eufy eufyCam S4 Installation in London

Updated

The eufyCam S4 is eufy's model T8172, a battery camera that pairs a fixed 4K lens with a 2K pan-tilt-zoom camera and charges from a detachable 5.5 W solar panel. It is not the PoE Cam S4 that comes in eufy's NVR systems, and the two do not mix: eufy lists its NVR as not currently supported by the eufyCam S4. A JACK pro in London fits it, keeps its tracking to your own property and shows you the price in the app before you book.

In short

Yes. A Jack All Trades (JACK) pro in London installs the eufyCam S4 with no wiring at all: it runs on a battery charged by a 5.5 W solar panel, and it works without a HomeBase, storing clips on 32 GB built in plus a microSD card of up to 256 GB. eufy lists HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini and its NVR as not currently supported, so the pro either checks your Wi-Fi at the spot or adds the camera to a HomeBase S380 if you have one.

Power, storage and compatibility details come from eufy's UK store on anker.com/uk and from eufy's support articles, linked on each page. eufy adds features through firmware and retires models often, so check the model code on your device or box and send it with your request. How the eufyCam S4 is powered and mounted

One housing holds two cameras. The 4K bullet watches a wide 130° view, and when it sees movement the 2K pan-tilt camera can swing round to follow it, up to 50 m away by eufy's figure. Radar and PIR sensors decide what counts as movement, and red and blue lights with a 105 dB siren are there to warn people off.

Power comes from a battery kept topped up by the detachable 5.5 W panel. eufy sells a spare 10,000 mAh battery that swaps in, so a flat battery does not have to mean days without the camera. Because the panel is detachable, its angle is planned for the sun separately from what the camera needs to see.

Without a HomeBase, the S4 relies on your home Wi-Fi, so the signal at the mounting spot decides how well it works. We found no Wi-Fi band listed for it on eufy's UK page, so the pro tests the connection at the exact spot instead of assuming. Add a HomeBase S380 and the camera gains eufy's BionicMind recognition and up to 16 TB of storage; eufy adds that the S380 must run firmware V3.7.2.8 or later, or 24/7 recording and Snapshot will not work.

What the pro checks first

  • Whether you already own a HomeBase, and which: only the S380 works with this camera
  • The Wi-Fi signal and upload at the spot, tested with the camera itself
  • Where direct sun falls on the wall, and where the panel can sit to catch it
  • What the pan-tilt camera would see as it turns through 360°: the street, next door's garden, the windows opposite
  • The wall and the height, so the bracket goes into sound brick, render or timber where a ladder can reach to swap the battery

What the pro does on the eufyCam S4

  • Camera added to the eufy app, and to your HomeBase S380 if you have one, with the S380 firmware checked for 24/7
  • microSD card fitted if you want more than the 32 GB built in
  • Bracket fixed high on the wall and angled so the bullet covers your path, drive or garden
  • Solar panel mounted and angled for the most direct sun that wall gets
  • Activity zones drawn so tracking starts on your property, not with passers-by on the pavement
  • Siren and red-and-blue light warnings switched on or off as you choose

How the eufyCam S4 installation goes

  1. 1Camera charged and set up in the eufy app at ground level, on its own or on your HomeBase S380
  2. 2Signal checked with the camera held where it will go
  3. 3Bracket and panel positions marked, then drilled and plugged for the wall
  4. 4Camera mounted and the solar panel fixed and connected
  5. 5Bullet view and pan-tilt tracking checked in live view
  6. 6Zones, alerts and warnings agreed with you, then a walk test across the area it covers

Before you book: what to send

  • Whether it is a single camera or the 2-Cam Kit, and any spare battery or microSD card you bought
  • Which HomeBase you have, if any
  • A wide photo of the spot and of what it should watch: drive, garden or side gate
  • Where the sun reaches that wall during the day, if you know
  • Where your router is, so the pro can judge the Wi-Fi before arriving

A camera that turns and tracks needs tighter privacy settings

A fixed camera sees one view; the S4's pan-tilt camera can swing round to things you never meant to film. The gov.uk guidance on domestic CCTV is the checklist to set it up against:

  • Footage of people beyond your boundary, on the pavement or in next door's garden, brings you under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
  • gov.uk asks you to position cameras to keep intrusion to a minimum and to consider privacy filters; eufy allows up to two privacy zones per camera where the model supports them
  • Tell your neighbours and put up a notice, and do not post recordings on social media
  • Delete footage once it is no longer needed, and be ready for someone asking for a copy of footage of themselves

eufy warns that activity inside a privacy zone may still be partly recorded, so where the camera points matters more than the mask.

Frequently asked questions

Does the eufyCam S4 need a HomeBase?

No. It works on its own with 32 GB built in and a microSD slot for cards of up to 256 GB. A HomeBase S380 is optional and adds BionicMind and up to 16 TB of storage; eufy says the S380 needs firmware V3.7.2.8 or later for the S4's 24/7 recording and Snapshot to work.

Can I add the eufyCam S4 to my eufy NVR or HomeBase Mini?

No. eufy lists HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini and its NVR as not currently supported by the eufyCam S4. The camera made for eufy's NVR S4 systems is the PoE Cam S4, a wired camera, which is a different product despite the name.

How is the eufyCam S4 charged?

From its detachable 5.5 W solar panel, for which eufy quotes one hour of direct sun a day. eufy also sells a 10,000 mAh swappable battery as a spare, so you can swap in a charged battery rather than wait for a recharge.

How much does eufy eufyCam S4 installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your eufyCam S4, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
