Aqara Smart Lock U200 Installation in London

Updated

The U200 (EL-D02D and EL-D02E in Aqara's UK statement) sits on the inside of the door over the cylinder you already have and turns the inside key or thumbturn for you, while a keypad outside adds fingerprint, PIN, NFC and Apple Home Key. The multipoint stays as it is, but the cylinder has to pass Aqara's rules. A vetted JACK locksmith in London checks it, fits the lock and keypad, calibrates it for a lift-to-lock handle and sets it up, for a fixed price in the JACK app before you book.

In short

Yes, a vetted JACK locksmith in London fits the Aqara Smart Lock U200, or the keypad-free U200 Lite, over the inside of an existing euro, UK oval or select Scandi cylinder, leaving the multipoint or mortice lock in the door as it is. The cylinder must have an emergency function, so a key still opens it from outside with another key left inside, and its inside key can be no thicker than 5 mm. Remote access through Aqara needs a Thread-capable Aqara hub such as the Hub M3.

Device facts come from Aqara's product pages, its UK and EU store, the Aqara UK Shop and Aqara's own Amazon UK listings, linked beside each fact. Aqara often sells one product under two codes and uses EU models in the UK, so check the name and code on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 1 November 2026.

How the Smart Lock U200 is powered and mounted

The U200 is a motor that lives on the inside of the door. A fixed plate goes onto the cylinder first: screwed to it where the cylinder stands at least 3 mm proud of the inside handle plate, or stuck with Aqara's 3M pad where it is flatter. The lock body then clips over the key you leave in the inside of the cylinder, or over the thumbturn through an adapter. Aqara calls those adapters consumable parts that may need replacing after about two years, and warns that over-tightening the plate screws can affect how the cylinder turns.

Outside, the keypad takes fingerprints, PINs, NFC cards and Apple Home Key, and Aqara wants it within 2 m of the lock. It runs on four AAA batteries, or on a 12–24 V supply at 0.5 A; Aqara's own pages give slightly different current figures, so a wired keypad gets a supply sized for 0.5 A. The lock itself runs on a rechargeable 7.4 V pack or four AA cells.

On a UK lift-to-lock door the U200 turns the key, but it cannot lift the handle, so you still lift it to throw the hooks before locking from the app or keypad. Aqara's calibration for the UK lift-lever lock has you lift the handle when the app asks to extend the bolts, then switch on its Pull Spring setting. For remote unlock, automations and Matter, the lock needs a Thread-capable Aqara hub; the older Zigbee-only Hub E1, M2 and M1S cannot run it.

What the pro checks first

  • The emergency-function test: with one key in the inside of the cylinder, a second key must still open the door from outside
  • The inside key, which can be no thicker than 5 mm with a head no longer than 39 mm
  • How far the cylinder stands proud of the inside handle plate, which decides between screws and adhesive
  • Whether the door is lift-to-lock or self-locking, since Aqara says the U200 is not suitable for self-locking doors
  • The marking on the cylinder face, so a TS 007 three-star cylinder is never swapped for an unrated one just to suit the lock
  • For the keypad, a spot within 2 m of the lock that needs no hole through a fire door or its frame

What the pro does on the Smart Lock U200

  • Fixed plate screwed or stuck to the cylinder by Aqara's 3 mm rule, with screws snug rather than tight
  • The adapter that matches your inside key or thumbturn, with a note that Aqara treats adapters as wearing parts
  • Calibration done the UK lift-lever way: handle lifted at the bolt prompt, then Pull Spring switched on
  • Keypad fixed outside within 2 m of the lock on batteries, or on a 12–24 V supply where you want it wired
  • Auto-lock set only if your door suits it, because on a lift-to-lock door the hooks still need the handle lifted first
  • Fingerprints, PINs and NFC cards added, and the outside key tried with the inside key in place

How the Smart Lock U200 installation goes

  1. 1Cylinder checked for the emergency function and key size; if it fails, a replacement is agreed with you before any work
  2. 2Fixed plate mounted on the inside of the cylinder with screws or the 3M pad
  3. 3Adapter and lock body fitted over the inside key or thumbturn
  4. 4Lock added in Aqara Home and calibrated, lifting the handle when the app asks
  5. 5Pull Spring switched on, and lock and unlock run from the app several times
  6. 6Keypad paired and fixed outside, then codes, fingerprints and cards enrolled
  7. 7Thread hub or Matter linked if you use one, and the outside key tried before the pro leaves

Before you book: what to send

  • A close photo of the inside of the cylinder with the key in, showing how far it stands proud
  • Whether a second key opens the door from outside while one sits in the inside (the emergency-function test)
  • Photos of both handles and the door edge, and whether lifting the handle throws the bolts
  • Which Aqara hub you have, if any: M3, M100, M200, G5 Pro, or an older E1, M2 or M1S
  • Whether you want the keypad on batteries or wired, and a photo of where it would go
  • In a flat or a rented home, the managing agent's or landlord's agreement

What is different about the U200 Lite?

The U200 Lite (EL-D03E or EL-D03D in Aqara's UK statement) is the same inside retrofit without the outside keypad:

  • Aqara's UK Shop lists it for EU mortise locks and part of the UK lift-lever range, and it keeps the U200's cylinder rules
  • It opens from the app, by Bluetooth, from an NFC sticker or by voice, on a 2,000 mAh rechargeable battery that Aqara rates for up to six months
  • Aqara's Amazon UK listing names the Hub M3, M100 and Camera Hub G5 Pro for its remote features, and rules out Aqara's older Zigbee-only hubs
  • Aqara's most recent UK statement for the Lite gives a support period to 31 December 2027 (checked 1 November 2026); one model code appears in both the U200 and Lite statements, so the pro reads yours from the label
  • Neither version suits a British five-lever mortice lock, which has no cylinder for the motor to turn

With no keypad, keep a key for the outside of a U200 Lite door, or plan to open it from your phone.

What if your cylinder fails Aqara's test?

Then the cylinder changes, not the door. The options, agreed with you before booking:

  • A TS 007 three-star euro cylinder whose maker states an emergency or anti-block function, sized to your door, so the anti-snap rating is kept
  • Aqara's own Adjustable Cylinder (AL-D04E), which adjusts from 62 to 132 mm and has the emergency function, though Aqara's UK Shop lists no TS 007 or other standard for it
  • Any cylinder is bought by you or added at cost, since JACK does not stock or sell locks

Can a U200 go on a flat's fire door or an HMO exit?

It is the gentler Aqara option, because the lock itself adds no holes through the door and leaves the fire-rated lock in place, but it still comes with conditions:

  • On a flat entrance fire door, the managing agent or Responsible Person agrees first, as GOV.UK's fire door guidance asks for any change to a front door
  • The existing cylinder must already have the emergency function; on a fire door the pro does not swap it to suit the U200 without evidence the new one is acceptable on that doorset
  • The inside unit must not stop the door closing on its self-closer and latching
  • Keypad cables never pass through a fire door or its frame
  • In an HMO, Wandsworth's fire-safety advice is that exit doors open from inside without a removable key, and the pro checks the door still does once the U200 is on

Frequently asked questions

Does the Aqara U200 work on a UK multipoint door?

Yes, on many lift-to-lock multipoints. Aqara lists the UK lift-lever lock as compatible and rates it 'Moderate', because the adhesive area is small and may need reinforcing. You still lift the handle to throw the hooks, then the U200 turns the key. Aqara says it is not suitable for self-locking doors, so a slam-shut multipoint is checked on site.

Which hub does the Aqara U200 need?

None to use it at the door over Bluetooth or the keypad. For remote access, automations and Matter it needs a Thread-capable Aqara hub: the Hub M3, M100 or M200, or the Camera Hub G5 Pro. Aqara's Amazon UK listing still names only the M3 and G5 Pro, while Aqara's own store sells it bundled with the M100 and M200. The older Zigbee-only E1, M2 and M1S will not run it.

Does the U200 keypad need wiring?

No. It runs on four AAA batteries. Aqara also allows a 12–24 V supply and says a compatible transformer should be installed by a professional electrician. A plug-in transformer means no mains work; one on a fused spur is mains work that is not notifiable, so ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate; one on a new way in the consumer unit needs a registered electrician, which JACK does not book.

Is the Aqara U200 still supported?

Yes, for now: Aqara's UK product-security statement for the U200 and its keypad gives a defined support period to 31 December 2026 (checked 1 November 2026). That is how long Aqara has committed to security updates, not a date the lock stops working, and Aqara has extended such dates before, as it did for the U200 Lite.

How much does Aqara Smart Lock U200 installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Smart Lock U200, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for locksmith is typically £60–£130 per hour as a guide.
