eufy Video Doorbell C31 Installation in London
Updated
The Video Doorbell C31 is model T8223, sold on eufy's UK store as Video Doorbell C31 – 2K, Wired & Battery, with a 4:3 picture that eufy says takes in your whole front door area. It can run on its battery, sit on your bell wiring, or be wired for 24/7 recording, and that last set-up needs a far bigger transformer than many British homes have. A JACK pro in London helps you pick, fits it and sets it up, and the price is fixed before you book.
In short
Yes. A JACK pro in London installs the eufy Video Doorbell C31 on its quick-release battery or on your bell wiring. eufy says its 24/7 recording and 5-second pre-roll work only from a 16–24 V, 30 VA transformer with the existing chime bypassed, so you choose between keeping the old chime and recording around the clock; if the chime goes, a Chime 2 or MiniBase Chime rings indoors instead.

How the Video Doorbell C31 is powered and mounted
The C31 has three set-ups, and the first decision is which one you want. On its battery it needs no wiring. Connected to your bell, it keeps the existing chime among its options. Wired to a 16–24 V transformer of 30 VA, it records all day and night and keeps the five seconds before each motion event, but only once the old chime is bypassed.
Thirty VA is a lot to ask of a British bell circuit. Many bell transformers give 8 V at about 8 VA, so the 24/7 set-up usually means a new transformer, either where the old one was or on a fused spur. eufy's box includes jumpers for the existing chime, extension wires, a 15° wedge and a positioning card for the screw holes.
Recordings go to a microSD card in the doorbell or to a HomeBase 2 or S380. If a MiniBase Chime becomes the indoor chime, eufy's guide still has the card go in the doorbell rather than the chime.
What the pro checks first
- Which of the three set-ups you want, because that alone decides whether the transformer and chime change
- The transformer rating against 16–24 V and 30 VA, eufy's condition for 24/7 and pre-roll
- What your chime is, and whether you are happy to swap it for a plug-in Chime 2 or MiniBase Chime
- How strong the 2.4 GHz signal is at the door, since a doorbell recording continuously leans on it all day
- Whether you have a microSD card, or a HomeBase 2 or S380, ready for the recordings
What the pro does on the Video Doorbell C31
- For 24/7, the old chime bridged out with a jumper from eufy's box and the bell circuit tested afterwards
- Transformer upgraded to 16–24 V at 30 VA or more where the 24/7 set-up needs it, on the old supply or a fused spur
- Bracket at 1.2 m above the ground, with the 15° wedge if the door is set back or the path comes in at an angle
- microSD card formatted in the eufy app before the first recording
- Chime 2 or MiniBase Chime plugged in where you will hear it and paired to the doorbell
- Pre-roll and 24/7 switched on in the app and checked against a real recording
How the Video Doorbell C31 installation goes
- 1Set-up agreed with you: battery, wired with the old chime, or wired for 24/7 with the chime bypassed
- 2Battery charged, microSD card fitted and the C31 added to the eufy app on 2.4 GHz
- 3For 24/7, the supply circuit switched off and the transformer swapped or added as agreed
- 4Jumper fitted at the chime to bypass it, or the chime left in circuit for the wired set-up that keeps it
- 5Holes marked through eufy's positioning card at 1.2 m, drilled and plugged, and the bracket fixed with the wedge if needed
- 6Bell wires connected, the doorbell fitted and the power turned back on
- 7Indoor chime paired, 24/7 and pre-roll confirmed, then a test press and a walk-up with you
Before you book: what to send
- Which set-up you want, or a note asking the pro to advise from your photos
- A photo of the transformer label and one of the chime with its cover on
- A photo of the door, the frame and the wall either side, so the wedge and fixings can be planned
- The socket you would plug a Chime 2 or MiniBase Chime into
- You supply the C31; any transformer, Chime 2 or MiniBase Chime is priced at cost and agreed before you book
What rings indoors once the C31's chime is bypassed?
Going 24/7 takes the old chime out, so something else has to sound in the hallway. eufy lists these for the C31:
- Chime 2, a plug-in chime with 10 tones; the C31 is one of three eufy doorbells that can use it on a different Wi-Fi network
- MiniBase Chime, a plug-in 2.4 GHz chime with 8 tones
- A HomeBase S280 or S380 already in the house
- An Alexa or Google smart speaker
Chime 2 needs eufy app version 5.2.10 or later, and with a HomeBase S380 in the system, HomeBase firmware 3.7.1.6 or later.
eufy doorbell transformer and chime in UK homesWhich C31 set-up suits your door?
The same doorbell behaves three ways, according to eufy's UK page, its C31 guide and its doorbell comparison, checked 31 October 2026:
| Set-up | Power | Your existing chime | Recording |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | The quick-release battery, charged off the wall | Not used; a Chime 2, MiniBase Chime, HomeBase or smart speaker rings instead | Event clips to microSD or a HomeBase |
| Wired, chime kept | Your existing bell wiring, at 8–24 V and 10 VA or more | Listed by eufy as a chime option | Event clips; eufy ties 24/7 and pre-roll to the next row |
| Wired for 24/7 | A 16–24 V transformer of 30 VA, often a replacement | Bypassed, as eufy's UK FAQ says it must be | 24/7 recording with 5-second pre-roll |
The pro reads your transformer before promising which row your house can have.

Can the eufy C31 record 24/7 in a UK house?
Yes, once it is powered by a 16–24 V transformer of 30 VA and your existing chime is bypassed, which is eufy's condition for both 24/7 and pre-roll. Many British bell transformers are well under 30 VA, so a new one is usually part of the job.
Will the C31 still ring my old chime?
It can, but not alongside 24/7. eufy lists the existing chime among the C31's options and says it has to be bypassed for 24/7 and pre-roll, so if you want continuous recording, a Chime 2 or MiniBase Chime plugs in indoors instead.
Do I need an electrician to fit a bigger transformer for the C31?
Not a registered electrician, in most homes. Swapping the old transformer on its existing supply, or adding one on a fused spur from an existing circuit, is not notifiable in England, so a JACK pro can do it and leaves a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for the mains side. If the only home for it is a new way in the consumer unit, JACK treats that as a new circuit for a registered electrician and does not book that part.
How much does eufy Video Doorbell C31 installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Video Doorbell C31, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
