Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 Installation in London
Updated
The Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 motorises a roller blind you already have by pulling its bead chain for you. It works only with plastic or metal bead chains of 3 to 6 mm, and it is screwed to the wall or reveal with the chain looped through it. A vetted JACK pro in London checks the blind and its chain, fixes the driver where the chain hangs straight and taut, and pairs it to your Aqara hub, for a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London fits the Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 to a roller blind with a plastic or metal bead chain of 3–6 mm, screwing it to the wall so the chain runs taut through it, and pairs it to an Aqara Zigbee hub. It does not work on blinds with cords, wands or no chain, and it runs on its own battery or on constant USB-C power, so no wiring is involved.

How the Roller Shade Driver E1 is powered and mounted
Many roller blinds are raised and lowered by a loop of bead chain on one side. The E1 takes that loop and turns it, so the blind's own roller, brackets and fabric stay exactly as they are. Aqara supports only bead chains with plastic or metal beads between 3 and 6 mm; a blind on a cord, a spring roller or a wand has to be replaced with a bead-chain blind first, or motorised another way.
Where the driver goes matters as much as what it is. Aqara has it screwed to the wall, and that fixing also holds the chain: set in line with the chain's natural drop and with the slack taken up, the loop runs taut through the driver instead of hanging free. The British Blind and Shutter Association's guidance says professional installers must fit compliant blinds, with tensioners fixed so cords and chains stay taut. Aqara makes no child-safety claim for the driver, so JACK does not call it child-safe; the pro simply never leaves a loose loop.
Power is either the built-in battery or a cable. On battery, Aqara's estimate is about two months for a 1.8 m square blind moved once a day, so a wider or heavier blind, or more trips, means charging sooner. A USB-C supply on constant power saves that, at the cost of a cable from a socket to the window. If the driver is ever unscrewed to charge it, it must go back with the chain taut. For the app, schedules and voice control it pairs to an Aqara Zigbee hub.
What the pro checks first
- That the blind runs on a bead chain with plastic or metal beads, and that the beads measure 3–6 mm
- That the blind rolls up and down freely by hand, without catching or the chain slipping
- The blind's size, since Aqara's battery estimate assumes a 1.8 × 1.8 m blind
- A firm spot on the wall or window reveal, in line with the chain
- Whether a socket is close enough for constant USB-C power
What the pro does on the Roller Shade Driver E1
- Driver held in line with the chain's drop and its holes marked so the loop will be taut
- Driver screwed to the wall or reveal with plugs that suit plaster, brick or timber
- Chain fed through the driver and checked for slack at the bottom of the loop
- Fully open and fully closed positions set in the app
- Driver paired to your Aqara hub, named by room and added to scenes or schedules
- Chain checked again after several full runs and re-tensioned if it has crept

Before you book: what to send
- A photo of the blind from inside the room with the chain visible
- A close photo of the bead chain beside a ruler, so the bead size can be checked
- The blind's width and drop
- Which Aqara hub you have, or that you plan to buy one
Is the Roller Shade Driver E1 the right motor for your blind?
Aqara's UK range motorises roller blinds in two ways, and only this one is an add-on with no wiring:
- Roller Shade Driver E1: takes the bead chain of an existing roller blind, on battery or USB-C power
- The Roller Shade Controller T1S is a mains tubular motor that goes inside the blind's tube; Aqara lists it as end of life on its UK security page
- The Smart Roller Shade Controller, model SRSC-M01, is another mains tubular motor that the same page lists as end of life
- Wiring a tubular motor from a fused spur on an existing circuit outside a bathroom is not notifiable; ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, and note a new circuit needs a registered electrician, which JACK does not book

Full pricing guide for Aqara installationFrequently asked questions
Does the Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 work without a hub?
No. Aqara's product page says a compatible Aqara hub is required, and that is how JACK pros set it up: the driver pairs to the hub, and the hub connects it to the Aqara Home app, schedules and voice assistants. If you have no Aqara hub yet, the pro can talk you through the options before you buy one.
Will the Roller Shade Driver E1 fit a blind with a cord instead of a chain?
No. Aqara supports only roller blinds with plastic or metal bead chains of 3 to 6 mm. A corded or wand-operated blind would need replacing with a bead-chain blind first, which a pro can fit; the new blind is your purchase or agreed with you at cost before booking.
Is the Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 child-safe?
Aqara's product page makes no child-safety claim, so JACK does not describe it as child-safe. What a pro does is fix the driver so the chain runs taut through it with no loose loop, in line with blind-safety guidance that cords and chains are kept taut by a fixed device.
How much does Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Roller Shade Driver E1, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price.
