Aqara Curtain and Blind Motor Installation in London

Updated

Aqara's curtain and blind drivers fit onto what is already at the window, so whether yours will work comes down to the track, the pole or the blind's chain. A vetted JACK pro in London looks at them in your photos first, then fits the driver, sets where it stops and pairs it to your hub.

In short

Yes: a vetted JACK pro in London fits Aqara's Curtain Driver E1 on a compatible curtain track or pole and the Roller Shade Driver E1 on a beaded-chain roller blind; both run on a battery charged over USB-C, so no electrical work is needed. Aqara's 230 V tubular motors for roller blinds, the Roller Shade Controller T1S and the Smart Roller Shade Controller, run from a socket or a fused spur, and wiring in a fused spur is mains work. Your windows get a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.

Send a photo of each window showing the track or pole and how the curtains hang, or the blind's chain close up, with the width and the Aqara model. Say where the nearest socket is if a driver should stay on constant power.

Aqara curtains and blinds pros install

Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.

Will the Curtain Driver E1 fit your track or pole?

It clips on without tools, but only to the hardware Aqara designed it for:

  • Track version: an I-rail 10 mm or more wide at its base, or a U-rail whose slot is no wider than 8 mm; U-rail gliders without wheels are not supported
  • Rod version: a pole of 25 to 32 mm diameter, finished with tight-fitting decorative caps; extendable rods are out
  • Curtains up to 12 kg, by Aqara's rating
  • A 6000 mAh battery that Aqara puts at up to a year, recharged over USB-C, or constant USB-C power where a socket is near

If yours fails the check, a compatible track or pole can go up first as a curtain pole and track fitting job, with the hardware cost agreed with you before booking.

Aqara Curtain Driver E1 installation

The Roller Shade Driver E1 suits beaded-chain blinds only

It works the blind by pulling its existing chain, so the blind decides whether it fits:

  • Aqara supports only roller blinds with a beaded chain of plastic or metal beads 3–6 mm across
  • The driver screws to the wall beside the blind, with the chain running through it
  • Aqara's two-month battery estimate assumes one daily run of a 1.8 by 1.8 m blind; it can also stay on USB-C power at 5 V, 1 A
  • Aqara says it needs an Aqara Zigbee hub

The British Blind and Shutter Association tells professional installers to fit blinds that meet the child-safety requirements of BS EN 13120. Aqara does not describe the driver as a safety device, so the pro fits it with the chain taut through it and no loose loop, and if you take it down to charge, the chain goes back just as tight.

Aqara's 230 V roller blind motors run on mains power

Aqara's UK shop also sells two tubular motors that sit inside a roller blind's tube. Aqara's UK compliance page lists both as end of life, yet the shop still sells them, so this is mainly for people who already have one:

  • Roller Shade Controller T1S (CD-M03D): 100–240 V and 20 W, for a 38 mm tube, with a 1.2 m power cable and a control box; for blinds wider than 600 mm and up to 6 kg, with the tube and fabric bought separately
  • Smart Roller Shade Controller (SRSC-M01): 220–230 V and 121 W, a 35 mm tube motor for blinds up to 30 kg, and Aqara notes that additional fittings are required
  • Both need an Aqara Zigbee hub
  • Plugged into an existing socket, either involves no electrical installation work; wired in from a fused connection unit spurred off an existing circuit, it becomes non-notifiable mains work, and you should ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate

Running a new circuit from the consumer unit needs a registered electrician, and JACK does not book that alongside a blind. Aqara's pages do not say whether the T1S comes with a plug or bare wires, so the pro checks the box before planning the power.

Mains curtain track motors are not part of Aqara's UK range

Aqara's mains curtain track motors, such as the C3 and C100, were not on its UK shop or UK store when checked on 1 November 2026. If your home already has a mains blind or shutter motor from another maker, Aqara offers two ways to control it:

  • Shutter Switch H2 EU, a wall switch that needs a neutral; Aqara says the motor's limit positions must be set first and suggests consulting your motor installer or an electrician if you are unsure
  • Dual Relay Module T2 set to interlock mode, which suits two-direction motors

Both are fixed wiring on an existing circuit, fitted by a pro who does electrical work.

How is Aqara installation priced in London?

A vetted pro prices your Aqara job from the models and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.

What the job touches moves the price more than the device does. Pairing a hub, fixing sensors, clipping a Curtain Driver E1 onto a rail or fitting radiator thermostat heads is set-up work. A smart lock is locksmith work on the door. An H1 or H2 switch, a Dual Relay Module T2 or a 230 V blind motor is mains work on an existing circuit, priced for isolating, connecting and testing.

The home comes next: a multipoint door that needs adjusting before a lock goes on, a bell transformer too weak for the doorbell, a PoE cable through solid brick. Where a job needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several devices, Aqara or other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.

You buy the Aqara products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a replacement cylinder, a deeper back box, a 12 V plug-in supply or a PoE injector, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work, £55–£110 for electrical work and £60–£130 for locksmith work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.

How it works

Step 1

Name the models and add photos

List the Aqara products you have, or paste the order, and photograph where each goes: the door edge and cylinder for a lock, the transformer label for a doorbell, the switch and consumer unit for a switch, and your router for a hub.

Step 2

See a fixed price, then choose a time

A vetted pro works out one fixed price for the whole list, with any accessory agreed at cost. Nothing is booked until you accept it, and you pick the day.

Step 3

Fitted, paired and tested

Each device fixed, connected and joined to your hub and apps, then tried with you: the lock opened by key and phone, the doorbell rung, the switch's automations run.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Aqara Curtain Driver E1 need a hub?

Plan on one. Aqara routes the driver's Matter support, and with it Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa control, via an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub, so the pro pairs it to the one you have or have bought.

Can I keep my existing curtains and blinds?

Usually, if the hardware passes Aqara's checks: the Curtain Driver E1 works on a compatible track or pole you already have, and the Roller Shade Driver E1 on an existing beaded-chain blind. The 230 V tubular motors are different, because they go inside a roller tube that is bought separately from the fabric.

Does the Roller Shade Driver E1 make a blind child-safe?

No such claim is made, by Aqara or by JACK. What the pro does is leave no hanging loop: the chain runs tight through the screwed-down driver, and it should be restored that way whenever the driver is refitted.

Can you fit Aqara blind motors in a rented flat?

Yes, with your landlord's agreement for anything screwed to the wall. The Curtain Driver E1 clips on without tools, the Roller Shade Driver E1 is screwed beside the window, and a hardwired tubular motor alters the landlord's electrical installation, so it needs their say-so first.

How much does Aqara curtain or blind motor fitting cost in London?

Each window is priced from your photos, and the JACK app shows the fixed total before you book. Several windows go on one booking, and any new track, pole or fused connection unit is added at cost and agreed first. For a whole home in one go, a full day with a pro is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours.
