eufy NVR Security System S4 Max Installation in London

Updated

The NVR Security System S4 Max is listed on eufy's UK store under kit code E8E00. It is a wired system: four PoE Cam S4 cameras (T8E00), each a 4K bullet with a 2K pan-tilt-zoom camera, take power and data over one Ethernet cable each from an 8-port recorder holding a 2 TB hard drive. A vetted JACK pro in London plans the cable routes, drills and runs them and sets the system up, for a fixed price in the app before you book.

In short

Yes. A Jack All Trades (JACK) pro in London installs the eufy NVR Security System S4 Max: four PoE cameras, each powered and connected by its own Ethernet cable from the recorder, with four 18 m cables in the box. The recorder plugs into an ordinary socket near your router, and the cables it feeds through brick, loft or garage carry extra-low voltage with no new circuit, so the job is not notifiable under Part P.

How the NVR Security System S4 Max is powered and mounted

Power over Ethernet is what makes this a cabling job rather than an electrical one. The recorder plugs into a socket through its own adapter, joins your router on the short cable in the box, and sends power down each camera's Ethernet cable, so there is no mains supply at any camera. That cabling is extra-low voltage, and the current wiring standard, BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, now includes a section on Power over Ethernet.

The four cables in the box are 18 m each, and the route decides whether that is enough. Where the router sits at the front of a terraced house, a front camera's cable can climb into the loft and out at the eaves, while a back camera's has to cross the house, through a floor void or along an outside wall, and then through a solid brick wall that can be about 225 mm thick. Where a route is longer than 18 m, a longer cable is agreed and added at cost before you book.

Recording runs 24/7 to the 2 TB drive in the recorder, which takes up to 16 TB. You can watch on a TV or monitor through HDMI, in the eufy app or on the web portal. eufy counts each PoE Cam S4 as two channels because it has two cameras, and says the recorder expands to 16 channels through a PoE switch, so any extra cameras are planned with that in mind.

What the pro checks first

  • Where the recorder will live: by the router, near a socket and, if you want to watch on a TV, within reach of an HDMI screen
  • The route for each of the four cables, measured against the 18 m in the box
  • What each route passes through: solid brick, a loft, a floor void, a garage or a rear extension
  • Each camera position and what it will see, kept to your own property where possible
  • How far apart the cameras on the same wall are, against the planning limits set out below
  • Whether you own the walls, or need a freeholder's or landlord's agreement to drill them

What the pro does on the NVR Security System S4 Max

  • Cable routes agreed with you before any drilling, including where each cable enters the house
  • Holes through solid brick drilled with a fall to the outside, then sealed around the cable
  • Cables run through the loft, garage or floor void where possible, and clipped neatly where they have to run outside
  • Outdoor connections protected with eufy's waterproof covers, or an outdoor junction box if you bought one
  • Cameras fixed with the brackets from the box and aimed for their 4K view and tracking
  • Recorder connected to the router and a socket, the 2 TB drive checked and 24/7 recording confirmed for every camera
  • On long cable pulls or high eaves, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature

How the NVR Security System S4 Max installation goes

  1. 1Recorder position and each cable route walked with you, and the lengths checked against the 18 m cables
  2. 2Recorder connected to the router and power, and the system set up on its HDMI screen or in the eufy app
  3. 3Each camera tested on its cable at ground level before any drilling
  4. 4Holes drilled, cables run and every entry point sealed
  5. 5Brackets fixed and cameras mounted, with the outdoor connections covered
  6. 6Each camera's view, tracking and zones set, then 24/7 recording checked on the recorder
  7. 7A walk round with you to show live view, playback and the app

Before you book: what to send

  • Where your router is, with a photo of the space around it
  • A rough sketch, or photos, of where each of the four cameras should go
  • Whether you have loft access or a garage, and what is above the front door
  • Any extra kit you already have: a PoE switch, more cameras, longer cable, eufy's junction box or mounts
  • In a flat, a rented home or a listed building, the agreement or consent you have to drill the outside walls

Is wiring PoE cameras electrical work under Part P?

Not the kind Part P controls. This is how the S4 Max sits against the rules in England:

  • PoE runs carry extra-low voltage over data cable from a recorder that plugs into an existing socket, so nothing new connects to your consumer unit
  • The Planning Portal says a CCTV installation becomes notifiable when it includes a new electrical circuit; the S4 Max needs none
  • If the recorder has to sit where there is no socket, a new socket spurred from an existing circuit is not notifiable in England; it needs 30 mA RCD protection, and the pro leaves a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
  • A new circuit from the consumer unit would be notifiable and needs a registered electrician, which JACK does not book as part of this job

Do four cameras on one house need planning permission?

Normally not. The Planning Portal says planning permission is not normally required for a CCTV camera. The permitted development rules behind that, known as Class F, set limits that a four-camera kit can run into:

  • Each camera should be at least 2.5 m above the ground and stick out no more than 1 m
  • No camera should be within 10 m of another, which two cameras on a narrow terraced front can easily break
  • No more than four cameras on one side of the building, and no more than 16 on the whole building
  • Class F does not cover listed buildings, so ask the council before fixing cameras to one; the Planning Portal also says to check with the council in a conservation area

Class F also asks for each camera to be sited, as far as practicable, to keep its effect on the look of the building down. If your layout falls outside these limits, ask your council before the cameras go up; the pro can suggest positions that stay inside them.

Where does each S4 Max cable go in a London house?

Every house is different, but these are the routes the pro weighs up from your photos, and what each one depends on.

Camera positionLikely cable routeWhat the pro checks
Front, at first-floor or eaves heightUp into the loft from near the recorder, then out through the eaves or soffitLoft access, insulation to work around, and whether 18 m reaches
Over the front door or bayStraight through the front wall close to the recorderWall thickness, and any pipes or cables where the hole will go
Back of the house or a rear extensionThrough a floor void or the loft, or along an outside wall, then in through the brickWhether the run stays within 18 m, and a neat line for any outside section
Side returnAlong the side wall in clips or trunking from the nearest entry pointSound brick for the fixings, clear of drainpipes and windows
Attached garageThrough the shared wall or the garage ceiling from the house sideThe run back to the recorder, and where the camera can see the drive

Where a run is longer than 18 m, or a camera needs a junction box or a pole mount, the extra part is agreed and added at cost before you book. JACK does not sell the system itself: you buy it, and the pro installs it.

Frequently asked questions

Are the 18 m cables in the S4 Max box long enough?

Often, but not always. A camera on the front wall near the recorder is usually well within 18 m, while one at the back of a long extension may not be once the cable goes up, across and down again. The pro measures each route from your photos and, if one falls short, agrees a longer cable at cost before you book.

Can I add more cameras to the eufy S4 Max later?

Yes, within limits. eufy's add-on PoE Cam S4 requires its Network Video Recorder S4, and the recorder grows to 16 channels through a PoE switch, with each PoE Cam S4 counting as two. The battery eufyCam S4 is a different camera, and eufy lists its NVR as not currently supported by it.

Is it legal to record 24/7 on home security cameras in the UK?

Yes, but data protection rules apply once the cameras record beyond your boundary. The gov.uk domestic CCTV guidance asks whether continuous recording is really needed, says to keep footage secure and only for as long as necessary, and expects you to answer a request from someone for footage of themselves.

Can I watch the S4 Max cameras on my TV?

Yes. The recorder has an HDMI output with its own on-screen menus, and the box includes an HDMI cable and a USB mouse to use them. The same cameras also appear in the eufy app and on eufy's web portal.

How much does eufy NVR Security System S4 Max installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your NVR Security System S4 Max, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
