Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 Installation in London

Updated

The Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 takes the place of the numbered head on a thermostatic radiator valve, so each room can keep its own temperature and schedule. It screws onto M30 × 1.5 valves directly, comes with six adapters for other valves, and runs on two AA batteries. A vetted JACK pro in London matches every valve to its adapter, fits the heads and sets them up in Thread or Zigbee mode, for a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London fits Aqara W600 heads on radiators that already have thermostatic valves: the old head comes off, the W600 goes on directly or with one of its six adapters, and no water is drained. It works over Thread with a Matter controller, or over Zigbee through an Aqara hub, which is the mode Aqara needs for local schedules, frost protection and an external temperature sensor.

How the Radiator Thermostat W600 is powered and mounted

Only the head changes. The thermostatic valve body stays on the radiator, and the head that works it unscrews without opening the heating system. The W600's nut fits M30 × 1.5 bodies, a common thread on British valves, and Aqara puts six adapters in the box for Danfoss RA, RAV and RAVL valves, Caleffi and Giacomini bodies, and M28 × 1.5 threads. A valve outside that list may take a third-party adapter, agreed with you and added at cost before you book.

The radio you choose decides what you get. In Thread mode the W600 joins Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or another Matter system directly, through that system's Thread border router. In Zigbee mode it pairs to an Aqara hub instead, and that is the mode Aqara needs for local schedules, frost protection, an external sensor, or a Climate Sensor W100 acting as the room's thermostat. The pro agrees one mode for the whole house with you rather than mixing them radiator by radiator.

A head cannot help a radiator that has no thermostatic valve. Plain on/off valves, or a valve that weeps or is seized, need a new valve body first, which means draining down and refilling the system: plumbing, not gas work, as long as nobody touches the boiler, and booked separately before the heads go on. The room with the wall thermostat needs a word too, because a radiator head there can work against it; Approved Document L's guidance for new homes and boiler replacements in England says thermostatic radiator valves should not be used in the same room as the thermostat.

What the pro checks first

  • The make and thread of each valve body, to choose the adapter it needs
  • That every valve is thermostatic, not a plain on/off valve
  • Weeping glands, corrosion or a stuck pin on any valve before its old head comes off
  • Which room has the wall thermostat
  • Whether you run Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or an Aqara hub, which settles Thread or Zigbee

What the pro does on the Radiator Thermostat W600

  • Old head undone at its own nut, with the valve body left untouched
  • Matching adapter seated fully on the valve before the W600 goes on
  • Batteries fitted, each head paired in the agreed mode and named by room
  • Schedules, frost protection or an external sensor set up where Zigbee mode is used
  • A door/window sensor linked for open-window pause, where you have one
  • Each radiator driven open and closed from the app to check the valve pin moves

How the Radiator Thermostat W600 installation goes

  1. 1Valve photos reviewed, so adapters and any valve-body work are known before the visit
  2. 2Thread or Zigbee agreed, and the hub or Matter controller checked
  3. 3Old heads removed, one radiator at a time
  4. 4Adapters and W600 heads fitted
  5. 5Heads paired, named and grouped by room
  6. 6Schedules set and every radiator tested from the app

Before you book: what to send

  • A close photo of one valve in each room, with the old head still on
  • How many radiators you want covered
  • Which hub or smart-home app you use, if any
  • Any radiators whose valves have no numbered head at all

What about the older Aqara Radiator Thermostat E1?

Aqara marks the Smart Radiator Thermostat E1 (SRTS-A01) as end of life on its UK security page, with a defined support period to 31 December 2026, and its UK shop has moved the E1 bundles into a discontinued category. For people who already own E1 heads:

  • It fits M30 × 1.5 valves and comes with three adapters, RA, RAV and RAVL, so Caleffi, Giacomini and M28 valves are not covered from the box
  • It is Zigbee 3.0 only, and Aqara says an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub is required
  • Aqara says it works only with thermostatic valves, with manual, return temperature limiter (RTL) and monotube systems not supported
  • For other valves, Aqara's advice is to consult a professional installer or an Aqara distributor; a pro fits E1 heads only on valves Aqara supports
  • For any new heads, the W600 is Aqara's current model

Frequently asked questions

Will the Aqara W600 fit UK radiator valves?

Most thermostatic ones. It screws straight onto M30 × 1.5 valve bodies and comes with adapters for Danfoss RA, RAV and RAVL, Caleffi, Giacomini and M28 × 1.5. Aqara calls it compatible with the majority of radiator valves; for anything else, a close photo of the valve lets the pro check before you book.

Does the Aqara W600 need a hub?

Not in Thread mode, where it joins a Matter system such as Apple Home or Google Home through a Thread border router you already have. Zigbee mode does need an Aqara hub, and Aqara keeps several features for that mode, including local schedules, frost protection and pairing with an external sensor.

Do I need a Gas Safe engineer to fit Aqara radiator thermostats?

No. Changing the head on an existing thermostatic valve opens no water and involves no gas or electrical work. Replacing a valve body is plumbing, booked separately, and the boiler itself is the point where a Gas Safe registered engineer takes over.

How much does Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Radiator Thermostat W600, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
