Ring vs eufy: What Is Different to Install
Updated
Ring and eufy sell doorbells and cameras that look alike, but they go in differently. This page compares what each needs from your wiring, walls and network, using the makers' own UK pages, and does not pick a winner.
In short
The main install differences are power and storage: Ring's Wired Doorbell 2K Plus and 4K Pro need 16–24 VAC or Ring's own 24 V DC supplies and bypass the old chime, while eufy's Video Doorbell E340 wires in at 8–24 V and can keep a compatible chime. Ring doorbells and cameras connect to your router with no hub and save recordings only with a Ring plan, while eufy keeps video on the device or a HomeBase, with cloud features optional. A JACK pro in London installs both brands, for a fixed price shown before you book.

Do Ring and eufy doorbells need different wiring?
Yes, and it shows in UK homes, where many bell transformers give only about 8 V:
- Ring's battery doorbells and Wired Doorbell 2K accept 8–24 VAC, but the 2K Plus and 4K Pro need 16–24 VAC, so on a typical UK system they take power from Ring's own 24 V DC DIN Rail Transformer or Plug-In Adapter
- eufy's E340 wires in at 8–24 V with more than 10 VA and keeps its battery fitted when wired; the C30 cannot be wired at all
- eufy's UK and EU wiring guide says its wired doorbells work on 16–24 V, from the transformer's 24 V terminals, with an upgrade if it cannot give 24 V
Ring warns that incompatible power sources can damage its doorbells, and its Wired Doorbell Pro guide rules out third-party DC adapters, so on a brand swap the pro checks the supply against the new model's figure.
Which brand keeps your old chime?
It depends on the model more than the brand. Ring's battery doorbells and eufy's E340 can keep a compatible chime, while Ring's Wired Doorbell 2K, 2K Plus and 4K Pro bypass it, and eufy's UK and EU wiring guide says its wired doorbells do not work with the original chime. eufy's S4 Wired Video Doorbell comes with a plug-in Chime 2 in the box, and the battery-only C30 does not use the old chime.
Will a Ring doorbell ring my existing chime?Do you need a hub?
This is the biggest difference on installation day:
- Ring doorbells and cameras connect to your router directly, device by device, over Wi-Fi or a network cable on PoE models; only Ring Alarm uses a base station, for its sensors
- eufy's eufyCam S3 Pro works only with HomeBase S380 (HomeBase 3), while the eufyCam S4 works without one and a HomeBase is optional for the E340
- HomeBase 3 is set up on an Ethernet cable to the router; eufy says it can move to Wi-Fi from firmware v3.1.5.1
- eufy calls 3–5 m between camera and HomeBase optimal, allows no more than two walls at 5–15 m, and says thick brick weakens the signal while 240 mm of concrete blocks it
In a solid-brick London terrace that range decides where the HomeBase goes. eufy's S3 Pro kit guide puts it on a table or shelf 1–1.5 m high, as far from the wall as possible, and eufy's signal guide says not to mount a HomeBase on a wall.
How far can a eufy camera be from the HomeBase?Where do the recordings go?
The two makers start from opposite ends:
- Ring saves recordings for up to 180 days with a Ring plan (Solo, Multi or Pro); without one, you get live view and alerts but no saved video
- eufy keeps video at home: 8 GB built into the E340 doorbell, a microSD card in some models, or a HomeBase S380 with 16 GB built in and room for a 2.5-inch drive of up to 16 TB
- eufy's UK pages add that cloud features, such as alerts with thumbnail previews, send video or previews to the cloud, and that optional features may need a subscription
Recording a street or shared hallway brings the same UK data protection duties with either brand.
eufy local storage, subscriptions and privacy settingsWho installs each brand in the UK?
The makers' own routes differ, and both word their electrical advice cautiously:
- For a fitted install, Ring sends UK buyers to Amazon Home Services, available in most of England by Ring's account; eufy runs no installation service in the UK at all
- Ring says of its hardwired 4K Pro that 'installation by a qualified electrician may be required in your area', and eufy says its Floodlight Camera E340 must be installed and wired 'by a licensed electrician' outside North America
- Neither phrase is the law in England, where the rule is Part P of the Building Regulations: a new circuit, a new or replacement consumer unit, or work near a bath or shower needs a registered electrician, and JACK does not book that work as part of the job
Can one booking cover Ring and eufy?
Yes. A JACK pro fits Ring, eufy or both on one visit, for a fixed price shown in the JACK app before you book; JACK covers London only. Send the exact models, photos of the door, transformer label and chime, and where the router and any HomeBase would sit. JACK sells neither brand; a transformer or chime the job needs is agreed and added at cost before you book.

How is Ring installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Ring job from the model and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
Power moves the price more than the model name. A battery doorbell or camera on a wall with a good signal is the lightest job. A wired doorbell brings in the bell transformer: if yours gives 8–12 V AC and the doorbell needs 16–24 VAC, the job includes fitting Ring's 24 V Plug-In Adapter or a transformer on a fused spur, plus bypassing the old chime. A floodlight cam is priced as electrical work on your outside-light circuit, including any change to how it is switched.
The wall and the height come next: solid brick, render, a narrow uPVC frame that needs a wedge or corner kit, or a camera 2.5–3 m up that needs a ladder or a tower. On a high eave, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature. Cable runs through brick or to a PoE switch add time, and so does each extra device, though every device can go on one booking for one fixed price.
You buy the device; JACK does not sell any. Accessories the job needs, such as a transformer, a Ring Chime, a wedge kit or an outdoor junction box, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work. For a big multi-device job, say a doorbell, three cameras and an alarm kit, a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ring or eufy easier to install?
Neither is simply easier; it depends on the model and your wiring. A battery doorbell from either brand needs no wiring. A wired Ring Plus or Pro doorbell, or a wired eufy doorbell, needs 16–24 V, more than the 8 V that many British bell transformers give, and a eufy camera system may need a HomeBase within range.
Does eufy need a subscription like Ring?
Not for local recording. eufy keeps video on the device or a HomeBase, and its UK store describes the HomeBase S380 as local storage with no monthly fee. Ring saves recordings only with a Ring plan. eufy's cloud features are optional, and some may need a subscription.
Can I swap a Ring doorbell for a eufy one on the same wiring?
Often, but check the power first. A Ring battery doorbell on the old bell transformer can usually give way to a eufy E340, though the E340 asks for more than 10 VA, which some British bell transformers do not give. A Wired 2K Plus or 4K Pro on Ring's 24 V DC transformer is a different case: eufy lists its wired doorbells at 16–24 V AC, so the pro checks the eufy model's own requirement before reusing that supply.
Can one pro install Ring and eufy devices in the same house?
Yes. The two run in separate apps and share no hub, so a JACK pro sets each up on its own terms and checks that the Wi-Fi reaches every device, on one visit for one fixed price.
