Aqara Dual Relay Module T2 Installation in London
Updated
The Aqara Dual Relay Module T2 is a small two-channel relay that makes ordinary lights, a blind motor or a garage door opener controllable through an Aqara Zigbee hub. It is a mains device that needs a neutral, it is bigger than most UK switch boxes can hold, and its LED rating is a fraction of its 10 A headline. A vetted JACK pro in London who does electrical work finds it a home behind a switch, near the light or in a separate enclosure, wires it and pairs it, for a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London who does electrical work fits the Aqara T2 relay on an existing circuit where a live and a neutral can both be reached and there is room for it in a deep box or an accessible enclosure, then pairs it to your Aqara Zigbee hub. Adding it to an existing circuit outside a bathroom's zones is not notifiable in England, but it is still mains work, so ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate; any wiring at a boiler goes to a Gas Safe registered engineer instead.

Device facts come from Aqara's product pages, its UK and EU store, the Aqara UK Shop and Aqara's own Amazon UK listings, linked beside each fact. Aqara often sells one product under two codes and uses EU models in the UK, so check the name and code on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 1 November 2026.
How the Dual Relay Module T2 is powered and mounted
The T2 is a relay, not a switch: it sits out of sight, takes a permanent live and a neutral, and switches two separate outputs that you control from the Aqara app or automations. The neutral is the first hurdle in British homes, where it usually stays at the ceiling rose rather than coming down to the switch. Size is the second: Aqara recommends a box about 60 mm deep, and a 25 mm switch box or a standard plastic ceiling rose has no room for a module of this size alongside the wiring.
So the pro looks for the place where live, neutral and space meet: a deep box behind the switch, a void above the light that can be reached through an access point, or a small enclosure on the wall. Wherever it goes, its connections have to stay reachable for inspection and sit inside a proper enclosure, so a relay is never pushed into a ceiling and plastered over. The DIN-rail clip in the box suits a separate enclosure; JACK pros do not fit anything inside your consumer unit, which is a job for a registered electrician.
The 10 A figure is for resistive loads such as filament lamps. For LED lighting the limit is 1 A, or 250 W, and motors are held to 1 A, so a run of LED downlights or a blind motor is sized against those numbers instead. In dry-contact mode the T2 simply closes a volt-free contact, which is how it can stand in for the push button of a garage door opener without sending mains into it; in interlock mode the two channels are never on together, which suits a motor wired with one line for up and one for down.
What the pro checks first
- Where a permanent live and a neutral can both be reached: at the switch, the ceiling rose or a junction box
- Space for a 45.5 × 48 × 24 mm module, with Aqara's 60 mm box depth as the guide
- The real load on each channel, especially LED wattage against the 250 W figure
- What it will switch: lights, a two-direction motor, or a device that needs a volt-free contact
- Whether any part of the plan reaches a boiler, the consumer unit or a bathroom, which JACK does not take on
- That your Aqara Zigbee hub is within range of where the relay will sit
What the pro does on the Dual Relay Module T2
- Circuit isolated, proved dead where the pro will work, and every conductor identified by test
- Relay housed in a deep box or an accessible enclosure, never sealed into a ceiling or wall
- Live, neutral and each output connected, with the mode set for lights, a motor or a dry contact
- A garage door opener connected only at a push-button input named in its own manual, with its mains side left alone
- Module paired to your Aqara Zigbee hub, and each channel named and switched from the app
- Circuit tested after fitting; ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
How the Dual Relay Module T2 installation goes
- 1Photos of the switch, light or device reviewed, so the relay's position and any enclosure are agreed before the visit
- 2Power off at the consumer unit and the circuit proved dead at the point of work
- 3Relay mounted and wired in its box or enclosure
- 4Power restored and both channels switched from the Aqara Home app
- 5Interlock, dry-contact or automation settings set up with you
- 6Enclosure closed, labelled and left reachable for future inspection
Before you book: what to send
- What you want the T2 to control, with a photo of the switch, light fitting, motor or opener
- The wattage of the lights, or the motor's rating plate, if you can see it
- Which Aqara hub you have, since the T2 joins over Zigbee
- For a garage door, the opener's make and model so its push-button input can be checked
Can the Aqara T2 switch a boiler?
Aqara's UK shop suggests using the T2 to control boilers that accept a dry contact. JACK draws the line where the gas rules and boiler makers draw it:
- Any wiring at the boiler itself, inside its case, goes to a Gas Safe registered engineer under JACK's own rule; Gas Safe Register says a boiler's screwed-on functional case should not be removed by anyone who is not registered
- Replacing an old wall programmer on its existing cable is controls work at the wall and not gas work, but the T2 is a general-purpose relay, not a purpose-made heating control
- For heating, a pro fits a purpose-made smart thermostat at the wall instead, the kind covered on JACK's Hive and tado° pages
What can the T2 switch, and within what limits?
Aqara's specification sets a different ceiling for each kind of load.
| Load | Aqara's limit | What the pro checks |
|---|---|---|
| Filament or halogen lamps | 10 A across both channels, 2500 W | Both channels' wattage added together |
| LED or CFL lighting | 1 A / 250 W | Every lamp's wattage added up against 250 W |
| Blind, shutter or fan motor | 1 A, ¼ HP; interlock mode for two-direction motors | The motor's rating plate and its maker's wiring instructions |
| Garage door or gate opener | Dry-contact mode | That the opener's manual names a push-button or volt-free input |
| Boiler | Marketed for dry-contact boilers | Not wired by JACK at the boiler: a Gas Safe registered engineer's job |
Aqara does not say whether the LED limit applies per channel or across both, so the pro treats 250 W as the total.

Full pricing guide for Aqara installationFrequently asked questions
Does the Aqara T2 relay need a neutral?
Yes, when it runs on mains: Aqara's UK shop says it must be connected to the live and neutral wires, and the only alternative is a 24–60 V DC supply. If your switch box has no neutral, the relay usually goes near the light, where the neutral is, in its own accessible enclosure.
Can the Aqara T2 open a garage door?
It can trigger an opener that has a push-button input. In dry-contact mode the T2 closes a volt-free contact, much like pressing the wall button. A JACK pro connects it only to an input the opener's maker documents, and leaves the opener's mains supply and its own safety settings alone.
Will the T2 fit behind a UK light switch?
Rarely without changes. Aqara recommends a wall box about 60 mm deep, and many UK switch boxes are 25 or 35 mm. The options are a deeper or surface-mounted box, or an accessible enclosure near the light; Aqara's own suggestion for a box that is too shallow is to work the relay from a wireless switch instead.
How much does Aqara Dual Relay Module T2 installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Dual Relay Module T2, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for electrical work is typically £55–£110 per hour as a guide.
