Aqara Video Doorbell and Camera Installation in London

Updated

Aqara's doorbells are particular about power: the G410 and G4 want at least 12 V AC when wired, more than many British bell transformers give, and each comes with its own indoor chime. A vetted JACK pro in London picks the power route from your photos, fits the doorbell or camera, and sets its privacy options with you.

In short

Yes: a vetted JACK pro in London fits Aqara's Doorbell Camera Hub G410, Doorbell Camera G400 and older Video Doorbell G4, and cameras such as the Camera Hub G5 Pro. The G410 and G4 run on batteries or at least 12 V AC, so where the bell transformer gives only 8 V, as many British ones do, the pro uses batteries, a 12 V plug-in supply or a new transformer, while the G400 needs a suitable transformer or PoE. The JACK app shows the fixed price before anything is booked.

Send the model, a photo of the doorway or camera spot and, for a wired doorbell, the bell transformer's label and the chime. Say whether the door opens onto a shared corridor.

Aqara doorbells and cameras pros install

Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.

How is each Aqara doorbell powered?

Aqara's three doorbells sold in the UK take power in different ways:

  • Doorbell Camera Hub G410 (CH-C09): six AA batteries, up to 5 months, or a wired 12–24 V AC or DC supply; continuous recording and RTSP streaming work only when it is wired
  • Doorbell Camera G400 (DB-C03): wired only, at 8–24 V AC or DC, or Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af); Aqara recommends 12 V at 12 VA or more, 16 V at 16 VA, 18 V at 18 VA or 24 V at 12 VA, and marks 8–10 V 'not recommended'
  • Video Doorbell G4: a six-AA pack, up to 4 months, or wired at 12–24 V AC or 8–24 V DC; it joins 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, and Aqara suggests a porch or shaded spot
  • Many British bell transformers give only 8 V, below the G410's and G4's AC minimum, so the routes are batteries, the third-party 12 V DC plug-in supply the Aqara UK Shop sells for both, or a new transformer on a fused spur

A transformer on its own new way in the consumer unit is a new circuit, which needs a registered electrician, and JACK does not book it. For a fused spur on an existing circuit, ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.

Will an Aqara doorbell work with your bell transformer and chime?

What happens to your old chime?

Aqara pairs each doorbell with a chime of its own:

  • The G400's page says it does not work with your existing traditional chime, and a plug-in chime comes in the box
  • The G410's indoor chime runs from USB-C at 5 V, and Aqara's spec sheet lists it as the chime and hub in one
  • The G4's chime-repeater, also on USB-C, rings at up to 95 dB and extends the doorbell's connection
  • To keep an old bell ringing, Aqara's forum staff describe adding a Dual Relay Module T2, which means mains work at the relay; most installs use Aqara's chime instead

Which Aqara cameras do JACK pros fit?

They split by where they go and how they are powered:

  • Camera Hub G5 Pro, outdoors, in PoE (CH-C03) or Wi-Fi (CH-C07) versions: 2688 × 1520 video, USB-C at 5 V 2 A or PoE at 48 V, rated −30 to +50 °C, and a Zigbee and Thread hub too
  • For the PoE version, Aqara's Amazon UK listing says a PoE switch is required and sold separately, so the pro runs one data cable from it to the camera, with no mains work at the wall
  • Camera G100, indoors or out: it needs a 5 V 1 A adapter that is not in the box and joins 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, so outdoors the job is a sealed cable route to an indoor socket
  • Indoor cameras: the pan-tilt Camera Hub G3 with its built-in infrared controller, the Camera Hub G350, which Aqara bills as the first Matter-certified camera, and the Camera E1

Where can it go, and what does the law expect?

Aqara doorbells and cameras follow the same rules as any home camera:

  • GOV.UK's domestic CCTV guidance says data protection law applies once a camera captures people beyond your property, so the pro angles it at your own door and path and sets privacy masking on the G410
  • Face recognition on the G4 and G410 is best kept to your own household, and audio left off unless you need it
  • On a flat's entrance fire door nothing is drilled through the leaf or frame; a battery G410 on the wall beside the door, with the managing agent's agreement, is the usual route
  • On a listed building, works that affect its character need listed building consent, so check with the council before a camera is fixed to the old fabric

How is Aqara installation priced in London?

A vetted pro prices your Aqara job from the models and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.

What the job touches moves the price more than the device does. Pairing a hub, fixing sensors, clipping a Curtain Driver E1 onto a rail or fitting radiator thermostat heads is set-up work. A smart lock is locksmith work on the door. An H1 or H2 switch, a Dual Relay Module T2 or a 230 V blind motor is mains work on an existing circuit, priced for isolating, connecting and testing.

The home comes next: a multipoint door that needs adjusting before a lock goes on, a bell transformer too weak for the doorbell, a PoE cable through solid brick. Where a job needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several devices, Aqara or other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.

You buy the Aqara products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a replacement cylinder, a deeper back box, a 12 V plug-in supply or a PoE injector, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work, £55–£110 for electrical work and £60–£130 for locksmith work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.

How it works

Step 1

Name the models and add photos

List the Aqara products you have, or paste the order, and photograph where each goes: the door edge and cylinder for a lock, the transformer label for a doorbell, the switch and consumer unit for a switch, and your router for a hub.

Step 2

See a fixed price, then choose a time

A vetted pro works out one fixed price for the whole list, with any accessory agreed at cost. Nothing is booked until you accept it, and you pick the day.

Step 3

Fitted, paired and tested

Each device fixed, connected and joined to your hub and apps, then tried with you: the lock opened by key and phone, the doorbell rung, the switch's automations run.

Frequently asked questions

Will an Aqara doorbell work with my existing doorbell wiring?

Sometimes. The G410 and G4 need at least 12 V AC, and the G400 wants a transformer from Aqara's recommended list, so a photo of your transformer label settles it. Where it falls short, batteries, a plug-in supply or a new transformer on a fused spur are the routes.

Does the Aqara doorbell need a subscription?

No. The G410 and G400 record to a microSD card you add, and when wired they can also stream to your own recorder over RTSP. Aqara's HomeGuardian cloud plan is optional, and the G410 comes with a trial of it.

What is the difference between the Aqara G4 and G410?

The G410 is the newer model: dual-band Wi-Fi, mmWave radar for motion, and a built-in Zigbee hub and Matter controller. The G4 joins 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only and is end of life on Aqara's UK security page. Both run on six AA batteries or a wired supply of at least 12 V AC.

How much does Aqara doorbell or camera installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your device, worked out from your photos and shown in the JACK app before you book; the power route moves it most. Hired by the hour instead, smart home work typically runs at £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
