Philips Hue · What Philips Hue installation costs depend on
What Decides the Cost of Philips Hue Installation in London?
Updated
Philips Hue jobs range from pairing a few bulbs to a day of switches, spotlights and garden lights. On JACK the price is fixed before you book and worked out from your photos. This page shows what a pro weighs when setting it, without device prices, because you buy the Hue kit yourself.
In short
What you pay for Philips Hue installation in London depends on the work around the lights: set-up only, switch modules behind existing switches, fittings swapped on existing wiring, new spotlights cut into a ceiling, or garden lights that need an outdoor socket and cable runs. A vetted JACK pro turns your photos into one fixed price, shown in the JACK app before you book; as a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart-home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work. You buy the Hue products, and any parts are agreed at cost before booking.

What does a set-up-only Hue job involve?
There is no wiring at all, so it books under smart home. The work is in:
- Connecting the Bridge to the router and adding each bulb, lamp, lightstrip and remote
- Rooms, zones, scenes and power-on behaviour for each light
- Linking Hue to Google Home, Alexa or Apple Home
- Moving an older Bridge to a Bridge Pro, a one-way upgrade after which voice assistants are linked again
- TV sync: Play light bars or a gradient lightstrip behind the TV, and the Play HDMI Sync Box in the HDMI chain
What moves the price of Hue switch work?
Each switch position is its own small electrical job:
- How many switches control each light, since Hue's battery module needs one at every switch on two-way and intermediate circuits
- Whether there is a neutral, for Hue's wired modules
- An old dimmer to take out and replace with a plain or push switch
- The depth of the back box, and whether a deeper one is needed
- Metal plates on a circuit with no earth, which are changed for plastic or have an earth run to them
What moves the price of Hue fittings and spotlights?
Most of these book under electrical work, and what is in the ceiling matters most:
- A Hue fitting on an existing ceiling point is a swap, but large ones need more fixing: Hue lists the 120 cm Datura at 8.6 kg
- Perifo track: rails fixed to the ceiling and a power supply wired to the existing point, planned around Hue's 100 W limit per ceiling power supply
- New spotlights in a house ceiling: the number of holes, the 100 mm void that Centura and Milliskin need, and fire hoods where JACK's rules ask for them
- Under another flat: Hue GU10 bulbs in the existing fire-rated downlights, with no ceiling work
- Old 12 V halogen spots: Hue's MR16 bulbs need a compatible 12 V transformer, and Signify publishes a list rating transformers from recommended to not compatible, so each one is checked against it and swapped where needed
- Class I fittings on an older circuit with no earth
What moves the price of outdoor Hue and Hue Secure?
Outside, access and cable routes take the time:
- A mains wall light or the Secure Flood Light Camera in place of an existing outside light: the earth, a permanent live and sealing the wall
- Low-volt garden lights: an outdoor socket if there is none, how far the cable runs, and conduit under paving
- Festavia permanent along eaves or a roofline: ladder work, clips and a cable route to a socket; for high work, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature
- The Hue Secure wired video doorbell: a new transformer if yours gives less than Hue's 12–24 V AC at 10 VA, as many British bell transformers do
What does the fixed price cover?
So the fixed price is clear before you book:
- Included: the agreed fitting and wiring on existing circuits, pairing each device with your Bridge, and a walk through the Hue app
- Not included: the Hue products, which you buy, since JACK does not sell devices
- Not booked through JACK: a new circuit, consumer unit work, or fixed work inside a bathroom's zones, which go to a registered electrician
- Parts such as back boxes, push switches, fire hoods, transformers, outdoor sockets and conduit are added at cost and agreed before you book, and so is paid parking
For any job that alters a circuit, ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.
Your photos set one fixed price for every part of the Hue job
Pros on JACK are vetted, insured pros come first in the list, and only London addresses can book. Send:
- Each switch, fitting or wall involved, with enough of the room or garden around it to show access
- The consumer unit with its cover closed
- What is above any ceiling that gets new spotlights, and for a flat or a rental, the freeholder's or landlord's consent
- The Hue products, from the box or your order
Several Hue jobs, and other smart-home devices, can go on one booking for one price. For a whole-house job, a full day books one pro on site for up to 8 hours at a flat £350–£400.

| Lightstrips, Play light bars and the Play HDMI Sync Box | Plug-in | Aluminium profiles for hidden strips, cable covers | Smart home |

| Hue ceiling, pendant or Perifo light | The existing ceiling point | Extra fixings into the joists | Electrical work |
| New Hue spotlights in a house | An existing lighting circuit | Fire hoods where JACK's rules need them | Electrical work |

| Low-volt garden lights or Festavia permanent | Hue power supply into an outdoor socket | Outdoor socket, in-use cover, conduit, extension cables | Smart home |

How is Philips Hue installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Hue job from the products and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
Whether the job touches your wiring matters more than how many lights there are. Fitting B22 or GU10 bulbs, setting up a Bridge and plugging in lamps, Play bars or a lightstrip is set-up work. Ceiling lights, Perifo track, wall switch modules and mains outdoor lights are electrical work on your existing circuits, priced for the isolating, connecting and testing each one needs.
Then the home itself: a heavy fitting that has to go into a joist, a high or sloping ceiling, a two-way landing that needs a module at both switches, old cable with no earth, or a long garden run for low-volt lights. On a high ceiling or a long fitting, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several Hue jobs, and devices from other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.
You buy the Hue products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a deeper back box, an in-use cover for an outdoor socket or aluminium channel for a strip, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site, which suits a whole-house Hue fit.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install Philips Hue in London?
There is no list price, because Hue jobs vary so much. A JACK pro works out a fixed price for your home from photos, and it is shown in the JACK app before you book. As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart-home set-up and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work such as wired modules and fittings.
Is the Hue kit included in the installation price?
No. You buy the Hue products from any shop, and JACK does not sell them. Parts the job needs, such as a back box, fire hoods or an outdoor socket, are agreed with you at cost before you book.
Why is a Hue switch module priced per switch?
Because each switch position is its own job: the box is opened, the wiring identified, and the module fitted and checked. A light controlled from two or three places needs a module behind every one of those switches.
Can I book a whole day for a large Hue installation?
Yes. A full day is one pro on site for up to 8 hours at a flat £350–£400, which suits switches, spotlights and set-up across a whole house on one visit.
Can other smart-home devices go on the same booking?
Yes. Hue work and other smart-home jobs, such as a video doorbell or cameras, can share one booking and one fixed price.
