What Decides the Cost of Google Nest Installation in London?
Updated
A Nest Thermostat E on an old room thermostat's wires and a floodlight camera on first-floor brickwork are very different jobs. On JACK the price is fixed before you book, from your photos. This page shows what a pro weighs for each kind of Nest work in London, with no device prices, because you buy the Nest kit yourself.
In short
A Google Nest installation in London is priced on the work each device needs around it: a thermostat swapped at the wall on existing wiring, a doorbell on battery or bell wiring, a floodlight camera in place of an outside light, or wired Nest Protects replaced on the same circuit. JACK shows one fixed price in the app before you book, set by a vetted pro from the photos you send; hourly hire, as a guide, is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart-home work or £55–£110 per hour for electrical work. You buy the Nest devices, and any parts are agreed at cost before booking.

What moves the price of a Nest thermostat job?
Thermostat work is priced by what happens at the wall:
- A Nest Thermostat E: the Heat Link E goes on two wires at the old room thermostat, and the display sits on its stand near a socket
- A 3rd gen Learning Thermostat: the Heat Link goes where the programmer was, on a fused 230 V supply, with its heating and hot water relays on the existing switched lives
- A wall-mounted 3rd gen display, wired to the Heat Link's 12 V terminals on the old thermostat cable
- A fused spur where the Heat Link has no suitable supply, and S-plan or Y-plan wiring centre changes for a vented cylinder
Under JACK's rule, wiring at the boiler's own terminals and OpenTherm at the boiler are for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and unvented cylinder controls for a G3-qualified installer, so neither is part of a JACK booking.
What moves the price of a Nest doorbell?
Power decides most of it:
- Nest Doorbell (battery) on its battery: placement, the 20° wedge if the angle needs it, a Wi-Fi check at the door and app set-up
- The same doorbell wired to the existing bell wiring, with the chime set up in the app
- A transformer replaced like-for-like, or fitted on a fused spur, where yours gives less than Google's 10 VA
- A Nest Hello taken down and replaced, with its four-wire chime connector removed
What moves the price of a Nest camera?
Height, cable route and power:
- Nest Cam (battery): no wiring, but outdoor positions can mean ladder work, and the optional weatherproof cable needs a route
- Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen): Google gives it a 5.5 m cable, which runs to a socket outside, or indoors through an existing vent or a drilled hole
- Where there is no socket outside, one added as a spur from an existing circuit, RCD-protected at 30 mA
- Nest Cam with floodlight: it replaces an existing outside light, needs a working earth and a permanent live, and Google wants it upright on a vertical wall, so a light under the eaves may need a bracket or a new position
- On high positions, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature
Floodlight and outdoor socket work books under electrical work.
What moves the price of Nest Protect and Wi-Fi work?
Two smaller kinds of Nest job:
- Battery Nest Protects swapped for new alarms: ceiling work and set-up
- Wired Protects replaced on the same circuit: each head on a new base, with the new set's interlink tested
- Nest Wifi Pro: placing the routers, Ethernet between them where possible, and joining 2.4 GHz-only devices such as the battery doorbell and Nest Protect
- A Nest Hub or Google Home Speaker set up as the home's Matter hub over Thread
What does the fixed price cover?
Before you book you can see what is in the price and what is not:
- Included: the agreed fitting and wiring on existing circuits, pairing in the Google Home or Nest app, and a walk-through of the settings
- Not included: the Nest devices, since JACK does not sell any, and Google Home Premium, which Google bills
- Not booked through JACK: a new circuit, consumer unit work, fixed electrical work in a bathroom, wiring at the boiler and unvented cylinder controls
- Agreed at cost before you book: transformers, fused spurs, outdoor sockets, brackets, base plates and paid parking
Where a circuit is altered, ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.
Your photos become one fixed price for every Nest device
Every pro on JACK is vetted, insured pros are shown first, and only London addresses can book. Send:
- Each spot where a device goes, with enough around it to show access
- For a thermostat: the old controls, the boiler's make and model and any cylinder
- For a doorbell: the transformer label and the chime
- For cameras and floodlights: the outside light or socket now, and where the router is
For a long list, a full day books one pro for up to 8 hours on site at a flat £350–£400.

How is Google Nest installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Nest job from the model and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
On heating, where the Heat Link goes moves the price most: a 3rd gen Heat Link in place of a programmer on the same wiring is the plainest job, while hot water on a cylinder, an S-plan or Y-plan wiring centre or an old wired thermostat to take out of the circuit adds to it. Anything that must be wired at the boiler itself is left out of the price and handed to a Gas Safe registered engineer.
On doorbells and cameras, power comes first: a battery doorbell or Nest Cam with a good 2.4 GHz signal is the lightest job, a weak bell transformer is swapped on its existing supply, and the Nest Cam with floodlight is priced as electrical work on your outside-light circuit. For a camera high on a gable, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature.
JACK does not sell devices, so the Nest kit is yours to buy. Accessories the job needs, such as a bell transformer, a fused spur or an outdoor junction box, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Several devices go on one booking for one fixed price. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install a Nest thermostat in London?
On JACK it is a fixed price for your home, set from photos of your controls and boiler and shown in the JACK app before you book. A Thermostat E on an old room thermostat's wires is usually the simpler job, and a 3rd gen Heat Link replacing a programmer the bigger one. If you prefer to pay by the hour, smart-home hire is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
Is the Nest device included in the installation price?
No. You buy the Nest device from any shop, and JACK does not sell devices. Parts the job needs, such as a transformer or a fused spur, are agreed at cost before you book.
Does Google Home Premium add to the installation cost?
No. Google Home Premium, the plan that replaced Nest Aware, is billed by Google, and a new Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell comes with a 30-day trial. A pro can help you start the trial or link your account, but does not sell or quote the plan.
Why might a Nest thermostat job also need a Gas Safe engineer?
Because JACK's rule leaves any wiring at the boiler's own terminals, including an OpenTherm connection, to a Gas Safe registered engineer, and JACK pros do not claim Gas Safe registration. You are told before you book, so the fixed price covers only the wall-side work, and you arrange the boiler end with a Gas Safe registered engineer yourself.
Can I book several Nest devices on one visit?
Yes. A Nest thermostat, doorbell, cameras and smoke alarms can be priced together for one visit, and devices from other makers can join the same booking.
