eufy PoE and NVR Camera Installation in London
Updated
eufy's PoE systems are the nearest thing in its range to traditional CCTV: one network cable per camera carries power and video to a recorder with a hard drive, so nothing needs charging. A vetted JACK pro plans the cable routes through brick, loft and garage, fits the cameras and NVR and sets up recording, for a fixed price before you book.
In short
A vetted Jack All Trades (JACK) pro in London installs eufy's NVR Security System S4 Max, S4 and NVR E50 kits: each PoE camera takes one Cat cable to the NVR or a PoE switch, which powers it, and the NVR records 24/7 to a hard drive, with 2 TB fitted on the S4 systems and room for up to 16 TB. The S4 Max and E50 four-camera kits come with 18 m cables, and eufy rates a PoE Cam E50 run at up to 100 m. This is extra-low voltage data cabling rather than a new mains circuit, so the cameras need no outdoor socket.
Send the kit name, a photo of each wall where a camera will go, where you would like the NVR (it needs a socket and a cable to your router), and how the house is built: loft access, a garage, cavity or solid walls. A rough sketch with distances helps the pro plan cable lengths.

Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.
What is in a eufy PoE system?
eufy's UK store lists three systems and a handful of add-on cameras:
- NVR Security System S4 Max: four PoE Cam S4 bullet-and-pan-tilt cameras on an 8-port NVR; its own guide is above
- NVR Security System S4: two 4K turret cameras and two bullet pan-tilt cameras on an NVR, also with 2 TB fitted and room for 16 TB
- NVR E50: an 8-port recorder that expands to 16 channels, for the PoE Cam E50 with its 2K and 4K lenses and 5× zoom
- Add-on cameras: the PoE Cam S4, the PoE Cam E40 (a 4K bullet, IP67) and the PoE Cam E41 (a 4K turret, IP65)
eufy says the S4 Max's NVR can be run from the eufy app, its web portal, or a screen plugged in by HDMI. You buy the kit; JACK does not supply devices.
How far can a PoE cable run, and is 18 m enough?
Cable length is where a London house and a eufy box disagree most often:
- eufy rates a single cable to the PoE Cam E50 at up to 100 m, which is also the usual ceiling for one Ethernet run
- The S4 Max and the E50 four-camera system each come with four 18 m cables; from a front wall to a recorder in the back bedroom or loft of a terrace, 18 m is often short once the cable goes up and around
- Where 18 m will not reach, the pro brings longer outdoor-grade Cat cable, agreed with you and added at cost before you book, and cuts each run to length
- eufy sells an outdoor junction box made for the PoE Cam S4, E40 and E41, plus corner and pole mounts, where a camera cannot sit flat on the wall
How does the cable get through solid brick, lofts and garages?
In London the route is usually up, not across:
- Solid brick: the solid wall of a Victorian or Edwardian house, about 225 mm thick, is drilled through with a long masonry bit, and the hole sleeved and sealed so water cannot track in
- Lofts: cameras under the eaves often cable straight up into the loft, where a PoE switch or the NVR can go if there is a socket; the pro checks how hot the loft gets, since the recorder holds a hard drive
- Garages and outbuildings: a run along the garden wall to a garage is clipped high, and put in conduit wherever it could be knocked
- Indoors: cables follow skirting, coving or the inside of built-in cupboards, not the middle of a wall
- Flats and leasehold houses: outside walls usually belong to the freeholder, so drilling them needs their agreement in writing first
If a long cable pull through a loft needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature.
How many cameras can the NVR take, and how big a drive?
The recorder's channels and drive set how far the system can grow:
- Each bullet-and-pan-tilt camera on the S4 Max counts as two of the NVR's channels
- A PoE switch takes the recorder up to 16 channels, eufy says, and it has to have a spare port and enough PoE power for each camera on it
- The PoE Cam S4's page notes that a PoE NVR, switch, injector and DC adapter are 'required (not included)', so an add-on camera needs one of them to power it
- Drive: the S4 systems ship with 2 TB, and both the S4 recorder and the NVR E50 take up to 16 TB; the pro fits a larger drive you have bought and formats it
Is a eufy PoE system electrical work?
Mostly not, and the line is worth knowing before you book:
- PoE cable carries extra-low voltage power and data from the NVR or switch; in England, work outside the three notifiable kinds is not notifiable, though it must still be done safely and to BS 7671
- The NVR plugs into an ordinary indoor socket, so it changes nothing on your fixed wiring
- A new outdoor socket, or a new spur for a socket near the NVR, is electrical work: it is priced at the electrical-work rate, needs 30 mA RCD protection, and comes with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
- Running a new circuit from the consumer unit is notifiable, so that part goes to a registered electrician, and JACK does not book it as part of the camera job
Do outside cameras need planning permission, and what about privacy?
Four or more cameras on a house raise two questions the pro will go through with you:
- Planning: the Planning Portal says permission is not normally needed for home security cameras, but the permitted development rules for them (Class F) exclude listed buildings and set limits, including at least 2.5 m of height, no more than four on one side and none within 10 m of another, so check with your council before putting several on one wall
- Privacy: once the cameras capture the street or a neighbour's garden, GOV.UK's domestic CCTV guidance applies, so aim them at your own property, tell your neighbours and keep footage only as long as you need it
How eufy installation is priced
A vetted pro prices your job from the eufy model, photos of where each device goes and what power is there now, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
The power and the walls move the price more than the device does. A battery doorbell on a brick reveal, or a SoloCam on a fence post, is a smaller job. An S4 Wired doorbell on a new transformer, a HomeBase moved to the middle of the house with a hard drive fitted, a Floodlight Camera E340 in place of an outside light, or four PoE cameras cabled through solid brick and a loft all take longer, and the price reflects that.
The eufy kit is yours to buy, since JACK sells no devices. A stronger transformer, a Chime 2, a wedge, a floodlight's weatherproof box or extra Cat cable is agreed with you and added at cost before you book, and several devices go on one booking for one price. Where parking has to be paid for, that is added at cost and agreed before you book too.
Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, smart home work is typically £45–£95 per hour, and electrical work such as a floodlight camera £55–£110 per hour. For a multi-camera system or a PoE NVR, a full-day booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
How it works
Step 1
Send the kit and the spots
Name the eufy model or kit (the T-code on the box helps) and add photos of each wall, door or light it is going on, plus the transformer label and chime for a wired doorbell and a photo of your router.
Step 2
See the price, pick a time
A vetted pro prices the job from what you sent, with any transformer, chime, junction box or cable listed at cost. Book when you are happy with it; evenings and weekends are available when pros have them.
Step 3
Fitted, paired and handed over
The pro updates the HomeBase, pairs each device, fixes it at the right height, sets motion and privacy zones and shows you round the eufy app. You follow it all in the JACK app.
Frequently asked questions
Do eufy PoE cameras need a socket outside?
No. Each camera takes its power down the same Cat cable that carries its video, from the NVR or a PoE switch indoors. Only the NVR needs a socket, plus a cable to your router.
Can I add more cameras to a eufy NVR S4 Max?
Yes, up to 16 channels with a PoE switch, counting each bullet-and-pan-tilt camera as two. The pro checks the switch's ports and power budget against your cameras before you buy one.
Will the PoE Cam E50 work with my HomeBase or another brand's recorder?
No. eufy says the PoE Cam E50 works only with a eufy NVR, not with HomeBase 2, HomeBase 3 or other makers' recorders, and the PoE Cam S4's page says it requires the eufy NVR S4.
Where should the eufy NVR go?
Indoors, somewhere dry and ventilated with a socket and a network cable to the router, and central enough to keep the camera runs short. An under-stairs cupboard, a utility room or a boarded loft with power can all work, as long as it does not get very hot.
Can I keep my battery eufyCams when I move to an NVR?
Usually, yes, through eufy's Wi-Fi Module, which moves cameras from a HomeBase 2 or 3 to the NVR in one step and links up to 16 Wi-Fi cameras and 32 sensors to it. Only four of those cameras can stream continuously, devices that are not supported need updating first, and the NVR needs firmware V1.3.1.8 or later.
Do I need an electrician for a eufy PoE system?
No, not for the cameras or the data cable, since PoE is extra-low voltage and not notifiable. A new socket would be electrical work, and only a new consumer-unit circuit needs a registered electrician, which JACK does not book as part of the job.
Is a whole eufy PoE system a full-day job?
Often, for four cameras with cable runs through brick and a loft. A full day with one pro is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site, or the pro gives a fixed price for the whole system in the JACK app before you book.
