Ring Chime Pro Installation in London
Updated
Listed as Chime Pro (2nd Gen) in Ring's UK help centre; the first-generation Chime Pro is no longer sold on ring.com, and Ring's guaranteed security-update period for it ended on 31 December 2024. It plugs into a socket, sounds indoors when your Ring doorbell is pressed and extends Wi-Fi for Ring devices on 2.4 and 5 GHz. A JACK pro in London tries it in different sockets to find the one that helps your doorbell most, on its own or on the same visit as a doorbell, for a fixed price before you book.
In short
Yes. A JACK pro in London sets up the Ring Chime Pro (2nd Gen), which plugs into an ordinary indoor socket with no wiring and sounds when a Ring doorbell is pressed, so it replaces a chime that a wired Ring doorbell has bypassed. It also extends Wi-Fi for Ring devices on 2.4 and 5 GHz, so the pro reads the doorbell's signal in the Ring app with the Chime Pro in different sockets before choosing one.

How the Chime Pro is powered and mounted
There is nothing to wire. The Chime Pro is a plug-in unit that goes into a standard socket and joins your network through the Ring app; from then on it sounds when a linked Ring doorbell is pressed, and its night light helps in a dark hallway. That makes it a natural companion for the Wired Doorbell 2K, 2K Plus and 4K Pro, which take the old chime out of the circuit, and for the Peephole Cam 2K, which has no chime connection at all.
Its second job is Wi-Fi. The Chime Pro extends Wi-Fi for Ring devices on 2.4 and 5 GHz, which helps when the router sits at the back of a house and the front door is two solid brick walls away. It cannot add broadband, though: Ring's upload figures, about 10 Mbps for each 2K device and 15 Mbps for each 4K one, still have to come down your line, so the pro checks the upload as well as the signal.
Where it goes is most of the job. Too close to the router and it adds little; too close to the door and its own link back to the router is weak. The pro tries it in sockets between the two, reading the doorbell's signal in the Ring app each time, and says so where a mesh system would serve the whole house better. Ofcom notes that extenders can reduce speed and responsiveness, while mesh systems improve coverage.
What the pro checks first
- The doorbell's signal in the Ring app before the Chime Pro goes in, as a baseline
- Which sockets lie between the router and the front door, and whether furniture hides any of them
- Your broadband upload, since the Chime Pro improves signal, not speed
- Which Ring devices should use it: the doorbell, and any cameras at the front of the house
- Whether a mesh system already covers the front door, in which case a plain Ring chime may do
What the pro does on the Chime Pro
- Chime Pro plugged in and added to your Ring account
- Doorbell, and any front cameras, moved onto the Chime Pro where that improves their reading
- Signal read again at the door and compared with the baseline
- Chime tone and volume chosen so it carries to the rooms you use most
- Night light set the way you want it
- Test press from the front door with the Chime Pro sounding
How the Chime Pro installation goes
- 1Baseline signal read for the doorbell in the Ring app
- 2Chime Pro plugged into a first-choice socket roughly between the router and the door
- 3Chime Pro set up in the Ring app and connected to your Wi-Fi
- 4Doorbell linked to the Chime Pro so it rings, and switched onto its network if that helps
- 5Readings compared, and the socket changed if another gives a better result
- 6Tone, volume and night light set, then a test press
Before you book: what to send
- Photos or a rough sketch showing the router, the front door and the sockets between them
- The Ring doorbell and cameras it will serve, by name
- A broadband speed test taken near the router
- Whether you already have a mesh system or other Wi-Fi extenders
Do you need a pro to set up a Chime Pro?
Not always: it plugs in, and the Ring app walks you through set-up. A pro is worth it when:
- It goes in on the same visit as a wired Ring doorbell that bypasses your old chime
- The doorbell's signal at the door is poor, and you want the socket chosen from readings rather than guesswork
- Several Ring devices need moving onto it and testing one by one
- You would rather have the tone, volume and alerts set and checked for you
You buy the Chime Pro; JACK does not sell devices. It can share a booking with the doorbell under one fixed price.
Ring video doorbell installation in LondonChime Pro, Chime (3rd Gen) or Chime Plus: which does what?
Ring's three current plug-in chimes, from its UK help pages. Any of them can stand in for a bypassed chime; only the Chime Pro is described as a Wi-Fi extender.

How is Ring installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Ring job from the model and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
Full pricing guide for Ring installationFrequently asked questions
Does the Ring Chime Pro boost Wi-Fi for my phone and laptop?
Ring describes it as extending Wi-Fi for Ring devices, so treat it as a fix for your doorbell and cameras rather than for the whole house. For phones and laptops, Ofcom points to mesh systems as the way to improve coverage.
Where should a Ring Chime Pro be plugged in?
In a socket between the router and the Ring device it is helping, close enough to the router to keep a strong link, and somewhere you can hear it. The pro settles it by reading the doorbell's signal in the Ring app with the Chime Pro in each candidate socket.
Is my first-generation Chime Pro still supported?
Ring no longer sells the Chime Pro (1st Gen) on ring.com, and its guaranteed security-update period ended on 31 December 2024, though Ring says it may keep providing updates for as long as it can. The Chime Pro (2nd Gen) is guaranteed updates at least until 31 December 2030.
How much does Ring Chime Pro installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Chime Pro, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
