Ring Outdoor Cam 4K Pro Installation in London

Updated

Formerly the Outdoor Cam Pro; Ring renamed it Outdoor Cam 4K Pro on 21 August 2026, and the UK store calls it Outdoor Camera 4K Pro. It is not the older 1080p Stick Up Cam Pro. Ring lists no battery for it, so it always needs a wired supply: a plug-in adapter, a hardwired kit or PoE+ over an Ethernet cable. A vetted JACK pro in London plans the power route with you and fits it, for a fixed price before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs the Ring Outdoor Cam 4K Pro, which always needs a wired supply: Ring's plug-in adapter into a socket, a hardwired kit on an existing circuit, or PoE+ power over one Ethernet cable from a PoE+ switch or injector. Ring's spec lists dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi and asks for about 15 Mbps of upload for 4K.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.

How the Outdoor Cam 4K Pro is powered and mounted

Which power route suits depends on what is near the spot. The plug-in adapter is the lightest job: no change to your wiring, only a cable to a socket, which on an outside wall usually means a run through a frame or wall to a socket indoors. Hardwiring takes the camera off an existing circuit at a junction box, which is electrical work and is where Ring's line about a qualified electrician applies. PoE+ sends power down a single Ethernet cable from a switch or injector indoors, so there is no mains voltage at the camera at all.

PoE is the route most people have not met before. Ring notes that many home routers do not provide PoE, so in most cases a PoE-capable switch or injector sits between the router and the cable. The run can be up to 100 m, enough for a garden studio at the end of a long London garden, and Ring prefers Cat6. If the camera keeps restarting by itself, Ring points to a supply that is too weak or a run that is too long.

On a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, getting any cable outside means a hole through solid brick, usually about 225 mm of it. The hole is drilled with a slight fall to the outside and sealed, so rain cannot track along the cable into the house.

What the pro checks first

  • Which version is in the box, plug-in or PoE, and whether you also bought Ring's hardwired kit, because each sets a different route
  • For PoE: whether your router supplies PoE (Ring says many home routers do not) and where a switch or injector can sit, near the router and a socket
  • The length of the cable run from that switch or injector to the camera, which has to stay within 100 m
  • For hardwiring: which existing circuit the supply would come from, whether the cable there is the round 3-core cable Ring's kit asks for or flat twin-and-earth that needs joining in a junction box first, and whether surge protection is in place, which Ring's kit guide requires
  • Upload speed: 15 Mbps for this camera alone, more with other Ring devices on the same broadband
  • If it replaces a Stick Up Cam Pro: that older camera used 5 GHz only on channels 100 and above, so the router's band and channel are checked again

What the pro does on the Outdoor Cam 4K Pro

  • Power route agreed with you before any drilling: plug-in, hardwired from an existing circuit, or PoE+
  • For PoE, the Ethernet cable run, terminated and tested end to end, with the switch or injector placed indoors
  • For an outside PoE fit, Ring's junction box method at the camera: cable gland on the Ethernet cable and the box sealed with silicone, since Ring marks its other PoE mounting methods for indoor use only
  • Bracket fixed at 2.5–3 m on brick, render or timber, and the camera angled for the 4K frame
  • On plug-in or hardwired power, the camera joined to whichever Wi-Fi band gives the better reading at the spot
  • Privacy zones set before the first recording, because a 4K picture shows a neighbour's front door in real detail

How the Outdoor Cam 4K Pro installation goes

  1. 1Route walked with you: where the camera goes, where the cable enters the house, and where the adapter, switch or injector will live
  2. 2Wi-Fi signal and upload checked at the spot in the Ring app
  3. 3Hole drilled through the wall or frame, the cable pulled through and the hole sealed
  4. 4Junction box and gland fitted at the camera end; for PoE, the cable terminated and tested
  5. 5Bracket fixed, the camera mounted and the angle set
  6. 6Power connected: adapter into the socket, switch or injector to the router, or the hardwired kit on the existing circuit
  7. 7Camera set up in the Ring app with motion and privacy zones, then a test alert

Before you book: what to send

  • Which version you bought (plug-in or PoE), and any hardwired kit, PoE switch or injector you already have
  • A photo of the wall where it is going, and one from inside showing where a cable could come through
  • Where your router is, with a rough distance in metres to the camera spot
  • For hardwiring, a photo of the nearest outside light or fused spur and of your consumer unit
  • Whether you own the wall, or need the freeholder's or landlord's agreement to drill it

Can a JACK pro hardwire the Outdoor Cam 4K Pro?

Yes, from an existing circuit. Hardwiring connects the camera to your mains, so where the supply comes from decides who can do it:

  • From an existing circuit, for example a fused spur or the supply to an existing outside light: not notifiable under Part P, and the pro leaves a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
  • Ring's hardwired-kit guide for the Outdoor Cam 4K Pro and Spotlight Cam 4K Pro asks for round 3-core cable with an outer diameter of 6–7 mm, a junction box on a wall or eave, a working earth and a surge protector, and rules out dimmer switches and timers
  • A brand-new circuit from the consumer unit is notifiable and needs a registered electrician; JACK does not book that as part of this job, which is why plug-in or PoE+ is often the simpler choice

Anything extra the route needs, such as an outdoor junction box or a PoE injector, is agreed and added at cost before you book. JACK does not supply the camera itself.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a PoE switch for the Ring Outdoor Cam 4K Pro?

Usually, yes, if you have the PoE version. Ring says many home routers do not provide PoE, so in most cases a PoE-capable switch or injector is needed. Ring lists PoE+ for this camera, so check that the switch or injector says PoE+ or 802.3at. You can buy it yourself, or the pro agrees one with you and adds it at cost before you book.

Is the Outdoor Cam 4K Pro the same as the Stick Up Cam Pro?

No. The Stick Up Cam Pro is an older 1080p camera that can run on a Quick Release battery or solar. The Outdoor Cam 4K Pro, sold as Outdoor Cam Pro until August 2026, records in 4K and always needs plug-in, hardwired or PoE+ power, so replacing one with the other usually means planning a new power route.

How much does Ring Outdoor Cam 4K Pro installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Outdoor Cam 4K Pro, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
