Wardrobe Assembly in London
Wardrobe assembly in London through Jack All Trades (JACK) puts a vetted local pro in your bedroom to build the wardrobe you ordered, hinged or sliding, two doors or four, at a time you pick. You see a fixed price before you book, or you can hire by the hour instead, and fixing the wardrobe to the wall to stop it tipping is part of the job. Send the product link, a photo of the room and the ceiling height, then follow the build through photos, updates and a chat with your pro in the app.
A wardrobe only works if it stands square: out by a few millimetres and the doors leave gaps or drift open. Send the product link and your ceiling height, see the price before you book, and pick the time.

How wardrobe assembly is priced
A vetted pro works out the price from your wardrobe's product details and a photo of the room, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
Width and door count set the starting point, and the build gets longer with sliding doors, mirror panels, internal drawers or a solid wood carcass. The room matters too: a low ceiling, coving, a sloped loft wall or a fourth-floor flat with no lift can all add to the job. Share the product link or an order screenshot, the ceiling height and a note about the stairs, and the price covers the job as it really is.
If the old wardrobe has to come apart before the new one can go in, add that when you book and it is priced in. A bed, a chest of drawers or bedside tables can go on the same booking too, whether they came from IKEA or other shops, under one price for the visit.
Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, furniture assembly is typically £35–£75 per hour. For a long list, such as fitting out a whole flat, a full-day handyman booking often suits: a flat £350–£400 day rate for up to 8 hours on site.
How it works
Step 1
Show the wardrobe and the room
Paste the product link or a screenshot of the order (a link is enough if you have not bought it yet), add a photo of where it will stand and the floor-to-ceiling height, and say if there are stairs or an old wardrobe to take apart first.
Step 2
Check the price, then choose a slot
A vetted pro prices the build from what you sent. Book when you are happy with it and pick a slot after the delivery date; evening and weekend slots are there when pros have them.
Step 3
Built, adjusted and fixed to the wall
Parts are checked, the frame is built square, the doors are hung and adjusted, and the wardrobe is fixed to the wall against tipping. Packaging is flattened and stacked for recycling, and photos and updates come through the JACK app, where you can chat with your pro.
What's included when a pro builds your wardrobe
One fixed price covers the build, from sealed boxes to a wardrobe ready for your clothes:
- Boxes opened and every panel and fitting checked against the instructions before building, with anything missing or damaged posted in the app
- The frame measured corner to corner so it is square before the back panel goes on, because the back panel is what holds it that way
- The wardrobe levelled on uneven floors, so the doors do not swing open or drift along their track by themselves
- Hinged doors hung and adjusted for even gaps and a flush close, or sliding doors set on their tracks so they run straight
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and any other fittings that come in the kit
- Fixed to the wall against tipping, with fixings chosen for the wall it stands against
- If you ask when booking, your old wardrobe taken apart in the room and left with you to dispose of
- Packaging flattened and stacked for recycling
Wardrobe arrived today?
Boxes in the hall and clothes piled on a chair? If a vetted pro near you is free today, the wardrobe can be built today, so send the details in the app and ask. If nobody is free, book the next slot that suits, still at a price fixed before you book.
Same-day flat-pack assembly in LondonWardrobes pros build: flat-pack, sliding and solid wood
Pros on JACK build wardrobes from IKEA, other furniture shops and online stores. These are the requests that come up in London:
- Two-, three- and four-door hinged wardrobes, including ones with a row of drawers along the bottom
- Sliding door wardrobes, with plain, glass or mirror panels
- IKEA wardrobes from ranges other than PAX, such as HAUGA, KLEPPSTAD, SONGESAND and BRIMNES
- Wardrobes bought online or from furniture shops, built to the maker's instructions
- Solid wood wardrobes, which are heavy, and rattan or cane-fronted ones, whose woven panels need careful handling
- Corner wardrobes, children's wardrobes, and combination units with shelves down one side
- Fabric wardrobes and freestanding clothes rails for a spare room or a rental
- The rest of the bedroom on the same booking: chest of drawers, bedside tables, a dressing table or the bed
JACK is independent and not tied to any furniture brand or retailer. Wardrobes and other pieces from different shops can go on one booking, priced together before you book.
Building an IKEA PAX? PAX wardrobe assembly in LondonSliding door wardrobe assembly: tracks, rollers and mirror doors
Sliding doors are where many wardrobe builds go wrong. They only run true if the frame behind them is square and level, so the work starts there:
- The carcass checked square before the back panel is fixed. A few millimetres out and the doors leave a wedge-shaped gap at one end or creep open on their own
- Top and bottom tracks fitted straight and parallel, so the doors run without catching or jumping off
- Rollers adjusted until each door hangs evenly and closes flush against the side panel
- Stoppers, buffers and soft-close dampers fitted wherever the kit includes them
- Mirror and glass doors unpacked carefully and checked for chips or cracks before they are fitted. Damage found in the box is photographed and flagged in the app, so you can claim it from the seller
- Sliding doors need no room to swing open, which is why they suit narrow bedrooms. Hinged doors need clear floor in front of the wardrobe about as deep as each door is wide
Low ceilings, coving, loft rooms and stairs
A wardrobe is usually built lying on its back and then raised upright, and that swing needs more height than the wardrobe itself. Check the room before you order:
- Raising a wardrobe needs headroom for its diagonal, not just its height. One 200cm tall and 60cm deep needs close to 210cm clear, plus a little for feet or castors
- Measure at the lowest point the top of the wardrobe will pass: under the coving, a beam or a ceiling light, not the middle of the ceiling
- If the room is too low, some wardrobes can be built standing up where they will stay; whether yours can depends on its design, so send its height and depth with a photo and ask in the app before ordering
- In a loft room, measure the height where the wardrobe will actually stand, and check the doors can open fully under the slope
- Skirting boards and coving can leave a gap behind the wardrobe. The anti-tip fixing is set so it still holds the wardrobe across that gap
- Stairs and no lift? Wardrobe boxes are long and heavy. If the delivery company offers room-of-choice delivery, use it, and mention the stairs in the app either way. The wardrobe is built in the room where it will stand, because a finished one rarely fits round a landing
- A large or solid wood wardrobe is heavy to raise upright. Mention it when you book so the job can be planned, and if it needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature
Half-built, second-hand or no instructions
Not every wardrobe job starts with sealed boxes. Pros also take on builds that have stalled:
- A wardrobe someone else started and could not finish, or one whose doors never lined up. Photos of where it is up to help the pro price it, and part of it may need taking apart to put right
- Doors that will not line up often trace back to a frame that went out of square before the back panel was fixed, so that is the first thing the pro checks
- Lost the instructions? Many makers publish them online under the product code, which is often printed on the box or on a label inside a panel. Search for that first
- No instructions at all: a pro can often work the build out from the parts, but say so when booking so the price allows for it
- Second-hand wardrobe that arrived in pieces? Check the bag of screws, cam locks and dowels came with it, because a missing fitting is the usual hold-up
Old wardrobe out, new one in
When the new wardrobe is going where the old one stands, the pro can take the old one apart first, in the same room and on the same visit. Add it when you book so the price includes it. What to know:
- Empty the old wardrobe before the visit, including the top and anything stored underneath
- The old wardrobe is unfixed from the wall, taken apart and its panels stacked in the room for you
- Older wardrobes that were glued or nailed together may come apart in larger sections rather than flat panels
- JACK does not take away old wardrobes, panels or packaging. Your council may run a bulky waste collection, and some shops offer to collect an old item when they deliver a new one
A whole bedroom, or a whole flat
A wardrobe rarely arrives on its own. A bed, chest of drawers, bedside tables and a mirror can all go on the same booking, from IKEA and other shops together, with one price for the visit. When the list runs long, a full-day handyman booking often suits: a flat £350–£400 for one vetted pro on site for up to 8 hours, with any time left over going on other jobs around the home.

What should I send to get a price?
Send the product link or the order screenshot, a photo of the room and the floor-to-ceiling height. A link is enough even if you have not ordered yet.
Where do you cover?
Across London, with evening and weekend slots when pros have them.
How much does wardrobe assembly cost in London?
You get a fixed price for your particular wardrobe, set by a vetted pro from the product link and a photo of the room, shown in the app before you book and with anti-tip wall fixing included. Width, door type, mirror panels, internal drawers and the room itself are what move the price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for furniture assembly is typically £35–£75 per hour as a guide.
How long does it take to assemble a wardrobe?
It depends mostly on the doors and what goes inside. A plain two-door wardrobe is one of the shorter flat-pack jobs, while a wide sliding door wardrobe with mirror panels and internal drawers, or one that has to be built standing up under a low ceiling, is a much longer build. On a fixed price that time is already allowed for; on hourly hire, share the product link in the app and ask your pro how long to plan for.
What is included in wardrobe assembly, and what isn't?
Included: a parts check, the frame built square, doors hung and adjusted, rails, shelves and drawers fitted, anti-tip wall fixing, and the packaging flattened and stacked for recycling. Taking an old wardrobe apart in the room can be added when you book. Not included: delivering or collecting the wardrobe, carrying furniture between addresses, taking away the old wardrobe or packaging, and wiring wardrobe lights into the mains.
Can a pro assemble a sliding door wardrobe?
Yes. The pro builds the carcass square, fits the top and bottom tracks, hangs the doors and adjusts the rollers until each door runs straight and closes flush. Mirror and glass doors are checked for damage before fitting, and anything broken in the box is flagged in the app for you to claim from the seller.
Will a tall wardrobe fit under my ceiling?
It will if there is room to raise it upright, which takes more height than the wardrobe itself because it swings through its diagonal. As a rough guide, a wardrobe 200cm tall and 60cm deep needs close to 210cm clear at the lowest point it passes, such as under coving or a light. If your room is tighter than that, send the ceiling height and the wardrobe's dimensions in the app before ordering; some designs can be built standing up in place and some cannot.
Is the wardrobe fixed to the wall?
Yes, anti-tip fixing is part of the job and covered by the fixed price, because a tall wardrobe with its doors open can topple forward. Before drilling, the pro checks the wall the wardrobe stands against and uses fixings that suit it, whether that is brick, block or plasterboard. If the wall cannot safely take a fixing at that spot, the pro tells you and talks through the options.
Can you finish a wardrobe someone else started, or one with no instructions?
Usually, yes. Send photos of where the build is up to, or of the parts if there are no instructions, so the pro can price it properly. Some of a half-built wardrobe may need taking apart to put right, and a build without instructions takes longer, so mention both when you book.
What happens if parts are missing or a door is damaged?
The pro checks the parts before starting, builds as much of the wardrobe as the parts allow, and lists what is missing or damaged in the app so you can claim it from the seller. When the replacements arrive, arrange the finishing visit with your pro in the same app thread.
Is Jack All Trades part of IKEA?
No. Jack All Trades (JACK) is an independent London service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by IKEA or any other furniture brand. Product names such as HAUGA, KLEPPSTAD, SONGESAND, BRIMNES and PAX are used only to describe the wardrobes pros build.
