Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus Installation in London
Updated
Formerly sold as Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen); Ring renamed it Battery Doorbell 2K Plus on 5 August 2026, and the UK store calls it Battery Video Doorbell 2K Plus. It is not the earlier Battery Video Doorbell Plus without '(2nd Gen)'. It runs on a removable Quick Release Battery Pack, and Ring puts fork connector wire extenders and wire nuts in the box for hardwiring it. A vetted JACK pro in London fits it battery-only or on your bell circuit, for a fixed price you see before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London fits the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus on its removable Quick Release battery with no wiring, or connects it to your existing bell wires at 8–24 VAC so the pack keeps charging. Wired that way it can still ring a compatible mechanical or digital chime in the hall; on Ring's Plug-In Adapter instead, the chime is not used.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.
How the Battery Doorbell 2K Plus is powered and mounted
As it comes, the 2K Plus is a battery doorbell. The Quick Release pack comes out for charging on the USB-C cable in the box, and a second pack lets you swap one in rather than wait. With nothing wired, the mounting plate is the only fixing, so the doorbell can go on a brick reveal, a timber frame or the wall beside a uPVC door.
Where bell wire reaches the door, connecting it turns the battery into a buffer instead of the only supply. Ring's page accepts 8–24 VAC or 24 VDC at 8–40 VA, which suits many existing British bell transformers. The fork connector extenders in the box lengthen bell wires that end flush with the wall, and Ring asks for any extra chimes on the circuit to be bypassed by joining their Front and Trans wires, which is what the wire nuts are for.
Ring builds a 5° downward tilt into this doorbell. The Corner Kit in the box turns it towards a path that arrives from the side, and a wedge kit, sold separately, adds more tilt where the step sits well below the bell.
What the pro checks first
- Whether the bell wires at the door are long enough to reach the terminals, or need the extenders from the box
- The transformer's volts and VA against Ring's 8–24 VAC and 8 VA minimum for this model
- How many chimes the circuit drives, since Ring wants any second chime bypassed
- Which Wi-Fi band reads better at the door, 2.4 or 5 GHz
- What the fixing goes into beside the door: sound brick, render, timber or a uPVC profile with steel inside
What the pro does on the Battery Doorbell 2K Plus
- Quick Release pack charged and seated before the doorbell goes up, with a spare charged too if you bought one
- Mounting plate fixed with Ring's anchors in masonry or screwed into timber, and checked level
- Short bell wires lengthened with the supplied fork connector extenders
- Any second chime on the circuit taken out of use, so the doorbell drives one chime only
- Chime type picked in the app, or Automatic Chime Detection used and the result confirmed by ear
- Faceplate and security screw fitted, then a test press from the step
How the Battery Doorbell 2K Plus installation goes
- 1Battery pack charged on the supplied cable and the doorbell set up in the Ring app
- 2If it is being wired, the bell circuit switched off at the consumer unit before the old push comes off
- 3Wires extended where needed and connected to the doorbell's terminals
- 4Mounting plate fixed at about 1.2 m, with the Corner Kit behind it if the path comes in from the side
- 5Doorbell hooked on, the battery lifted out to reach the security screw, then the screw tightened and the battery and faceplate refitted
- 6Power back on, the chime type chosen and a ring heard in the hall
- 7Motion zones and privacy zones set with you, then a walk-up test
Before you book: what to send
- Photos of the front door from the street, taking in the brickwork or render on either side
- A photo of the existing bell push, and of the wires behind it if it is already off
- The transformer label, and the chime in the hall with its make if visible
- Whether you also bought a spare Quick Release pack, a Solar Charger or a Plug-In Adapter
- Where next door's front door and windows sit in relation to yours
What does a UK court case say about Ring doorbells and sound?
In Fairhurst v Woodard (County Court at Oxford, judgment 12 October 2021), the court examined a Ring Video Doorbell 2 alongside other Ring cameras. The lessons carry over to a 2K Plus on your door:
- The doorbell's video was held lawful, even though it took in some of the street
- Its microphone was the problem: tests found it picked up audio reliably to about 20 m, and the court held that recording sound at that range went beyond what was needed
- gov.uk's domestic CCTV guidance applies UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 to video doorbells once they capture people outside your boundary
- The Ring app lets you black out up to two areas per device with privacy zones; Ring says changing the audio setting requires a compatible Ring subscription
Ring's own wording is that setting up its devices in line with local law is the owner's responsibility. The pro shows you where the zones and the audio switch are before leaving.

Is the Battery Doorbell 2K Plus the same as the Battery Video Doorbell Plus?
Only if your box says '(2nd Gen)'. Ring renamed the Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) to Battery Doorbell 2K Plus in August 2026. The earlier Battery Video Doorbell Plus is a different model that connects on 2.4 GHz only and came with a micro-USB cable, so check the box or the Ring app before the visit.
Can the Battery Doorbell 2K Plus use the Quick Release Ultra pack?
Yes. Ring lists the Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack as compatible with the 2K Plus, alongside the standard pack that comes in the box. It swaps in the same way, so the pro can leave a charged spare ready for when the first one runs down.
Does the power need to be off to wire a Battery Doorbell 2K Plus?
Yes. Ring's guide has you switch off the power before touching the bell wires, even though they carry only a low voltage. The pro also checks whether the transformer is built into a mains chime, because opening that chime means working near 230 V.
How much does Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Battery Doorbell 2K Plus, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
