Wall Bed Installation in London
For wall bed installation in London, a vetted local pro who holds current public liability insurance builds your Murphy bed, fixes it to the wall with fixings that suit it and tests the mechanism, at a fixed price shown before you book, on a day and time you choose. Whether the bed is vertical or horizontal, plain or paired with a sofa, desk or side cabinets, the pro checks the wall before drilling anything, and you follow the job with photos and updates in the Jack All Trades (JACK) app.
A wall bed is a cabinet, a bed and a lift mechanism that the wall has to hold every time the bed comes down. The pro checks the wall before drilling, fixes it to suit, and tests the bed before handover.

How pricing works
Your wall bed is priced by a pro from the model and photos of the wall, and the JACK app shows you one fixed price before you book.
Three things move the price of wall bed fitting most. First, the bed itself: a single vertical bed is a smaller build than a double that folds down over a sofa or a desk. Second, the extras: side cabinets, shelving and bridging units are each a build of their own. Third, the wall: solid brick and plasterboard on studs call for different fixings and different checks. All of it is in the figure you see before booking.
Taking over a bed that someone else part-built? Send photos of how far it got and what is still in the boxes, so the price covers checking that work as well as finishing it.
Hourly hire is also available if you would rather pay for time than for the job; for furniture assembly it is typically £35–£75 per hour, as a guide.
How it works
Step 1
Share the model and the wall
Paste the product link or the model name, and add photos of the wall where the bed will stand, including the skirting board and any sockets, switches or radiators close by. Not ordered yet? Share the link anyway, so the fitting can be priced before you buy.
Step 2
See a fixed price, choose a slot
The fixed price is in the app before you book. Choose a time after the delivery has arrived; evenings and weekends work too, when pros have them.
Step 3
Built, fixed and tested
The pro starts with a parts check, then builds the cabinet, fixes it to the wall, sets up the mechanism and lowers and raises the bed before handing over. Updates and photos come through the app during the visit, and the app chat is there if plans change.
What's included in a wall bed install
Everything the bed needs to be up, fixed to the wall and working is in the fixed price:
- A parts check before the build, with any missing part or manual flagged in the app
- The wall checked before any drilling: what it is made of and, on a stud wall, where the studs are
- The cabinet built square and level, so the bed folds without catching or binding
- The cabinet fixed to the wall as the instructions require, with fixings chosen for that wall
- Bed frame, base and lift mechanism fitted, with the mechanism set up as the manufacturer's instructions describe
- Any sofa, desk, shelves or side cabinets that come with your model built on the same visit
- The bed lowered and raised several times before handover, to check it moves smoothly, stays shut when closed and any legs or catches work
- Cardboard and wrapping flattened and stacked for recycling
Plasterboard, stud and solid walls
Each time a wall bed is pulled down or pushed back up, the wall behind it takes the strain. That is why the wall decides how the bed is fixed, and why the pro checks it before drilling:
- Brick, block and concrete: masonry fixings chosen for the material and the weight of the bed
- Plasterboard on timber or metal studs: the pro checks what is behind the board and where the studs run, then picks fixings that suit
- Dry-lined walls, where plasterboard is stuck over brick: checked the same way, since what matters is what lies behind the board
- If a wall cannot safely take the bed, the pro tells you before fixing anything, so you can consider another wall or another layout
Renting? Ask your landlord before you book. A wall bed means drilling into the wall, and your tenancy may need written permission for that.
Vertical or horizontal: planning the space
The two layouts suit different rooms, so measure before you order. A vertical bed folds down from the head end and reaches further into the room; a horizontal bed folds down along its long side, using more wall and less floor.
- A vertical bed needs the ceiling height for a cabinet that stands roughly as tall as the bed is long
- A horizontal bed suits lower ceilings and loft rooms, but needs a longer stretch of clear wall
- Measure the floor in front of the wall with the bed down: the open bed plus space to walk past it, clear of doors, radiators and other furniture
- In a studio, check that the open bed still leaves a route to the door, the kitchen and the bathroom
- Skirting boards stop a cabinet sitting flat to the wall, so include a photo of the skirting along that wall and agree in the app how it will be dealt with
- A socket or light switch where the cabinet will stand may need moving first; that is electrical work and not part of a wall bed install
Wall bed assembly with a sofa, desk or side cabinets
Plenty of wall beds come as a set: a sofa the bed folds down over, a desk that stays put while the bed comes down, or cabinets and shelves on either side. Each piece is a build of its own, so name the full set in the app and the fixed price covers all of it.
- Sofa wall beds: the sofa built and placed where the instructions put it, so the bed clears it on the way down
- Desk wall beds: the desk fitted and checked with the bed both up and down
- Side cabinets, wardrobes and bridging shelves built and lined up with the bed cabinet
- Built-in lights or USB points: mention them in the app, because any mains wiring is not part of the install
Side units or other furniture bought from a different shop? They can be added to the same booking, flat-pack from other shops included.
Wall bed half-built, or parts missing?
Sometimes a wall bed gets stuck partway: another assembler started and never finished, a box arrived short, or the manual went missing. A pro can take it from where it stopped, once the work already done has been checked.
- Send photos of the part-built bed, any boxes still sealed and the parts left over, so the price reflects what is actually left to do
- Earlier work is checked before the pro builds on it, and you hear in the app if any of it needs taking apart
- Missing parts are flagged in the app and everything that can be built is built; once replacements arrive, you arrange the finishing visit in the same app thread
- No manual? Send the model name and photos of the labels on the boxes, so the pro knows exactly which bed it is before the visit
Problem with a wall bed that is already up? For a repair, describe it in the app with photos.
A wall bed and the rest of the room
When the wall bed is one job among several, such as a spare room turning into an office with a desk, shelves and a wardrobe, the rest can go on the same booking. For a long list, a full-day handyman booking often suits: a flat £350–£400 day rate covers up to 8 hours of one pro's time on site. Mention the wall bed when you book, because wall bed installs are only booked with pros who hold current public liability insurance.

What should I send to get a price?
The product link or model name and photos of the wall, including the skirting and any sockets or radiators nearby.
Where do you cover?
Across London, with evening and weekend slots when pros have them.
How much does wall bed installation cost in London?
There is no single price: a pro prices your model and your wall, and the app shows one fixed price, wall fixing included, before you book. Murphy bed installation is priced the same way, and the size of the bed, any sofa, desk or side units, and the type of wall make the difference. Booking by the hour is also possible, at typically £35–£75 per hour for furniture assembly, as a guide.
How long does it take to install a wall bed?
It takes longer than an ordinary bed frame, because it is a cabinet, a bed and a lift mechanism, plus fixing to the wall. A single vertical bed is a shorter job than a double with a sofa and side cabinets. Because the pro sees the model before pricing, the fixed price you see before booking already allows for the longer build.
What if the wall bed is too heavy for one person to lift?
Wall bed cabinets are tall and heavy, and a double with a sofa or side units has a lot to move into place. If the job needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Mention any heavy or awkward pieces when you book, so it can be planned.
Can a wall bed be fitted to a plasterboard or stud wall?
Sometimes: it depends on what is behind the board. The pro checks the wall before drilling and uses fixings that suit it, or tells you if the wall cannot safely take the bed. Send photos of the wall in the app, and say whether it is a solid wall or a partition if you know.
Are the pros who install wall beds insured?
Yes. Wall bed installs are only booked with pros who hold current public liability insurance, and like every pro on JACK, they are vetted.
What is included in a wall bed install, and what is not?
Included: a parts check, the cabinet built and fixed to the wall with suitable fixings, the bed and mechanism set up as the instructions describe, any sofa, desk or side units in your set, a test run before handover, and the boxes flattened and stacked for recycling. Not included: supplying or delivering the bed (you buy it, the pro installs it), taking away packaging or an old bed, and any mains wiring for built-in lights or sockets.
Can you finish a wall bed that someone else started?
Yes, a pro can take it on: send photos of how far it got and what is left in the boxes, and the job is priced from there. The earlier work is checked before anything is built on it, and if part of it needs redoing, or a part is missing, you are told in the app.
Can my wall bed be installed the same day it is delivered?
It can be, if a pro near you is free that day: ask in the app whether anyone can come. Because a wall bed is usually planned around a delivery date, picking a slot just after the boxes arrive is often simpler, and if the delivery date slips, message your pro in the app.
Can the pro take away my old bed or the packaging?
No. JACK does not offer removal, disposal or waste collection, so the old bed and the packaging stay with you. The pro can take your old bed apart so it is ready for you to dispose of, and the new bed's packaging is flattened and stacked for recycling.
What happens if parts or the manual are missing?
The build goes as far as the parts allow. Everything is counted at the start, whatever can be built is built, and the missing pieces are listed in the app so you can chase the seller; once they arrive, you arrange the finishing visit with your pro in the same app thread. If the manual is missing, send the model name and photos of the box labels before the visit.
