Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Pro Installation in London

Updated

Formerly sold as Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen); Ring renamed it Wired Doorbell 4K Pro on 5 August 2026, and the UK store calls it Wired Video Doorbell 4K Pro. It is not the 2021 Video Doorbell Pro 2. The UK store sells it hardwired, with a DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) in the box, or as a separate version with the Plug-In Adapter; the PoE version on Ring's help page is not on the UK store. A vetted JACK pro in London fits either UK version, bypasses the old chime and sets up the 4K picture, for a fixed price before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs the Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Pro on Ring's Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen) from an indoor socket, or on the DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) that comes in the UK hardwired box, fed from a fused spur. It cannot use a typical UK 8–12 V AC bell transformer, because it needs 16–24 VAC with 30–40 VA suggested, and the existing chime is bypassed and no longer rings.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.

How the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro is powered and mounted

On an AC transformer, Ring wants 16–24 VAC for the 4K Pro and suggests 30–40 VA, several times what a common British bell transformer delivers. In practice it runs from one of Ring's two 24 V DC supplies, each rated 12 W. The older DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Gen), the one that came in the Video Doorbell Pro 2 box, is not on Ring's list for this model, so if one is in your consumer unit it cannot simply be reused.

Ring's own hardwired method takes the chime out of circuit and puts the included transformer where the old one was, with the mains on its bottom L and N terminals and the doorbell on its positive and negative ones. The two routes a JACK pro uses keep the consumer unit closed. One is the Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen) from an indoor socket, whose cable goes on the doorbell's terminals either way round. The other is the DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) on a fused spur from an existing circuit, housed in an enclosure; that is not notifiable in England, and the pro leaves a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. A transformer on a new way in the consumer unit is a new circuit for a registered electrician, which JACK does not book as part of this job.

At the door, Ring's guide calls for a 6 mm masonry bit for the supplied anchors in brick or render, and fork connectors on the doorbell wires. For damaged or unsafe wiring behind the old bell push, Ring's own wording is to 'consult with a licensed electrician', and a JACK pro stops and re-plans at that point too. The Corner Kit is in the box; wedge kits, a Doorbell Retrofit Kit and an Interchangeable Faceplate are listed accessories.

What the pro checks first

  • Your transformer's label, which for this model must read 16–24 VAC to be any use
  • Whether a Ring DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Gen) is already fitted from an older doorbell, since the 4K Pro cannot use it
  • Upload speed: about 15 Mbps for this doorbell, added to every other Ring device on the line
  • Which version is in the box, hardwired or Plug-In Adapter, because it sets the route and the price
  • The condition of the bell wiring behind the old push
  • A cable route from the nearest socket that does not pass through a fire door

What the pro does on the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro

  • Existing chime bypassed by joining its wires with a wire nut, after a photo of how it was wired
  • Plug-In Adapter cable run along the skirting or through the frame and connected at the doorbell
  • Or the DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) fed from a fused spur in an enclosure, with the doorbell on its positive and negative terminals
  • Mounting plate fixed with Ring's anchors, and the Corner Kit added where the path comes in at an angle
  • Doorbell set up on the stronger Wi-Fi band and checked for a steady 4K Live View
  • Chime type set to None and a Ring chime or Echo set up to ring indoors

How the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro installation goes

  1. 1Supply route confirmed and the circuit isolated, with the main switch used if the breakers are unclear
  2. 2Chime cover off and the doorbell wires joined so the chime is out of circuit
  3. 3Plug-In Adapter cable routed and clipped, or the transformer mounted on its fused spur in an enclosure
  4. 4Fork connectors fitted to the doorbell wires at the door
  5. 5Mounting plate fixed, then the doorbell, security screw and faceplate
  6. 6Power back on and the doorbell set up in the Ring app
  7. 7Motion detection, privacy zones and a Ring chime configured, then a test visit

Before you book: what to send

  • The transformer label, and whether a Ring DIN rail transformer is already in the consumer unit
  • A picture of the consumer unit with its cover on
  • Photos of the door and frame from outside, and of the old bell push
  • The socket nearest the front door, photographed from inside
  • Your broadband's upload speed, from a speed test or your contract

Replacing a Video Doorbell Pro 2 with the 4K Pro: what changes?

On a door that already had a Pro 2, three things catch people out:

  • The Pro 2's DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Gen) will not run the 4K Pro, which Ring pairs only with the 3rd Gen rail or the Plug-In Adapter
  • If the Pro 2 ran from Ring's DC transformer, its chime was already bypassed, and it stays that way with the 4K Pro
  • The 4K Pro's Doorbell Retrofit Kit has a hole guide for the Pro 2, listed as Wired Video Doorbell Pro, so the reveal is not drilled twice

Ring guarantees security updates for the Pro 2, now listed as Wired Video Doorbell Pro, at least until 31 December 2030, so the upgrade is a choice rather than a deadline.

Which supplies will run the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro?

From Ring's UK product page and its DC transformer table. A supply on the 'no' side will not power this doorbell properly, even if it fits on the wall.

SupplyRuns the 4K Pro?Note
Ring DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen)YesIn the UK hardwired box; 24 V DC, 500 mA, 12 W
Ring Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen)YesPowered from an ordinary socket indoors, with a 6 m lead
Existing AC transformer at 16–24 VACYes, at 10–40 VA30–40 VA suggested, which few bell transformers reach
Typical UK bell transformer at 8–12 V ACNoToo low a voltage for this model
Ring DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Gen)NoSupplied with the Video Doorbell Pro 2; not on Ring's list for the 4K Pro
Third-party DC adapters, halogen or garden-lighting transformersNoRing rules these out for its wired doorbells

PoE+ appears on Ring's help page for this model, but the UK store sells only the hardwired and Plug-In Adapter versions, so JACK does not offer a PoE 4K Pro.

How is Ring installation priced in London?

A vetted pro prices your Ring job from the model and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a PoE version of the Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Pro in the UK?

Not on the UK store. Ring's help page lists a PoE box for the 4K Pro, but the UK store sells it hardwired or with the Plug-In Adapter only. For a doorbell powered over a data cable in the UK, Ring's model is the Wired Doorbell 4K Elite.

Can the 4K Pro use the transformer that is already in my consumer unit?

Only if it is a Ring DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen), or an AC transformer giving 16–24 VAC at 10 VA or more. A typical 8–12 V AC bell transformer and Ring's own 2nd Gen DIN rail are both ruled out, so the pro works from the Plug-In Adapter or the transformer from your box on a fused spur instead.

Does the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro need a fast broadband connection?

It needs upload more than download. Ring's product page gives 15 Mbps of upload for this doorbell, and its Wi-Fi guide says to add up the figures for every Ring device you run. A line that cannot carry that will show as a slow or broken Live View, however strong the Wi-Fi signal at the door.

How much does Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Pro installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Wired Doorbell 4K Pro, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
