Ring Wired Doorbell 2K Plus Installation in London
Updated
Formerly sold as Wired Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen); Ring renamed it Wired Doorbell 2K Plus on 5 August 2026, and the UK store calls it Wired Video Doorbell 2K Plus, sold hardwired or with the Plug-In Adapter. It needs 16–24 VAC, more than the 8–12 V AC Ring says a UK bell transformer usually gives, so the UK hardwired box includes Ring's DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen), and the old chime is always bypassed. A vetted JACK pro in London powers it from the Plug-In Adapter or from that transformer on a fused spur, for a fixed price before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs the Ring Wired Doorbell 2K Plus, which needs 16–24 VAC at 10–40 VA or Ring's own 24 V DC supply, so a typical 8–12 V AC bell transformer will not run it. The pro uses Ring's Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen) from an indoor socket, or the DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) from the UK hardwired box on a fused spur rather than a new way in the consumer unit, which needs a registered electrician and is not booked through JACK; either way the existing chime is bypassed and stops ringing.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.
How the Wired Doorbell 2K Plus is powered and mounted
Ring designs the 2K Plus to run on 16–24 VAC and says a UK bell transformer usually reads 8–12 V AC. That gap is why the UK hardwired box carries a DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen). Ring's own steps are to bypass the chime, fit that transformer where the old one was and connect it to the mains at its L and N terminals, which turns a doorbell job into work on your 230 V supply.
A JACK pro takes one of two routes. The Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen), sold separately or in the plug-in version of the doorbell, supplies 24 V DC from an indoor socket and leaves the fixed wiring alone; the trade-off is a 6 m cable that has to find its way to the door. Or the DIN Rail Transformer from the box goes on a fused spur from an existing circuit, which in England is not notifiable and ends with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. Giving it a new way in the consumer unit would be a new circuit for a registered electrician, and JACK does not book that.
The doorbell itself fixes to a plate over the bell wires, with the Corner Kit from the box where the path arrives at an angle. Ring's Doorbell Retrofit Kit for this model has hole guides for older Ring doorbells and can cover a European round junction box, which saves fresh holes in a brick reveal.
What the pro checks first
- What the existing transformer says: at 8 or 12 V AC it cannot run this model
- Where the transformer is, in the consumer unit, inside a mains chime or in its own box, which shapes the plan
- An existing circuit a fused spur could come from, and whether that circuit has RCD protection
- The socket nearest the inside of the front door, and a cable route for the Plug-In Adapter that avoids any fire door
- Which chime is on the wall, so it can be bypassed cleanly and reconnected one day
What the pro does on the Wired Doorbell 2K Plus
- Supply agreed with you before any tools come out: Plug-In Adapter, or the DIN Rail Transformer on a fused spur
- For the spur route: circuit isolated and proved dead, the transformer housed in an enclosure and fed from a fused connection unit
- For the adapter route: the cable clipped neatly from the socket and through the frame or wall where agreed
- Bell wires connected to the 24 V DC side, positive and negative, and the plate fixed over them
- Doorbell mounted, set up on the stronger Wi-Fi band and its chime type set to None
- A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate left with you for any work on the 230 V side
How the Wired Doorbell 2K Plus installation goes
- 1Power off at the consumer unit, using the main switch if the right breaker is not clearly labelled
- 2Chime cover removed and the doorbell wires taken off its terminals and joined, so the chime is bypassed
- 3Transformer fitted on its fused spur, or the Plug-In Adapter cable routed to the door
- 4Low-voltage side connected to the bell wires that run to the door
- 5Mounting plate fixed over the wires and the doorbell secured with its screw
- 6Power restored, the doorbell set up in the Ring app and the chime type set to None
- 7Ring chime or Echo linked and a test press heard indoors
Before you book: what to send
- A photo of the existing transformer label, wherever it is
- The consumer unit, photographed with its door shut so the breaker labels can be read
- The chime in the hall, and the socket nearest the front door
- Whether you bought the hardwired box or the Plug-In Adapter version
- Photos of the door and frame from outside and, in a flat or rental, the freeholder's or landlord's consent to the cable route
What happens to your old chime with a Wired Doorbell 2K Plus?
Ring says the existing chime must be bypassed and will no longer sound, whichever supply the doorbell uses. On the day that means:
- The chime's doorbell wires are taken off and joined with a wire nut, so it stays on the wall but out of the circuit
- A photo of the original wiring is kept, so the chime can be reconnected if the Ring doorbell ever comes down
- The doorbell's chime setting in the Ring app is None
- A plug-in Ring chime goes in a socket where the old one could be heard: Chime (3rd Gen), Chime Pro or Chime Plus, or an Echo
If the chime has a transformer built in and runs on 230 V, opening it is mains work, done with the circuit isolated.
Will a Ring doorbell ring my existing chime? How is the Wired Doorbell 2K Plus powered in a UK home?
Ring lists three kinds of supply for this model. What each means in practice, and who does it:
| Supply | What it involves | Mains work | Booked through JACK? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ring Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen) | A socket indoors supplies 24 V DC, and its 6 m cable runs to the door | None | Yes |
| DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) on a fused spur | The transformer from the hardwired box, fed from an existing circuit | Yes, but not notifiable; a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate is left | Yes |
| Existing transformer at 16–24 VAC, 10 VA or more | Uncommon, as UK bell transformers usually read 8–12 V AC; reused if the label shows it | None, as long as the mains side stays untouched | Yes |
| DIN Rail Transformer on a new way in the consumer unit | A new circuit from the consumer unit | Yes; treated as a new circuit, which Part P makes notifiable | No: it needs a registered electrician, and JACK does not book it |
Ring's UK store marks this doorbell 'Professional installation recommended' and suggests a qualified electrician with its DIN Rail Transformer where wiring is incompatible. Those are Ring's words; in England, Part P decides which work has to be notified.

Does the Ring Wired Doorbell 2K Plus come with a transformer?
Yes, if you bought the UK hardwired version: Ring's UK store lists a DIN Rail Transformer (3rd Gen) in that box, even though the help-centre page still describes Ring's transformers as sold separately. The Plug-In Adapter version comes with the adapter instead. Check your box before booking, because it decides which route the pro prices.
Can my old Ring DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Gen) power the 2K Plus?
Yes. Ring lists both the 2nd and 3rd Gen DIN Rail Transformers as compatible with the Wired Doorbell 2K Plus, unlike the 4K Pro, which takes only the 3rd Gen. If one is already fitted from an older Ring doorbell, the pro checks its output and connects the new doorbell to it.
Is the Wired Doorbell 2K Plus the same as the Ring Wired Doorbell Plus?
No. In Ring's help centre, 'Wired Doorbell Plus' is the filing name for the original Video Doorbell Pro, a much older model. The Wired Doorbell 2K Plus was sold as Wired Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) until August 2026. Give the pro the exact name from your box so the right parts are planned.
How much does Ring Wired Doorbell 2K Plus installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Wired Doorbell 2K Plus, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
