eufy Doorbell Transformer and Chime in UK Homes

Updated

eufy's UK and EU wiring guide is blunt: its wired doorbells want 16–24 V and do not work with the original chime. Its battery doorbells ask for less, by eufy's own comparison table. This guide sets each eufy doorbell against the bell transformers common in London homes.

In short

It depends on the model. The Video Doorbell E340 wires to an existing bell transformer at 8–24 V and more than 10 VA, keeps its battery fitted and can ring your existing chime; the S4 Wired needs 16–24 VAC at 10 VA or more and ships with a plug-in Chime 2, and eufy's older wired doorbells need 16–24 VAC at 30 VA and do not work with the original chime. A JACK pro in London reads the label on your transformer first and, where it falls short, fits a new one on the same supply or a fused spur; a transformer on its own new consumer-unit way is a registered electrician's job, which JACK does not book.

What does eufy ask of a UK bell transformer?

Two figures, depending on whether the doorbell has a battery:

  • Battery doorbells that can be wired (the E340, the S330 dual-camera and the older 2K Battery): 8–24 V at 10 VA or more (more than 10 VA, says the E340's UK page), which charges the battery; the E340 keeps its pack fitted
  • Video Doorbell C31: battery or bell wiring, but 24/7 recording and 5-second pre-roll need a 16–24 V, 30 VA transformer
  • S4 Wired Video Doorbell: no battery mode, and 16–24 VAC at 10 VA or above, a figure eufy gives on its Irish store but not its UK page
  • Earlier wired doorbells (2K, 2K Pro, 1080p and Dual 2K Wired): 16–24 VAC at 30 VA or above

For its wired doorbells, eufy says UK and EU bell transformers usually give 8, 12 or 24 V, tells you to wire to the 24 V terminals, and says to upgrade a transformer that cannot give 24 V; its UK example is a VEMER unit rated 230 V in, 12–24 V out.

Where is the bell transformer in a London home?

The pro finds it and reads its label before anything is ordered. It is usually:

  • On the DIN rail in the consumer unit, sitting among the breakers like one more module
  • Hidden in the chime itself, on chimes fed straight from the mains, so the pro isolates that supply before opening the cover
  • A separate unit elsewhere, such as under the stairs or by the meter
  • Missing altogether, where the old bell was a battery or wireless kit

Read two numbers: the volts, which must sit in eufy's range, and the VA (volts times amps), which must reach eufy's minimum. Many British multi-tap 8, 12 and 24 V transformers share about 8 VA across all their terminals, below the 10 VA eufy asks of battery doorbells.

Which eufy doorbells keep the old chime?

eufy's models split four ways:

  • Rings it: the E340, whose UK page lists an existing chime as compatible, and the older 2K Battery, with the chime type set in the eufy app
  • Mechanical only: the S330 battery doorbell, marked 'not digital' in eufy's comparison table
  • Until you want 24/7: the C31 rings an existing chime, but eufy says it will need to be bypassed for continuous recording
  • Never: the battery-only C30, which eufy says is not compatible with an existing chime, and eufy's older wired doorbells, which eufy says do not work with the original chime

eufy's S4 pages are silent on old chimes, and the S4 ships with a Chime 2. A bypass bridges the old chime out without removing it, and the pro photographs the wiring first so it can be wired back in later.

What rings indoors once the old chime is out?

A plug-in eufy chime, with no wiring at all:

  • Chime 2 (the 'Simple Chime' on eufy's UK store): 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, 10 tones and up to 80 dB. eufy lists it as fully compatible with the S4, S330, E340, C30 and C31, not with the older wired doorbells, and it does not ring for motion
  • MiniBase Chime: a 2.4 GHz plug-in chime eufy lists for the E340, C31 and C30
  • For those three, a HomeBase S280 or S380, an Alexa speaker or a Google one can ring too
  • The older wired doorbells (T8200 to T8203): the plug-in indoor chime eufy put in their box, since eufy lists Chime 2 as incompatible with them and the MiniBase Chime as not for older doorbells

Chime 2 needs the eufy app on 5.2.10 or later, and a HomeBase S380 on 3.7.1.6 or later if it pairs through one.

What does the pro do when the transformer falls short?

Starting with the options that leave your mains alone:

  • Leave a battery doorbell on its battery: the E340, C31 and S330 need no wiring at all
  • For a wired doorbell that will not power on, check for 16–24 VAC at 30 VA, then bypass the chime with the jumper, as eufy's troubleshooting steps suggest
  • Swap the transformer like-for-like on the same supply: it counts as a replacement, which Part P does not make notifiable
  • Feed a new transformer from a fused spur on a circuit you already have: adding to an existing circuit away from a bath or shower is not notifiable either
  • A transformer on its own new consumer-unit way is treated by JACK as a new circuit, so it goes to a registered electrician and JACK does not book it

Where the pro works on the 230 V side, you are left a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. A transformer, chime or wedge the job needs is agreed and added at cost before you book.

A few photos decide the doorbell's power route

The pro picks the route from photos and fixes the price before you book. Jobs are in London only. Send:

  • The transformer label, sharp enough to read the volts and the VA figure
  • The chime, with any make or model label readable
  • A wide shot of the door and frame from outside, since a eufy doorbell goes at about 1.2 m and may need its 15° wedge
  • The eufy model and its T-number, such as T8214 for the E340

The doorbell itself is yours to buy; JACK sells no devices.

Which eufy doorbell runs on your bell wiring?

Taken from eufy's UK product pages, the comparison table in eufy support and the UK and EU wiring article, checked on 31 October 2026.

The S4 figure is from eufy's Irish store. Against an 8 V, 8 VA bell transformer, which many British homes have, every 16–24 V figure means a new transformer, and every 10 VA figure asks for a little more than that transformer gives.

How eufy installation is priced

A vetted pro prices your job from the eufy model, photos of where each device goes and what power is there now, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.

The power and the walls move the price more than the device does. A battery doorbell on a brick reveal, or a SoloCam on a fence post, is a smaller job. An S4 Wired doorbell on a new transformer, a HomeBase moved to the middle of the house with a hard drive fitted, a Floodlight Camera E340 in place of an outside light, or four PoE cameras cabled through solid brick and a loft all take longer, and the price reflects that.

The eufy kit is yours to buy, since JACK sells no devices. A stronger transformer, a Chime 2, a wedge, a floodlight's weatherproof box or extra Cat cable is agreed with you and added at cost before you book, and several devices go on one booking for one price. Where parking has to be paid for, that is added at cost and agreed before you book too.

Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, smart home work is typically £45–£95 per hour, and electrical work such as a floodlight camera £55–£110 per hour. For a multi-camera system or a PoE NVR, a full-day booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.

Frequently asked questions

Is my UK bell transformer strong enough for a eufy doorbell?

Only if it meets your model's figure. Battery models such as the E340 need 8–24 V and more than 10 VA, and many British bell transformers give about 8 VA. The S4 Wired needs 16–24 VAC at 10 VA or more and the older wired models 30 VA, so an 8 V or 12 V unit is replaced.

Will my eufy doorbell work with my existing chime?

Some will. The E340 lists an existing chime as compatible, the S330 battery doorbell works with a mechanical one, and the C31 rings one until it is set up for 24/7 recording, when the chime is bypassed. The C30 cannot ring one and pairs with a Chime 2, a MiniBase Chime or a HomeBase instead, while eufy's older wired doorbells came with their own plug-in chime and the S4 Wired ships with a Chime 2.

Why does my wired eufy doorbell show a solid red light?

eufy treats it as a power problem. Its first check is that the transformer gives 16–24 VAC at 30 VA or more; after that it says to tighten the wires, reset the doorbell and use the jumper to bypass the chime.

Do I need an electrician to wire a eufy doorbell?

Usually not. Bell wiring is extra-low voltage, and in England replacing a bell transformer on the same supply, or feeding one from a fused spur, is not notifiable. Only a transformer on its own new consumer-unit way, which JACK treats as a new circuit, needs a registered electrician.
