Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro Installation in London

Updated

Formerly sold as Battery Video Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen); Ring renamed it Battery Doorbell 4K Pro on 5 August 2026, and the UK store calls it Battery Video Doorbell 4K Pro. It records in 4K, uses radar for 3D motion detection, connects on Wi-Fi 6 and ships with Ring's Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack. A vetted JACK pro in London fits it on battery, on your bell wiring or on solar, and makes sure your broadband can carry 4K first, for a fixed price before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs the Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro on its removable Quick Release Ultra battery with no wiring, or hardwired to existing bell wiring at 8–24 VAC, where it can still ring a compatible mechanical or digital chime. As a 4K device it needs about 15 Mbps of upload and a good 2.4 or 5 GHz signal at the door.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.

How the Battery Doorbell 4K Pro is powered and mounted

Radar, 4K video and Wi-Fi 6 all draw on the battery, and a doorbell facing a busy London pavement wakes far more often than one down a quiet side path. That is why the pro asks early whether bell wire reaches the door: at 8–24 VAC and 5 VA or more, the wiring keeps the Ultra pack charged and drives a compatible chime as well. Without it, the pack lifts out for charging on the USB-C cable from the box.

Ring's guide for this model lets wedge or corner pieces be stacked behind the mounting plate, though it advises no more than two, and the Corner Kit is already in the box. So a doorbell set back in a Victorian porch can still be turned to face a gate at the side, and the built-in 5° downward tilt helps it see a parcel on the mat.

Solar is the third route. Ring's Solar Charger for battery doorbells fits behind the 4K Pro; Ring says three to four hours of direct sunlight a day keeps a battery doorbell charged for longer, and calls covered porches not ideal. Ring's separate Solar Panel can instead be placed up to 6 m away at a 45° angle, wherever the sun is better.

What the pro checks first

  • Upload at the router: about 15 Mbps for this doorbell alone, plus whatever other Ring devices already use
  • Signal strength at the door on each band, aiming for at least Ring's 'okay' range of -60 to -70
  • Whether bell wire reaches the door, and whether the transformer gives 8–24 VAC at 5 VA or more
  • Which way the path, gate and pavement run from the door, which decides whether a corner piece is needed
  • For solar, how many hours of direct sun the front of the house gets, and where a separate panel could go within 6 m

What the pro does on the Battery Doorbell 4K Pro

  • Ultra pack charged on the USB-C cable from the box before set-up
  • Mounting plate fixed at about 1.2 m, with up to two wedge or corner pieces where the angle needs them
  • Bell wires connected where present, with any second chime on the circuit bypassed
  • Deep Silver faceplate fitted and the security screw tightened
  • Radar motion settings and zones aimed at your path, not the pavement
  • 4K Live View checked on your phone at the door, then a ring heard inside

How the Battery Doorbell 4K Pro installation goes

  1. 1Upload speed and signal checked at the door before the plate is marked
  2. 2Doorbell added to the Ring app on the stronger band
  3. 3Power to the bell circuit switched off wherever the doorbell is being wired
  4. 4Mounting plate and any wedge or corner pieces fixed, plugged for brick or render
  5. 5Bell wires or solar lead connected, then the doorbell fitted and locked
  6. 6Chime type set to match the chime in the hall
  7. 7Motion detection tuned with you and a test visit walked from the gate

Before you book: what to send

  • A wide photo of the front door and porch, showing the path and the gate
  • A broadband speed test result, or the upload speed on your contract
  • The transformer label and the chime, if there is bell wire at the door
  • Whether you bought Ring's Solar Charger or Solar Panel, and which way the door faces
  • Anything else for the same booking, such as a Chime Pro or an outdoor camera

Should the Battery Doorbell 4K Pro be wired, on battery or on solar?

Ring lists all three for this model. How they compare on a London front door:

  • Battery only: no wiring at all, but the Ultra pack comes out for charging, and more often on a busy street
  • Hardwired to bell wire: 8–24 VAC at 5–40 VA keeps the pack charged and rings a compatible chime, provided the existing wiring and transformer are sound
  • Ring's Plug-In Adapter or DIN Rail Transformer: a 24 V DC supply where there is no usable transformer, from an indoor socket or a fused spur, with the chime type set to None
  • Solar Charger or Solar Panel: best on a door that faces south with open sky, and not under a deep porch

Any adapter, charger or panel the chosen route needs is agreed with you and added at cost before you book. You buy the doorbell; JACK does not sell devices.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro need 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. Ring's help page lists Wi-Fi 6 on both 2.4 and 5 GHz, so the pro uses whichever band gives the stronger reading at your door. What it does need is upload: Ring's Wi-Fi guide allows about 15 Mbps for each 4K device, added to the rest of your Ring devices.

Can the Battery Doorbell 4K Pro run on solar in London?

It can, with Ring's Solar Charger for battery doorbells behind it or Ring's Solar Panel up to 6 m away. Ring's guide points to three to four hours of direct sun a day, which a south-facing door without a deep porch can give. A north-facing terrace door or a covered porch is usually better wired, or left on the battery.

Is the Battery Doorbell 4K Pro the same as the Battery Video Doorbell Pro?

No. The Battery Video Doorbell Pro without '(2nd Gen)' is the earlier model, while the 4K Pro was sold as Battery Video Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) until August 2026. They even take different No-Drill Mounts, so tell the pro which one you have before ordering any mounting parts.

How much does Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Battery Doorbell 4K Pro, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
