08); the 'UK exclusive version' on Aqara's UK shop is the same EU switch with an extra dark grey button
- Dimmer Switch H2 EU (KD-R01), Shutter Switch H2 EU and the Display Switch V1 EU with its own screen
- Smart Wall Switch H1 EU, in No Neutral (WS-EUK01/02) and With Neutral (WS-EUK03/04) models
Each uses an 86 mm square plate, but Aqara does not publish the H1 or H2 screw spacing, so the pro checks the fixings against your box.
Aqara Light Switch H2 installationWill an Aqara switch fit in your back box?
British flush boxes are 16, 25, 35 or about 46–48 mm deep. Aqara gives these depths inside the wall:
- Smart Wall Switch H1: within 30 mm
- Light Switch H2: 30 mm, on a switch 86 x 86 x 45 mm overall
- Dimmer Switch H2: 34.6 mm, with a 40 mm minimum box depth given on Aqara's Amazon UK listing
So a 16 or 25 mm box has to change, a 35 mm box takes the H1 or H2, and the dimmer needs the next size up. A deeper box on the same circuit is not notifiable, though it can mean cutting into plaster and making good; the box, or a surface spacer, is added at cost and agreed before you book.
Aqara switches with no neutral and shallow UK back boxesNo neutral at the switch narrows the choice
Aqara's UK shop says traditional UK homes usually have no neutral wire at the light switch. How the models cope:
- H1 No Neutral: made for that wiring, with a minimum load of 3 W of LED or 16 W of fluorescent lighting
- H2 and Dimmer H2: work either way; without a neutral the H2 needs at least 5 W of LED, and Aqara gives the dimmer a minimum load of 4 W or 9 W depending on how it is set up
- H1 With Neutral, Shutter Switch H2, Display Switch V1 and Touchscreen Dial V1: neutral required
Aqara's UK shop adds that live-only devices are Zigbee end devices, while those wired to live and neutral are routers that extend the mesh. A neutral can come down from the ceiling rose in a new cable, an alteration that needs no building control notice.
Where does an Aqara relay module go?
A relay lets the Aqara app run a light or motor from behind a switch, at the light or in a ceiling:
- Dual Relay Module T2 (DCM-K01): needs live and neutral and, by Aqara's advice, a box around 60 mm deep; its 10 A is shared by both channels, with LED loads held to 1 A or 250 W
- Single Switch Module T1 No Neutral: no minimum load, up to 1250 W resistive, kept away from hot or luminous parts in a ceiling
- In a ceiling, a relay goes in an enclosure behind a hatch or removable fitting, because the wiring regulations keep connections accessible unless they sit in a maintenance-free box marked MF
- A JACK pro never fits the T2 on a DIN rail inside the consumer unit: that is a registered electrician's job
Aqara's UK shop says the T1 needs "a professional and qualified electrician". In England no registration is needed to add a relay to an existing circuit outside a bathroom zone, but it is mains work: ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.
Aqara Dual Relay Module T2 installationAqara's British socket comes with a caveat
The Wall Outlet H2 UK, new in the UK, is a twin 13 A switched socket with USB-C, sold through Aqara's Amazon UK store and UK shop:
- WP-P09E has one 20 W USB-C port and WP-P09D two, giving 30 W from one or 15 W shared; both are rated 230–250 V and 13 A and measure 146 x 86 x 38.4 mm
- Aqara's UK shop asks for a box at least 25 mm deep, with a 10 mm spacer supplied for shallower ones; per-socket energy monitoring needs Zigbee mode
- Swapping an existing socket is a replacement and not notifiable; JACK keeps sockets at least 3 m from a bath or shower tray, following the note to Approved Document P's Diagram 2
The caveat: Aqara's pages do not state conformity with BS 1363, the British Standard for 13 A plugs and sockets. So JACK has no page for it, and the pro checks the markings on the socket and its packaging before agreeing to fit one. The plug-in Power Plug H2 UK (SP-P07E) needs no wiring at all.
Is fitting an Aqara switch notifiable?
In England, electrical work has to be notified to building control only when it is a new circuit, a replacement consumer unit, or an addition or alteration in the zone around a bath or shower. So:
- A like-for-like switch swap is a replacement, which is not notifiable even in a bathroom, though JACK does not take on fixed wiring inside bathroom zones
- Lighting with no earth wire suits the H2's plastic front, which has live, neutral and switched-live terminals only; Aqara does not say whether the H1's metal frame needs earthing
- The circuit is switched off at the fuse board first, since a smart switch is not an isolator
Ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for each circuit worked on. Renting? Get your landlord's agreement first and give them a copy.

Aqara's UK product-security statements give the H1 No Neutral, H2, Dimmer H2 and T2 a stated support period ending 31 December 2026 (checked 1 November 2026); that is when Aqara's stated update commitment ends, not when a switch stops working. No UK statement was listed that day for the Wall Outlet H2 UK, the Power Plug H2 UK or the Shutter Switch H2.
How is Aqara installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Aqara job from the models and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
What the job touches moves the price more than the device does. Pairing a hub, fixing sensors, clipping a Curtain Driver E1 onto a rail or fitting radiator thermostat heads is set-up work. A smart lock is locksmith work on the door. An H1 or H2 switch, a Dual Relay Module T2 or a 230 V blind motor is mains work on an existing circuit, priced for isolating, connecting and testing.
The home comes next: a multipoint door that needs adjusting before a lock goes on, a bell transformer too weak for the doorbell, a PoE cable through solid brick. Where a job needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several devices, Aqara or other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.
You buy the Aqara products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a replacement cylinder, a deeper back box, a 12 V plug-in supply or a PoE injector, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work, £55–£110 for electrical work and £60–£130 for locksmith work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
How it works
Step 1
Name the models and add photos
List the Aqara products you have, or paste the order, and photograph where each goes: the door edge and cylinder for a lock, the transformer label for a doorbell, the switch and consumer unit for a switch, and your router for a hub.
Step 2
See a fixed price, then choose a time
A vetted pro works out one fixed price for the whole list, with any accessory agreed at cost. Nothing is booked until you accept it, and you pick the day.
Step 3
Fitted, paired and tested
Each device fixed, connected and joined to your hub and apps, then tried with you: the lock opened by key and phone, the doorbell rung, the switch's automations run.
Frequently asked questions
Does Aqara make a British-style light switch?
Not that we found on 1 November 2026: everything Aqara sells for British switch positions is from its EU range, including the H2 its UK shop labels a UK exclusive. These switches still go on a British 86 mm box if it is deep enough, usually 35 mm or more, once the fixings are checked.
Does an Aqara switch have to be fitted by a registered electrician?
No, but it does need someone competent with mains wiring: in England a switch swap or a relay on an existing circuit outside a bathroom zone is not notifiable. Aqara's UK shop recommends a professional electrician tests before the H1 goes in, and its instructions use non-British wire colours, so the pro proves each wire with a tester before connecting anything.
Can an Aqara switch work as a two-way switch?
Yes, mostly without new wiring. Aqara pairs the H1 with a stick-on Wireless Remote Switch H1 at the second position, the T1 module works with existing two-way switches, and the H2's buttons can be decoupled from the light to run scenes.
How much does it cost to have Aqara switches fitted in London?
Your switches and relays get one fixed price, based on the photos you send, which the JACK app shows before you book. Deeper boxes, spacers and enclosures are added at cost and agreed first, and JACK does not sell the Aqara devices. Hourly hire for electrical work is typically £55–£110 per hour, as a guide.
