eufy eufyCam S3 Pro Installation in London

Updated

The eufyCam S3 Pro is camera model T8162, sold on eufy's UK store in 2-Cam and 4-Cam kits (T8892 and T8894). It is not the older eufyCam 3, which eufy sold as the eufyCam S330. Each camera is a 4K solar battery camera that talks only to a HomeBase S380, on 2.4 GHz, so where the HomeBase stands matters as much as where the cameras go. A vetted JACK pro in London plans both and fits the kit, for a fixed price in the app before you book.

In short

Yes. A Jack All Trades (JACK) pro in London fits eufyCam S3 Pro kits, which need no wiring: each camera charges from its built-in solar panel and connects only to the HomeBase S380, on 2.4 GHz. The pro places the HomeBase on a shelf near your router, checks each camera's signal through the walls, and mounts the cameras 2–3 m up where the panel gets at least 1.5 hours of direct sun a day.

How the eufyCam S3 Pro is powered and mounted

Each S3 Pro is a battery camera with a solar panel built into its body, so there is no cable to run and nothing touches your electrics. eufy's figures are that the panel collects 450–900 mAh a day while the camera uses 100–200 mAh, but only if the panel actually sees the sun: eufy wants the whole panel in direct sun for at least 1.5 hours a day, and points to the external panels that come in the kits for spots tucked under eaves. A north-facing front, or a back wall shaded by next door's extension, changes where a camera or its panel can go.

The cameras never join your router. They connect to the HomeBase S380, which connects to the router and holds the recordings: 16 GB built in, or up to 16 TB with a 5 V 2.5-inch drive fitted inside. That makes the HomeBase's position the first decision in the job. eufy wants it on a table or shelf 1–1.5 m high and as far from the wall as possible, and the S380 has an internal cooling fan, so it belongs out in the open rather than shut in a cupboard.

London walls are where HomeBase systems run into trouble. eufy's signal guide names 240 mm brick as a wall that weakens the link and steel beams as something that blocks it, and a Victorian terrace can put a solid brick internal wall and the steel beam over a knocked-through room between a HomeBase at the front and a camera at the back.

What the pro checks first

  • That your kit includes a HomeBase S380, because an older HomeBase 2 will not run these cameras
  • Where the HomeBase can stand: near the router for its Ethernet cable, 1–1.5 m up and in the open
  • How many walls, and of what, lie between the HomeBase and each camera position
  • How much direct sun each wall gets, and whether a spot under the eaves needs the external panel
  • That each position is 2–3 m up, with somewhere safe for a ladder to stand
  • What each camera will see once mounted, so pavements and neighbours' gardens stay out of its zones

What the pro does on the eufyCam S3 Pro

  • Every camera charged to 100% before it goes up, as eufy's user guide asks
  • HomeBase S380 connected to your router with its Ethernet cable, and a hard drive fitted inside it if you bought one
  • Cameras paired with the HomeBase from within 1 m, then the signal read again at each planned position
  • Brackets fixed 2–3 m up into brick, render or timber, with each built-in panel turned to the sun
  • External solar panel mounted and cabled wherever a camera has to sit under an eave
  • Activity zones kept off public pavements and roads, which eufy also suggests as a way to save battery
  • Privacy zones, which eufy allows up to two of per camera on models that offer them, placed over windows and gardens that are not yours

How the eufyCam S3 Pro installation goes

  1. 1Kit unpacked and checked: cameras, HomeBase S380, external panel and brackets
  2. 2HomeBase placed, connected to the router and brought up to date in the eufy app
  3. 3Cameras charged, then paired one at a time within 1 m of the HomeBase
  4. 4Signal tested at each position before any drilling; a weak reading means moving the camera, or moving the HomeBase closer to it as eufy suggests
  5. 5Brackets fixed and cameras mounted, each angled with its panel facing the sun
  6. 6Detection, activity zones and privacy zones set with you, then a walk-past test for every camera

Before you book: what to send

  • Whether you have the 2-Cam or 4-Cam Kit, and any hard drive you bought for the HomeBase
  • A photo from the ground of each wall you want a camera on
  • Which way each of those walls faces, or a photo showing where the sun falls on it
  • Where your router is, and a shelf near it where the HomeBase could live
  • In a flat or rented home, written agreement to fix cameras to the outside wall

How far can an S3 Pro camera be from the HomeBase S380?

eufy's own guidance sets the limits, and solid London walls eat into them:

  • In most cases eufy expects a camera to work within about 9 m of the HomeBase, depending on wall thickness, obstacles and where the HomeBase sits
  • Its newer guidance calls 3–5 m ideal, allows no more than two walls between 5 and 15 m, and says that beyond 15 m the signal is likely too weak for a direct link
  • 240 mm brick, solid wooden doors and metal roller doors weaken the signal; 240 mm concrete, steel doors and steel beams block it
  • Where a camera is still out of reach, eufy's first fix is to move the HomeBase closer to it. eufy says the HomeBase can join your router over Wi-Fi, and that any range extender belongs between the HomeBase and the router, not between the HomeBase and the camera

The pro reads the signal at every position before drilling, so a weak link is solved on the day, not after the brackets are up.

Frequently asked questions

Will the eufyCam S3 Pro work with my HomeBase 2?

No. eufy says the S3 Pro only works with HomeBase S380 (HomeBase 3). The other way round does work: eufy's S380 compatibility list marks the eufyCam 2, 2C, 2 Pro and 2C Pro as compatible, so those cameras can join the S380 that comes with your S3 Pro kit.

Can the eufyCam S3 Pro be hardwired for 24/7 recording?

Not to the mains: it is a battery camera, and eufy's UK FAQ for the kit still says 'The 24/7 recording or Wired Mode is currently in development'. eufy's UK store does sell a 4.5 m USB-A to USB-C power cable for the S3 Pro, described as giving '24/7 recording with 4-second pre-roll', so check what your app offers before planning around it. On that cable the camera needs a USB power supply within 4.5 m.

Does the S3 Pro kit need a hard drive?

No. The HomeBase S380 holds 16 GB on its own. For a longer history, eufy lets you fit a 5 V 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or SSD of up to 16 TB inside it, and 12 V drives are not supported. Buy the drive before the visit and the pro fits it and formats it in the app.

Do you need an electrician to install the eufyCam S3 Pro?

No. The cameras run on their batteries and solar panels, so fitting them means drilling and fixing brackets, with no electrical work and nothing to notify under Part P. The HomeBase S380 plugs into a socket by your router; the skilled part is siting it and checking each camera's signal before any holes go in.

How much does eufy eufyCam S3 Pro installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your eufyCam S3 Pro, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
