How Far Can a eufy Camera Be From the HomeBase?
Updated
A eufyCam on a HomeBase, such as the eufyCam S3 Pro, talks to the HomeBase rather than to your router, so the distance and the walls between them decide the plan. Here is eufy's own range guidance, in metres, set against a typical London house.
In short
eufy says a camera should usually be within about 9 m (30 ft) of its HomeBase, with 3–5 m best, no more than two walls in the way between 5 and 15 m, and a signal likely too weak to connect directly beyond 15 m. It lists 240 mm brick, solid timber doors and metal roller doors as weakening the link, and 240 mm concrete, steel doors and steel beams as stopping it. A JACK pro in London tests each camera spot with the live view before drilling, and stands the HomeBase where eufy advises: for a HomeBase S380, on a table or shelf 1–1.5 m up, away from walls.

What range does eufy give for its HomeBase cameras?
Two sets of figures, an older rule of thumb and a newer, finer one:
- Older guide: in most cases within 30 ft (about 9 m), depending on the walls, what else is in the way and where the HomeBase sits
- eufyCam 3 set-up FAQ: the camera about 30 ft from the HomeBase, and the HomeBase about 50 ft (15 m) from the router in theory, both less through thick walls
- Newer signal guide: 3–5 m is optimal; up to two walls from 5 to 15 m; beyond 15 m the signal is likely too weak for a direct connection
- First sync to a HomeBase S380: within 1 m
Which London walls cut the signal?
eufy sorts materials into two groups, and London houses have both:
- Weaken: brick of about 240 mm, solid timber doors and metal roller doors
- Block: 240 mm concrete, steel doors and steel beams
- Houses built before about 1920 usually have solid walls, and a London terrace's solid wall of about 230 mm of brick comes close to the 240 mm eufy names once it is plastered
- A knocked-through ground floor can put a steel beam on the line from a front-room HomeBase to the garden
- Garages and garden offices add another wall at the far end, and sometimes a metal door
So a HomeBase at the front of a terrace can reach the front-door camera easily and still lose the one on the back extension.
Where should the HomeBase go?
eufy's placement rules shape what the pro can do around your router:
- HomeBase S380: raised 1–1.5 m on a table or shelf, well away from any wall, and out in the open because of its internal cooling fan
- HomeBase Mini: on a flat surface between the router and the cameras, not on a wall, and on a 5 V/2 A adapter, since eufy says 5 V/1 A is not enough
- At set-up, eufy's eufyCam 3 FAQ says the HomeBase must connect to the router by Ethernet
- Afterwards, a HomeBase 3 on firmware v3.1.5.1 or later can switch to Wi-Fi under General, About Device, Connection, Wi-Fi Setup, which lets it sit nearer the cameras
A closed cupboard hides the HomeBase but blocks both the signal and the fan's air.
Which checks come before any camera is drilled in?
On a HomeBase system the cameras follow the HomeBase:
- Where the router is and whether an Ethernet cable can reach a good shelf, since eufy says the HomeBase must be cabled to the router during set-up
- Each camera spot's distance from the HomeBase, and the walls, doors and beams between them
- Each camera synced beside the HomeBase, then held at its spot with the live view running before any hole is drilled
- For the eufyCam S3 Pro: 2–3 m up, where the built-in panel will see 1.5 hours or more of direct sun daily
What if a camera is out of range?
In order of how much each option changes your set-up:
- Move the HomeBase somewhere more central, on Ethernet or, for a HomeBase 3, on Wi-Fi
- Add a mesh system or a 2.4 GHz extender roughly halfway, as eufy suggests
- Move the camera to a spot with fewer walls between, often the back wall of the house rather than the end of the garden
- Use a camera that does not need the HomeBase, such as the eufyCam S4, if your Wi-Fi reaches the spot
A garden office with its own power and network point may suit eufy's PoE and NVR cameras, which run on Ethernet rather than radio.
The HomeBase plan starts from your photos
One fixed price in the JACK app before you book covers the hub and every camera. JACK covers London only. Send:
- Where the router is, and where the HomeBase could stand
- Each camera position, photographed from a distance that takes in the wall, the height and what stands between it and the house
- Which HomeBase you have (S380, Mini, Professional S1 or an older HomeBase 2) and which cameras
The cameras and HomeBase come from you, as JACK sells no hardware. A hard drive, extender or extra mount is agreed and added at cost before you book.
Book a eufy HomeBase setupWhat should you expect at each distance from a eufy HomeBase?
Based on eufy's distance and signal guides. Your own walls decide the result, which is why the pro tests each spot.
| Between camera and HomeBase | eufy's guidance | In a London house |
|---|---|---|
| Within 1 m | Where a camera should be while syncing to a HomeBase S380 | Pairing on a table beside the HomeBase first |
| 3–5 m, clear line | Optimal | A front-wall camera with the HomeBase in the front room |
| Up to about 9 m | Where eufy's older guide places most cameras | Most runs through one room or one wall |
| 5–15 m, up to two walls | Workable | A back-wall camera from a central HomeBase, if the walls are not solid brick or steel |
| 5–15 m, more than two walls | Beyond eufy's two-wall limit | Move the HomeBase, or add an extender or mesh point |
| Beyond 15 m | Likely too weak for a direct connection | A long garden or detached garage: a relay point, a different camera or a different HomeBase spot |
| Through 240 mm brick, solid timber or a metal roller door | Weakens the signal | Solid party and back walls, garage doors |
| Through 240 mm concrete, a steel door or a steel beam | Blocks the signal | A beam over a knocked-through room, a steel side door |
eufy gives its older figure as 30 ft; 9 m is the metric equivalent, rounded down.
How eufy installation is priced
A vetted pro prices your job from the eufy model, photos of where each device goes and what power is there now, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
The power and the walls move the price more than the device does. A battery doorbell on a brick reveal, or a SoloCam on a fence post, is a smaller job. An S4 Wired doorbell on a new transformer, a HomeBase moved to the middle of the house with a hard drive fitted, a Floodlight Camera E340 in place of an outside light, or four PoE cameras cabled through solid brick and a loft all take longer, and the price reflects that.
The eufy kit is yours to buy, since JACK sells no devices. A stronger transformer, a Chime 2, a wedge, a floodlight's weatherproof box or extra Cat cable is agreed with you and added at cost before you book, and several devices go on one booking for one price. Where parking has to be paid for, that is added at cost and agreed before you book too.
Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, smart home work is typically £45–£95 per hour, and electrical work such as a floodlight camera £55–£110 per hour. For a multi-camera system or a PoE NVR, a full-day booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
Frequently asked questions
How far can a eufy camera be from the HomeBase?
eufy's guidance is 3–5 m for the best signal, about 9 m (30 ft) in most cases, and no more than 15 m with at most two walls between. Past 15 m, eufy expects the link to be too weak to connect directly.
Can the eufy HomeBase 3 work on Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet?
Yes, after set-up. The HomeBase starts on an Ethernet cable to the router, and eufy says a HomeBase 3 on firmware v3.1.5.1 or later can then switch to Wi-Fi in its settings.
Can I mount the eufy HomeBase on a wall?
Not by eufy's guidance. eufy says not to mount the HomeBase Mini on a wall but to lay it flat between the router and the cameras, and it places the HomeBase S380 on a table or shelf 1–1.5 m up, as far from walls as possible.
Does a eufy HomeBase need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?
It uses 2.4 GHz only: eufy's eufyCam 3 FAQ says the HomeBase and the eufyCam 3 support 2.4 GHz networks, not 5 GHz. During set-up the HomeBase is on an Ethernet cable rather than your Wi-Fi, so the band matters mainly if a HomeBase 3 is later moved onto Wi-Fi, when the pro checks that the router's 2.4 GHz band is switched on.
