Ring Spotlight Cam 4K Pro Installation in London
Updated
Formerly Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen); Ring renamed it Spotlight Cam 4K Pro on 21 August 2026. It is neither the older Spotlight Cam Pro nor the newer Spotlight Cam 4K Plus. It comes as a plug-in, hardwired or PoE version, records in 4K and uses dual-band Wi-Fi. A vetted JACK pro in London fits whichever version you bought, on a wall or a ceiling, for a fixed price before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs all three versions of the Ring Spotlight Cam 4K Pro: plug-in (Ring's outdoor USB-C power adapter into a socket), hardwired (Ring says this needs an existing junction box) or PoE from a PoE+ switch or injector. There is no battery version, so it always needs one of those supplies, and Ring's spec lists 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi with about 15 Mbps of upload.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.
How the Spotlight Cam 4K Pro is powered and mounted
The three versions share a camera but not an installation. The plug-in version is the lightest: Ring's outdoor USB-C power adapter goes into a socket and its cable runs to the camera. The wired version comes with Ring's USB-C Hardwired Kit and, in Ring's words, requires an existing junction box, so it suits a wall or soffit that already has an outdoor supply. The PoE version takes its power over an Ethernet cable from a PoE+ switch or injector, and Ring covers it in its own installation guide.
Ring's spec says this camera can mount to a wall or a ceiling, which helps on many London houses. Under a porch roof, a bay soffit or the balcony above, the camera can hang from the ceiling and look out, which suits fronts where a wall fixing would sit too low or catch the weather.
If it replaces the older Spotlight Cam Pro, the power changes: that model took Quick Release batteries and could run on solar, while the 4K Pro is plug-in, wired or PoE only.
What the pro checks first
- Which of the three versions is in the box, because each needs a different route
- For the wired version: that a sound, weatherproof junction box with a supply already exists at the spot, as Ring requires
- For the wired version: that the supply is permanent, earthed and surge-protected, since Ring's hardwired-kit guide for this model rules out dimmers and timers and says not to install without a working earth or a surge protector
- For PoE: that the switch or injector is PoE+, where it can sit indoors, and that the cable run stays within 100 m
- Whether 5 GHz is usable at the spot; if this replaces a Spotlight Cam Pro, note that the older model only used 5 GHz channels 100 and above
- Wall or ceiling, and what the fixing goes into: brick, render, a timber soffit or a uPVC fascia
What the pro does on the Spotlight Cam 4K Pro
- Plug-in version: adapter cable run from the socket, clipped and sealed where it passes through the wall
- Wired version: camera connected at the existing junction box with Ring's Hardwired Kit, earth made, box closed and sealed
- PoE version: Ethernet cable run, terminated, tested and connected to your switch or injector
- Mount fixed to the wall or ceiling with fixings for that surface, and the camera aimed for the 4K view
- Siren and lights shown to you in the Ring app, with privacy zones set over neighbours' windows
- A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for any hardwired connection made on an existing circuit
How the Spotlight Cam 4K Pro installation goes
- 1Version confirmed and the supply agreed: socket, junction box or PoE switch
- 2Signal strength on 2.4 and 5 GHz and the upload speed read at the mounting spot in the Ring app
- 3For the wired version, the circuit isolated and proved dead before the junction box is opened
- 4Mount fixed to the wall or ceiling
- 5Power connected through the adapter cable, the Hardwired Kit or the PoE cable
- 6Camera mounted, set up in the Ring app and angled in Live View
- 7Motion zones, privacy zones and siren settings agreed, then a walk-past test
Before you book: what to send
- Which version you bought: plug-in, wired or PoE
- A photo of the spot, and for the wired version a photo of the junction box or outside light already there
- The socket nearest the spot for the plug-in version, or where your router is for PoE
- Whether it goes on a wall or a ceiling, and roughly how high
Which Spotlight Cam 4K Pro version suits your house?
The camera is the same in all three; what changes is what has to be at the spot and what the job involves.
| Version | Power at the camera | What the spot needs | Electrical side |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plug-in | Ring's Outdoor Power Adapter (USB-C) into a socket | A socket the cable can reach and a route through the wall or a frame | No change to your wiring |
| Wired | Ring's Hardwired Kit (USB-C) at a junction box | An existing junction box with a permanent, earthed supply | Work on an existing circuit, recorded on a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate |
| PoE | Power over an Ethernet cable | A PoE+ switch or injector indoors and a cable route of up to 100 m | Extra-low-voltage data cabling, not notifiable under Part P |
If there is no supply at the spot and the wired version would need a brand-new circuit, that is notifiable work for a registered electrician, and JACK does not book it as part of this job.
How is Ring installation priced in London?

Full pricing guide for Ring installationFrequently asked questions
Is the Spotlight Cam 4K Pro the same as the Spotlight Cam 4K Plus?
No. The Spotlight Cam 4K Plus is a separate, newer model that went on UK pre-order in October 2026, and Ring offers it with a battery; the 4K Pro has no battery version. Check the name on the box before booking, because the two install differently.
Can the Spotlight Cam 4K Pro go under a porch or soffit?
Yes. Ring's spec says the Spotlight Cam 4K Pro can mount to a wall or ceiling, and repeats that the hardwired version may go on either. Under a porch roof the pro checks that the ceiling is solid enough to fix into and that the porch edge does not cut off the view.
Do I need an electrician for the wired Spotlight Cam 4K Pro?
Not always. Ring's spec says the hardwired version needs an existing junction box and marks it 'Professional installation recommended'. Connecting at an existing junction box on an existing circuit is not notifiable under Part P, so a JACK pro can do it and leave a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. If a new circuit is needed to reach the spot, that is a job for a registered electrician, which JACK does not book as part of this job.
How much does Ring Spotlight Cam 4K Pro installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Spotlight Cam 4K Pro, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
