Philips Hue Secure Camera and Doorbell Installation in London
Updated
Hue Secure links cameras, a contact sensor, a doorbell and a chime to your Hue lights, so an alert can flash the lights as well as your phone. A vetted JACK pro places each device where it covers your property rather than the neighbours', sets the alarms with you and adds everything to the Hue app.
In short
Yes: a JACK pro in London sets up Philips Hue Secure cameras, the Secure contact sensor and the Smart Chime, and fits Hue's Wired video doorbell and Secure Flood Light Camera. Plug-in and battery cameras need a socket or a charge and a fixing within Wi-Fi reach, the doorbell needs a bell transformer giving 12–24 V AC at 10 VA or more, and the floodlight camera is mains electrical work with an earth and a Hue Bridge. JACK shows you a fixed price in the app before you book.
Send a photo of each spot and the view from it, the device names from your boxes, and a photo of any bell transformer or outside light you want replaced. Say where your Hue Bridge and router sit.

Philips Hue secure cameras and doorbell pros install
Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.
Secure Floodlight Camera installation
Hue's mains floodlight with a 1080p camera built in: 2,250 lumens, listed as Class I so it needs an earth, and run through a Hue Bridge.
Secure Wired Video Doorbell installation
Hue's only UK doorbell is wired with no battery: it needs a 12–24 V AC transformer of at least 10 VA, and Hue's Smart Chime takes over from your old chime.
What does the Hue Secure range include in the UK?
Hue's UK security range includes:
- Cameras: the Secure wired camera (also sold with a desktop stand), the Secure 2K Wired Camera, the Secure 2K Desktop Camera, the Secure battery camera and the Secure Flood Light Camera
- The Wired video doorbell, the Secure smart chime, and a bundle of the two
- The Secure contact sensor for doors and windows
- Accessories such as a camera mount with a ground spike, a desktop stand, an anti-drop cable and a 3 m USB-C camera power cable
Hue's UK doorbell is wired only: no battery Hue doorbell turned up, in the UK or elsewhere, when this page was checked.
Philips Hue Secure Wired Video Doorbell installationHow is each Hue Secure camera powered?
Power decides where each camera can go:
- Secure 2K Wired Camera: 2K, rated IP65 for indoor and outdoor use, with Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5 GHz; its mains adapter is rated IP20, so the adapter stays indoors or somewhere fully dry while the lead comes out
- Secure wired camera (1080p): plugs into a socket, rated IP65 and listed for -20 to 45 °C
- Secure battery camera: IP65, for a wall or ceiling, with a wall mount in the box; Hue lists 7–8 hours to charge, and how long a charge lasts depends on how often it records, so it goes where you can reach it
- Secure Flood Light Camera: a mains light fitting at 220–240 V, Class I and earthed, that needs a Hue Bridge; it replaces an outside light and books as electrical work
What does the Hue doorbell need at your front door?
Hue's Wired video doorbell has no battery, so the wiring at the door decides the job:
- A bell transformer giving 12–24 V AC and at least 10 VA, which is not in the box; many UK bell transformers give only 8 V at about 8 VA, so a stronger one is often part of the job
- Hue says the doorbell is not compatible with your existing chime: the old chime is disconnected and Hue's plug-in Smart Chime takes over
- Hue's set-up guide asks for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi within 10 m of the router and a mounting height of about 1.4 m
- The Smart Chime doubles as an 87 dB siren and repeats the Zigbee signal, and Hue's guide says not to plug it into an extension lead
A new transformer can be a plug-in adapter, which Hue's guide says goes indoors, or go on a fused spur from an existing circuit; for a spur, ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. JACK treats a transformer on a spare way in the consumer unit as a new circuit and does not book it.
UK doorbell transformers explainedWhere should Hue Secure cameras point?
GOV.UK's domestic CCTV guidance says data protection law applies once a camera or video doorbell captures people beyond your boundary, so each device is set up with that in mind:
- Cameras pointed at your own entrance, garden and drive, keeping the street and the neighbours' windows out of view as far as the spot allows
- Activity zones, which come with a Hue Secure plan, drawn round your own ground
- Audio recorded only if you need it, one of the questions on the GOV.UK checklist
- Your part afterwards, where a camera does see beyond your boundary: a notice that recording is in place, neighbours told, footage deleted once it is no longer needed, and requests from anyone recorded answered
In a flat, a camera on a shared corridor or an outside wall needs the freeholder's or managing agent's written agreement before anything is fixed.
How do Hue Secure devices work with your Hue lights?
The Secure contact sensor runs on a CR2 battery that lasts about two years, fixes to an indoor door or window with adhesive or screws, and needs a Hue Bridge. Around it:
- With a Bridge, the doorbell can turn on Hue lights when it sees motion
- Alarms can flash your Hue lights and sound the Smart Chime's siren, even without a plan
- One Smart Chime works per doorbell without a Bridge, up to 12 with a Bridge and up to 50 with a Bridge Pro
- Every phone that should get alerts is added before the pro leaves, and the alarm is tested once with you
Hue Secure devices compared: power, rating and job
From each device's Philips Hue UK page and Hue's doorbell guide, read on 1 November 2026.
| Hue Secure device | Power | Rating or output | What the job involves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Secure 2K Wired Camera | Mains adapter, 100–240 V in; Class III | Camera IP65; adapter IP20 | A socket in reach and a lead route, indoors or out |
| Secure wired camera (1080p) | Plug-in | IP65; -20 to 45 °C | A socket and a fixing, or the desktop stand |
| Secure battery camera | Built-in battery; Hue lists 7–8 hours to charge | IP65; -20 to 45 °C | Wall or ceiling, on the mount in the box, where you can reach it to recharge |
| Secure Flood Light Camera | Mains, 220–240 V; Class I (earthed) | Light IP44; camera IP65 | Replacing an outside light, with a Hue Bridge; electrical work |
| Wired video doorbell | Bell transformer, 12–24 V AC, 10 VA or more | IP54 | Bell wiring, often a new transformer; the old chime retired |
| Secure smart chime | Plug-in, not on an extension lead | 87 dB; repeats Zigbee | A socket in the hall or on the landing |
| Secure contact sensor | CR2 battery, about 2 years | Indoor only | Adhesive or screws on a door or window; Hue Bridge required |
What does each Hue Secure plan add?
From Hue's UK plans page and its doorbell guide. The devices work without a plan; a plan adds history and zones.

|---|---|---|---|
| No plan | 24 hours, free | Not included | Live view, notifications, light and sound alarms |
| Basic | 30 days, per camera | Included | A 30-day Basic trial comes with each new camera or doorbell |

How is Philips Hue installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Hue job from the products and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
Whether the job touches your wiring matters more than how many lights there are. Fitting B22 or GU10 bulbs, setting up a Bridge and plugging in lamps, Play bars or a lightstrip is set-up work. Ceiling lights, Perifo track, wall switch modules and mains outdoor lights are electrical work on your existing circuits, priced for the isolating, connecting and testing each one needs.
Then the home itself: a heavy fitting that has to go into a joist, a high or sloping ceiling, a two-way landing that needs a module at both switches, old cable with no earth, or a long garden run for low-volt lights. On a high ceiling or a long fitting, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Several Hue jobs, and devices from other brands, go on one booking for one fixed price.
You buy the Hue products; JACK does not sell them. Accessories the job needs, such as a deeper back box, an in-use cover for an outdoor socket or aluminium channel for a strip, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site, which suits a whole-house Hue fit.
How it works
Step 1
List the products and add photos
Name the Hue products you have, or paste the order, and photograph where each goes: the existing light and ceiling, the switch that runs it, the outside wall for garden lights, and your router.
Step 2
Accept one fixed price, then book a day
A vetted pro prices the whole list from your photos, and any part the job needs is agreed at cost up front. Only once you accept that price do you book, picking a day that suits you, with evenings and weekends where pros offer them.
Step 3
Fitted, connected and handed over
Power isolated before any light or switch is touched, each item fixed, connected and tested, then added to your Bridge with rooms and scenes set up with you.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a battery Philips Hue Secure doorbell?
Not in the UK: Hue's doorbell is wired only. Where the bell wiring is weak or missing, Hue's guide gives a plug-in adapter as one example of a suitable transformer, which needs no work on your fixed wiring.
Does the Hue Secure doorbell work with Apple Home?
Hue's pages disagree. The UK product page lists Apple HomeKit among compatible systems, while Hue's doorbell set-up guide says Apple Home and Home secure video are not supported, so plan on the Hue app for the doorbell itself.
Do Hue Secure cameras need a Hue Bridge?
Only some of them: Hue's UK pages say the Secure Flood Light Camera and the Secure contact sensor need a Bridge, while the pages for the wired, 2K and battery cameras list no such requirement. The Wired video doorbell works without one, though Hue's guide says a Bridge gives it full functionality, such as switching on your lights.
Do I have to pay for a Hue Secure plan?
No. Without one you keep live view, alerts, light and sound alarms and a day of free video history; Basic and Plus add longer history and activity zones.
How much does Hue Secure installation cost in London?
Each device is priced from your photos and its power route, and the total is fixed in the JACK app before you book. The floodlight camera is priced as electrical work, a new transformer is added at cost and agreed before you book, and as a guide smart home work hired by the hour typically costs £45–£95 per hour.
