Aqara Smart Lock U600 Installation in London

Updated

The U600 (model EL-D11E) is the Aqara lock made for UK multipoint doors, and it is new in the UK since October 2026. Rather than clamping over your cylinder, it replaces the outside and inside handles and the cylinder, and works the multipoint gearbox already in the door. A vetted JACK locksmith in London checks your door against Aqara's limits before the old handles come off, fits the lock and sets it up, for a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.

In short

Yes, a vetted JACK locksmith in London fits the Aqara Smart Lock U600 on a multipoint door that passes Aqara's checks: 40–80 mm thick, with handle centres of 72–92 mm, a 35–70 mm backset, and a handle that throws the deadbolt when you lift it. The U600 replaces both handles and the cylinder and keeps the multipoint lock body in the door. Aqara asks buyers to check with their insurer first, because fitting the U600 means removing the existing cylinder.

Device facts come from Aqara's product pages, its UK and EU store, the Aqara UK Shop and Aqara's own Amazon UK listings, linked beside each fact. Aqara often sells one product under two codes and uses EU models in the UK, so check the name and code on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 1 November 2026.

How the Smart Lock U600 is powered and mounted

The U600 is a handle set, not a cylinder add-on. Aqara's manual has the fitter take off the existing front and rear handle panels and the cylinder, leave the lock body in the door, and use the U600's own square spindles and fixings, chosen by door thickness in three bands: 40–50, 51–60 and 61–80 mm. Its fifth step says not to reuse the screws that came out. The outside panel holds the fingerprint reader, keypad and a keyhole for the two keys in the box, and Aqara rates that outer panel, not the inner one, at IP65.

Aqara says the U600 operates your existing lock mechanism through the handle. Aqara's UK Shop notes that many British multipoint locks need the handle lifted first to throw the bolts, which is why a door whose handle does not throw the deadbolt is ruled out. Owners on Aqara's forum report that the outside handle feels loose until the lock is unlocked, and that this is how it is meant to work. Four AA batteries run it for up to 10 months in Aqara's figures, and a USB-C port gives emergency power if they go flat.

Day to day it works without a hub, over Bluetooth, its keypad and fingerprint reader. Remote unlock needs an Aqara hub: Aqara's UK Shop recommends the Hub M3, M100 or Camera Hub G5 Pro, and its Amazon UK listing also names the M200 and the Doorbell Camera Hub G410. Matter over Thread, through a Thread border router that supports Matter, brings it into Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa; the manual asks for IPv6 on the home network and for the lock to sit within 5 m of the Thread controller, or 3 m through walls. Apple Home Key needs an Apple home hub such as a HomePod or Apple TV.

What the pro checks first

  • Lifting the existing handle to see whether the deadbolt goes out, because if it does not, Aqara says the U600 cannot operate it
  • The handle centres, from the middle of the spindle to the middle of the cylinder, which must fall within 72–92 mm
  • The backset, the door thickness and the cylinder hole against Aqara's 35–70 mm, 40–80 mm and 18 mm figures
  • A trial of the latch test from Aqara's manual: with the handle pressed fully, the latch has to retract all the way
  • Whether the multipoint already locks without forcing, since Aqara does not recommend the U600 for a door that is hard to lock
  • Whether the door is a flat's entrance door onto a shared corridor, which changes the answer (see below)

What the pro does on the Smart Lock U600

  • Old handles and cylinder removed and handed back to you, with the lock body and keeps left in place as Aqara's manual specifies
  • Spindles and screws taken from the U600 box for your door thickness band, and none of the old screws reused
  • Handing set before fitting, so the handles sit the right way for a left- or right-hand door
  • Front panel positioned with Aqara's template for the locating screw posts; if a hole needs easing to line up, that is agreed with you first
  • The connecting cable between the outside and inside panels routed so the door cannot pinch it
  • Fingerprints, codes and NFC cards added for the household, and Night Latch mode shown: while it is on, only admins, phone Bluetooth and emergency keys open the door from outside

How the Smart Lock U600 installation goes

  1. 1Door measured and the lift and latch tests tried with the old handle before anything comes off
  2. 2Existing handle panels and cylinder removed, with the multipoint lock body left in the door
  3. 3Handing set and the spindles and screws for your door thickness picked from the box
  4. 4Outside panel offered up with the positioning template, the cable fed through and the inside panel fixed
  5. 5Handle pressed fully to confirm the latch retracts, as Aqara's manual requires, then the lift-to-lock run several times
  6. 6Batteries fitted, the lock added in Aqara Home, and Matter or Apple Home Key set up if you use them
  7. 7The key from the box tried from outside, and the inside handle tried, before the pro leaves

Before you book: what to send

  • Photos of the door from outside and inside, and of the door edge with it open, showing the faceplate and hooks
  • Two measurements: spindle centre to cylinder centre, and door edge to spindle centre
  • Whether lifting your handle throws the bolts, or the hooks engage by themselves as the door shuts
  • Your insurer's lock clause, or their written reply about the U600
  • If you rent, your landlord's agreement; in a flat, whether the door opens onto a common corridor

Will the U600 fit a slam-shut or a timber door?

Aqara's rules are about the handle and the measurements, not the material, but some door types it has not answered:

  • Lift-to-lock uPVC and composite doors, where lifting the handle throws the hooks, are the doors the U600 is designed for
  • On slam-shut multipoints, where the hooks engage as the door closes, Aqara has not said whether the U600 works, so the pro checks on site and does not fit it on a guess
  • Aqara's Amazon UK listing includes timber doors within 40–80 mm, but only with a multipoint thrown by the handle; a timber door with a nightlatch and a mortice deadlock is not a U600 door
  • Where the handle centres fall outside 72–92 mm, the U200, which works from the inside over your cylinder, is the Aqara lock to look at instead

What should you ask your insurer before a U600 goes on?

Aqara itself says to check, because fitting the U600 takes out your existing cylinder. What the lock carries, and what it does not:

  • Aqara shows four badges, CE, REACH, EN 16867 and RoHS, and the U600 is Matter certified
  • EN 16867 is the European standard for electronic door furniture, published by BSI as BS EN 16867:2020+A1:2021; Aqara does not publish the U600's grade under it, and it is not TS 007, BS 3621 or PAS 24
  • Sold Secure's smart-lock list showed no Aqara lock on 1 November 2026, and an owner's review on Aqara's forum relays that the U600 did not then hold a BSI Kitemark
  • The Master Locksmiths Association says a smart lock without independent certification should only be used as secondary security or access control

One UK policy wording asks for a key-operated multipoint with at least three locking points and a cylinder of five pins or more. The U600 has a key, but its cylinder is Aqara's own with no stated rating, so get your insurer's answer in writing, an email will do, before the pro takes yours out.

Can the U600 go on a flat's front door?

Not if it is a flat entrance fire door. A flat door onto a common corridor or stair is normally an FD30S fire door, and the U600 swaps the very parts that matter:

  • It replaces the handles and the cylinder, and BSI's record for EN 16867 says suitability for fire or smoke doors depends on separate fire resistance tests, which Aqara does not publish for the U600
  • GOV.UK's fire door guidance says a change to a flat's front door should be made with the Responsible Person's knowledge and agreement
  • JACK's own rule is that its pros do not fit the U600 on a flat entrance fire door; your managing agent or Responsible Person can point you to a fire-door specialist

A house front door, or a flat door that does not open onto shared parts, is judged on the fit checks above. On a fire door, the U200 over an existing emergency-function cylinder is the Aqara option to ask your building about.

Which UK handle centres does the U600 take?

Aqara's 72–92 mm range set against handle sizes UK retailers list for common multipoint systems.

Handle system or sizeCentresWithin 72–92 mm?
The size most often quoted for uPVC handles92 mmYes, at the top of the range
Ferco70 mmNo
Fullex68 mmNo
Millenco95 mmNo

Centres run from the middle of the spindle to the middle of the cylinder. Handle-system sizes come from UK handle retailers' listings, so measure your own door; the U600 also needs a 35–70 mm backset, a 40–80 mm door and a cylinder hole of 18 mm or more.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Aqara U600 sold in the UK?

Yes, it is new in the UK. Aqara's own UK/EU store has listed it since 14 October 2026, Aqara Official UK sells it on Amazon UK, and the Aqara UK Shop showed it on back-order on 1 November 2026. JACK does not sell it: you buy the lock, and a pro fits it.

Can I fit the Aqara U600 myself?

You can, but only once you know your door suits it. Aqara's Amazon UK listing presents fitting as a short job, while adding that it depends on door compatibility and existing hardware. The part that matters is the checking: measuring the centres and backset, the lift and latch tests, the right spindle and screws for the door thickness, and the handing. A pro who finds your door out of range tells you before your cylinder comes out.

Does the Aqara U600 affect home insurance?

It can. Aqara says to check with your insurer because fitting the U600 removes your existing cylinder, and the lock lists no BS 3621, TS 007, Sold Secure or PAS 24 rating. Send your policy's lock clause before booking, and keep the insurer's reply.

Does the U600 need an Aqara hub?

Not for everyday use: Aqara's UK Shop says the lock works normally without one. For remote unlock and automations, Aqara recommends the Hub M3, M100 or Camera Hub G5 Pro, and its Amazon UK listing adds the M200 and the Doorbell Camera Hub G410.

How much does Aqara Smart Lock U600 installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Smart Lock U600, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for locksmith is typically £60–£130 per hour as a guide.
