Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Installation in London

Updated

Formerly sold as Battery Video Doorbell (2nd Gen); Ring renamed it Battery Doorbell 2K on 5 August 2026, and the UK store calls it Battery Video Doorbell 2K. Its battery is built in rather than removable, so unless it is wired or on solar, every recharge means lifting the doorbell off its bracket. A vetted JACK pro in London fixes it to brick, render or timber, wires it to your bell transformer where the rating allows, and sets it up in the Ring app, for a fixed price before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K on its built-in battery with no wiring or existing doorbell needed, or connects it to your existing bell wires so the battery keeps charging. Hardwired at 8–24 VAC it can ring a compatible mechanical or digital chime, but its product page asks for a transformer of 10–40 VA, more than many UK bell transformers supply.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.

How the Battery Doorbell 2K is powered and mounted

The battery sits sealed inside the doorbell. Ring's set-up begins with a full charge over USB-C from a cable you supply, and every later charge follows the same routine: switch off any wired power, unclip the doorbell from its bracket, disconnect its wires if it has them, and charge it indoors. Run on battery alone, the bracket is the only thing fixed to the wall, at the 1.2 m height Ring suggests, with nothing behind it.

Wiring it to the bell circuit keeps that sealed battery topped up and lets the doorbell sound the chime in the hall. The catch is power rather than voltage. A British bell transformer at 8 or 12 V AC is inside the 8–24 VAC range, but this model's own page asks for 10 VA or more, and many older transformers are rated nearer 8 VA. Below 10 VA, the pro leaves the doorbell on battery or solar, or agrees a stronger transformer with you, added at cost, before booking.

Ring's guide for this model also says not to wire it to a DC-powered intercom system, which matters in converted houses where an old door entry panel shares the porch with the bell push. On brick or render the bracket goes up with a 6 mm masonry bit and Ring's anchors; into a timber frame the screws go in directly.

What the pro checks first

  • The VA figure on the transformer label, since this model's own page asks for 10 VA or more before it is hardwired
  • Whether the chime in the hall is one Ring lists as not compatible, such as the DETA C3500 or the Byron 720
  • The Wi-Fi reading at the door on both bands, because this doorbell can use 2.4 or 5 GHz
  • Whether a door entry panel near the bell push is DC-powered, which Ring rules out wiring this doorbell to
  • What the 140° view takes in from the step, including a neighbour's door on a shared path

What the pro does on the Battery Doorbell 2K

  • Battery charged to full over USB-C before set-up, from a cable you provide, since none comes in the box
  • Bracket fixed level at about 1.2 m, plugged for brick or render or screwed straight into timber
  • Where it is hardwired, the bell wires connected at the back of the doorbell and the chime type set to Mechanical or Digital
  • Rubber plug pushed firmly back into the charging port before the doorbell goes on, as Ring's guide for this model asks
  • Motion zones and sensitivity set so passing traffic does not wake it and drain the battery
  • A test press with the chime sounding, or with the alert arriving on your phone if it stays on battery

How the Battery Doorbell 2K installation goes

  1. 1Battery charged and the doorbell added to the Ring app on whichever band reads better at the door
  2. 2Old bell push taken off, or a fresh spot marked at about 1.2 m where there was none
  3. 3For a wired fit, power to the bell circuit switched off before the wires are touched
  4. 4Bracket drilled and fixed, any bell wires connected, then the doorbell hooked over the bracket and pressed until it clicks
  5. 5In-home chime setting matched to the chime on the wall, or left off on battery or solar
  6. 6Live View, a test press and a motion alert checked on your phone before the pro leaves

Before you book: what to send

  • A photo of the door and frame from outside, showing where the bell push is now
  • A close photo of the transformer label if you want it wired, sharp enough to read the VA
  • A photo of the chime in the hall, with its make and model if a label shows
  • Whether you have a USB-C cable and somewhere indoors to charge the doorbell
  • In a flat or a rented home, the freeholder's or landlord's agreement to fixing it to the frame or wall

Can the Battery Doorbell 2K go on a uPVC frame or a rented flat's door?

Usually, because with no wiring there is nothing to route through the frame. The options, from the least intrusive:

  • On the wall beside the door, which avoids screwing into a uPVC profile that normally has steel reinforcement inside
  • On the frame itself where it is wide enough, with a wedge or corner kit, bought separately, to angle it towards the path
  • On Ring's No-Drill Mount (2nd Gen), an adhesive plate made for the Battery Doorbell 2K, 2K Plus and 4K Pro; Ring asks for a smooth, even surface and recommends no more than one wedge or corner piece on it
  • In a flat or rental, only with the freeholder's or landlord's written agreement, and never with anything that stops a fire door closing on its self-closer

Frequently asked questions

Does the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K have a removable battery?

No. The battery is built in, so to charge it you switch off any wired power, take the doorbell off its bracket and connect a USB-C cable, which Ring does not include. The Battery Doorbell 2K Plus and 4K Pro use a removable Quick Release pack instead, which is worth knowing if the doorbell will sit somewhere awkward to reach.

Will an 8 VA bell transformer charge the Battery Doorbell 2K?

Not to the figure Ring gives for this model. The voltage of a typical UK bell transformer is inside the 8–24 VAC range, but this model's product page asks for at least 10 VA, even though Ring's general guide gives 5 VA for battery doorbells. A JACK pro works to the 10 VA figure: on a weaker transformer the doorbell can stay on battery or solar, or a stronger transformer is agreed with you and added at cost before you book.

Does the Battery Doorbell 2K connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

Yes. Unlike the Wired Doorbell 2K, which is 2.4 GHz only, the Battery Doorbell 2K is dual band, so it can join whichever band reaches your door better. It still needs about 10 Mbps of upload, Ring's figure for a 2K device, on top of any other Ring devices you run.

How much does Ring Battery Doorbell 2K installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Battery Doorbell 2K, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
