eufy S4 Wired Video Doorbell Installation in London
Updated
The S4 Wired Video Doorbell is new in 2026, and eufy's UK store titles it eufy S4 3K Wired Video Doorbell with Chime 2 (UK listing e82153f1). It runs only from bell wiring at 16–24 VAC, so in many British homes the transformer has to change before it goes up. A JACK pro in London checks what is on your wall, sorts the power, pairs the Chime 2 from the box and sets up 24/7 recording, for a fixed price shown in the JACK app before you book.
In short
Yes. A JACK pro in London installs the eufy S4 Wired Video Doorbell, which has no battery mode: eufy says it needs existing doorbell wiring at 16–24 VAC and 10 VA or more, which many British bell transformers do not reach, so a new transformer is often part of the job. The Chime 2 in the box is the indoor chime, and eufy's S4 pages do not say whether an existing chime keeps working.

How the S4 Wired Video Doorbell is powered and mounted
Unlike eufy's older wired doorbells, the S4 works with the current hubs. The earlier wired family, the 2K, 1080p, 2K Pro and Dual (T8200 to T8203), cannot join a HomeBase S380, while the S4 pairs with the S380, HomeBase Mini, HomeBase Pro S1 and eufy's NVR. It also records around the clock to its own 4 GB on the doorbell, so a hub adds Apple HomeKit and ties it in with eufy cameras rather than being needed to record.
Power decides the job. eufy wants 16–24 VAC at 10 VA or more from the bell wiring, and the doorbell's small battery only rides out a power cut. For British and European homes, eufy's wiring article expects a bell transformer with 8, 12 or 24 V outputs, puts its wired doorbells on the 24 V one, and suggests a VEMER 230 V to 12–24 V unit where an upgrade is needed. A multi-tap transformer rated around 8 VA in total still cannot give 10 VA on its 24 V tap.
The picture is a square 180° by 180°, so from a terrace doorstep it takes in far more than the person at the door. Expect the pavement and the doors on either side to be in the frame until the zones are set.
What the pro checks first
- The transformer label against 16–24 VAC and 10 VA; on a multi-tap unit the VA figure is shared between the 8, 12 and 24 V terminals
- Where the transformer is: on the rail in the consumer unit, in its own box, or inside a chime fed with 230 V
- That the cable at the door is the thin extra-low-voltage bell pair, not a mains cable someone has reused
- Which Wi-Fi band reaches the step better, since the S4 can use 2.4 or 5 GHz, and whether your upload gets near eufy's 8–12 Mbps
- A socket indoors for the Chime 2, within Wi-Fi range and somewhere you will hear it
What the pro does on the S4 Wired Video Doorbell
- A transformer that falls short is replaced on its existing supply, or a new one is fed from a fused spur off an existing circuit, with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for that mains work
- The old chime disconnected and bypassed, as eufy's UK and EU wiring article advises for its wired doorbells (the S4 pages say nothing either way), with Chime 2 taking over indoors
- Angle checked on your phone once the S4 is powered, before the fixing screws are fully tightened
- Chime 2 plugged in and paired; eufy lists app version 5.2.10 or later for it
- Joined to your HomeBase if you have one; for Apple HomeKit that has to be an S380 or MindBase
- Activity zones, and privacy zones where the app offers them, set to keep the pavement and neighbouring doors out before the first 24/7 recording
How the S4 Wired Video Doorbell installation goes
- 1Voltage at the bell wires checked against 16–24 VAC before the old push comes off
- 2Where it falls short, the circuit isolated and the transformer changed by the route agreed before booking
- 3Old chime disconnected and bypassed, and the bell wires at the door made ready
- 4Fixing spot chosen with you for the wide view, then drilled and plugged for brick or render, or screwed into timber
- 5S4 connected and fixed, powered up and added to the eufy app on 2.4 or 5 GHz
- 6Chime 2 plugged in indoors and paired, with a test press from the door
- 724/7 recording confirmed on the doorbell's own storage, and the S4 added to your HomeBase if there is one
- 8Activity and privacy zones set with you, then a walk up the path to test alerts
Before you book: what to send
- A readable photo of the transformer label, or of the consumer unit if you think it is on the rail there
- A photo of your current chime with its cover on, and its make if known
- Photos of the door and frame from the pavement, showing the bell push
- Which HomeBase you have, if any, and whether you want Apple HomeKit
- The S4 is yours to buy, as JACK supplies the fitting and not the device; a replacement transformer is agreed with you and added at cost before booking
What does a 180° doorbell mean for your neighbours?
The gov.uk guidance on domestic CCTV says UK data protection law applies once a camera captures people beyond your own property, and a doorbell this wide is likely to. Before the first recording, the pro and you go through:
- Privacy zones, where the app offers them: eufy allows up to two per camera or doorbell, shown as black squares, and says activity inside one may still not be kept out of a recording entirely
- Activity zones drawn around your step and path, so passers-by on the pavement are not recorded as events
- Whether you need sound recorded at all, a question the gov.uk checklist asks
- Telling the households either side, and putting up a sign at the door, both of which gov.uk suggests
Once the doorbell is set, what it records and how long you keep it is yours to manage; gov.uk says footage should be deleted once it is no longer needed.
eufy local storage, subscriptions and privacy settingsWill the doorbell power in your house run the S4?
eufy's figure for the S4 is 16–24 VAC at 10 VA or more. Set against what is often on the wall in London homes, from eufy's Irish S4 page and UK and EU wiring article, checked 31 October 2026:
| What is on your wall | Against 16–24 VAC, 10 VA | What the pro does |
|---|---|---|
| A plain 8 V bell transformer, often around 8 VA | Too low on volts and on VA | Replaces it on the same supply, or fits a new one on a fused spur |
| A multi-tap transformer with 8, 12 and 24 V terminals | 24 V is in range; the VA is shared across the terminals, so the label decides | Uses the 24 V terminals if the rating reaches 10 VA, and replaces it if not |
| A chime that takes 230 V with its transformer built in | Unknown until the cover is off, and opening it is mains work | Isolates the circuit first, then moves the doorbell supply to a suitable transformer on the same feed |
| A wireless or battery chime and no bell wire | No supply at the door | Adds a transformer on a fused spur and runs bell cable where that can be done neatly; if not, a battery eufy doorbell such as the E340 or C30 suits the door better |
| A transformer that could only go on a new way in the consumer unit | Treated by JACK as a new circuit, notifiable under Part P | Not booked through JACK: a registered electrician does that part |
Read your own label before buying a transformer: the VA rating is the number most often missing from a quick look.

Will the eufy S4 wired doorbell ring my existing chime?
eufy does not say. Neither its UK nor its Irish S4 page mentions an existing chime, and eufy's general UK and EU wiring article says its earlier wired doorbells do not work with the original chime and should bypass it. The S4 comes with Chime 2, so the pro plans on that ringing indoors and agrees what happens to the old chime before the visit.
Can the eufy S4 doorbell run on batteries?
No. eufy describes the S4 as wired only, with a small built-in battery that is an emergency backup during power cuts and no battery or solar mode. A door with no bell wiring needs a supply adding first, or a battery eufy doorbell instead.
Do I need a HomeBase for the eufy S4 doorbell?
Not to record. The S4 keeps 24/7 recordings on 4 GB inside the doorbell with no monthly fee. A HomeBase S380, Mini or Pro S1 links it with eufy cameras, and Apple HomeKit needs an S380 or MindBase.
Is the S4 the same as the older eufy 2K Wired doorbell?
No. The 2K Wired (T8200) and the rest of that wired family ask for 16–24 VAC at 30 VA and cannot join a HomeBase S380. The S4 asks for 10 VA or more and works with the S380, so a transformer that ran an older eufy wired doorbell properly already meets the S4's figure.
How much does eufy S4 Wired Video Doorbell installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your S4 Wired Video Doorbell, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
