Aqara Presence Sensor, Smoke Alarm and Sensor Installation in London
Updated
With Aqara sensors the work is in the placing: the right height and angle for a radar presence sensor, a tidy power route for the ones that run on USB-C, and every device on the right hub. A vetted JACK pro in London puts each one up, pairs it and checks it triggers before leaving.
In short
Yes: a vetted JACK pro in London fixes Aqara's presence sensors, door, window, motion and vibration sensors and the Aqara Smoke Detector in place and pairs them to your Aqara hub or Matter app. Most run on batteries, but the FP2 and FP400 presence sensors need constant USB-C power, so the pro plans a neat cable route to a socket. JACK pros fit Aqara's battery smoke detector for phone alerts alongside any mains smoke alarms, never in place of them.
Say which rooms you want covered and what should happen, such as lights coming on when someone walks in, and send a photo of each room with the nearest socket in view. List the Aqara sensors you have and the hub or Matter controller they will use.

Aqara sensors and alarms pros install
Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.
Which Aqara presence sensor suits which room?
All four use radar in the 60 GHz band rather than a camera, but they mount and power differently:
- Presence Sensor FP2: runs over Wi-Fi without a hub, needs USB-C power all the time, and goes wall-mounted for zones and multi-person tracking or ceiling-mounted for fall detection
- Presence Multi-Sensor FP300: radar plus two infrared sensors, light, temperature and humidity, on two CR2450 coin cells that Aqara puts at up to 3 years on Zigbee or 2 on Thread; wall, ceiling, corner or magnetic mount, angled at 45° in a corner
- Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400: USB-C at 5 V 1 A, with only a cable in the box; side, corner or ceiling mounting, at 3–4 m on a ceiling; up to 10 people in 8 zones, with full features on an Aqara hub such as the M3, M100 or M200
- Presence Sensor FP1E: Zigbee 3.0, powered over USB, for an Aqara hub
How is a presence sensor powered high on a wall or ceiling?
In Aqara's words the FP2 "should be constantly powered", and the FP400 also runs from USB-C. The power route is most of the job:
- A USB adapter in an existing socket, with the cable clipped neatly or run in trunking: no electrical installation work
- An existing socket swapped for one with USB outlets: a replacement, not notifiable
- A new socket or USB point spurred from an existing circuit, closer to the sensor: not notifiable outside a bathroom zone, and you should ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
- Screws and new cable runs in a rented home need your landlord's agreement first
The FP2 is IPX5, and Aqara allows it in a bathroom only with a waterproof adapter and socket. JACK adds no fixed wiring inside bathroom zones, so a bathroom sensor is planned around power that is already outside them.
Who should know about a presence sensor in the home?
UK GDPR does not cover purely personal or household activity, so a sensor that only serves your own household is a household matter. It changes when the sensor watches other people:
- Let lodgers, cleaners, carers and anyone else living or working there know the sensors exist
- In a shared house, keep sensors out of communal rooms and out of bathrooms other people use
- Landlords, holiday-let hosts and families monitoring a relative may fall outside the household exemption
- Aqara's UK shop advertises sleep monitoring on the FP2, with heart and breathing rates; that is health information, so the pro enables it just for the person who requested it
Door, window and motion sensors need the right hub more than tools
Most are small battery devices. What matters is the radio each one uses:
- Thread sensors, such as the Door and Window Sensor P2 (DW-S02E) and the Motion and Light Sensor P2 (ML-S03E), need a Thread border router, such as the Aqara Hub M3
- Zigbee models, including the Door and Window Sensor T1, the Vibration Sensor T1 and the Motion Sensor P1, need an Aqara hub; Aqara says Zigbee2MQTT and similar third-party USB dongles are not officially supported
- The Multi-State Sensor P100 (VB-S03E), which senses a door opening and vibration, works on Thread or Zigbee
- The Wireless Remote Switch H1 and Wireless Mini Switch T1 stick to the wall, the no-wiring way to add a second switch position
On a flat's front door that opens onto a shared corridor, the pro does not drill the door or its frame for a sensor: gov.uk's fire door guidance says changes to those doors should have the Responsible Person's agreement. Water leak sensors are covered with Aqara's heating and water devices.
Aqara hub setup, Matter and Home AssistantAqara's smoke detector adds phone alerts, not a replacement alarm
The Aqara Smoke Detector (SD-S01E, SD-S01D) is a battery alarm that also tells your phone when it sounds:
- Aqara's UK shop lists EN 14604:2005/AC:2008 as its standard, with a CR17450 battery lasting up to ten years, and Aqara gives the alarm as up to 85 dB
- App alerts need an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub, and Device Alarm Grouping in the Aqara Home app lets several detectors sound together
- The pro never removes or disconnects existing mains smoke alarms to make room for one
- Landlords in England must have a smoke alarm on each storey with living accommodation and a carbon monoxide alarm in any room used as living accommodation that has a fixed combustion appliance other than a gas cooker; the regulations do not fix the type, and gov.uk favours sealed-for-life batteries where battery alarms are chosen
- Approved Document B, for new homes and some building work, asks for mains-operated smoke alarms and considers a Grade D2 Category LD3 system under BS 5839-6 adequate
Meeting those duties stays with the owner or landlord; the pro fits and pairs the detector you have chosen and tests that it sounds.
Aqara sensors and alarms compared
Taken from Aqara's own pages, its UK shop and its Amazon UK listings on 1 November 2026.

Checked on 1 November 2026, Aqara's UK statements put the Smoke Detector's support period at 31 December 2026 and the FP2's at a minimum of two years from launch; the FP300 and FP400 had none listed.
How is Aqara installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Aqara job from the models and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
What the job touches moves the price more than the device does. Pairing a hub, fixing sensors, clipping a Curtain Driver E1 onto a rail or fitting radiator thermostat heads is set-up work. A smart lock is locksmith work on the door. An H1 or H2 switch, a Dual Relay Module T2 or a 230 V blind motor is mains work on an existing circuit, priced for isolating, connecting and testing.
The home comes next: a multipoint door that needs adjusting before a lock goes on, a bell transformer too weak for the doorbell, a PoE cable through solid brick. Where a job needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several devices, Aqara or other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.
You buy the Aqara products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a replacement cylinder, a deeper back box, a 12 V plug-in supply or a PoE injector, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work, £55–£110 for electrical work and £60–£130 for locksmith work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
How it works
Step 1
Name the models and add photos
List the Aqara products you have, or paste the order, and photograph where each goes: the door edge and cylinder for a lock, the transformer label for a doorbell, the switch and consumer unit for a switch, and your router for a hub.
Step 2
See a fixed price, then choose a time
A vetted pro works out one fixed price for the whole list, with any accessory agreed at cost. Nothing is booked until you accept it, and you pick the day.
Step 3
Fitted, paired and tested
Each device fixed, connected and joined to your hub and apps, then tried with you: the lock opened by key and phone, the doorbell rung, the switch's automations run.
Frequently asked questions
Do Aqara sensors need a hub?
Most do. Zigbee sensors need an Aqara hub, not just any Zigbee hub, and Thread sensors such as the P2 range need a Thread border router. The FP2 is the exception, running on Wi-Fi with no hub, and the pro checks what you already have before you buy more.
Can an Aqara smoke detector replace my mains smoke alarms?
Not through JACK. It is a battery alarm that adds phone alerts through an Aqara hub, so JACK pros fit it alongside mains alarms, never instead of them, and your existing alarms stay connected.
Does the Aqara Smoke Detector meet UK smoke alarm standards?
Aqara's Amazon UK listing says it has UKCA certification and meets BS EN 14604:2005 + AC:2008, the European standard for smoke alarms, and Aqara's UK shop lists the same standard. JACK does not test or certify alarms; it fits the one you choose.
Can I put presence sensors in a rented flat?
Yes, for your own household, with your landlord's agreement for screws or new wiring. If a lodger, flatmate or carer is in the home too, let them know the sensors are there and leave shared rooms out.
What does Aqara sensor installation cost in London?
You get one fixed price for the sensors on your list, set from your photos and shown in the app before booking. Hub setup can go on the same visit, and USB adapters, trunking or a new socket are added at cost and agreed first. Paying by the hour instead? Smart home hire is typically £45–£95 per hour, as a guide.
