Google Nest · Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) in the UK
Can You Get the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) in the UK?
Updated
UK searches ask when the 4th gen Nest Learning Thermostat will be released here, but Google lists it for the United States and Canada only. This guide explains why it will not run a UK boiler, what Google has said about Nest thermostats in Europe, and which Nest models a UK home can still use, as checked on 1 November 2026.
In short
No. Google lists the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) for the United States and Canada only, and its help pages say a thermostat made for North America will not work with European heating systems, which need a Heat Link and support for high voltage. Google said in April 2025 that it would not launch new Nest thermostats in Europe, so the Nest models for UK boilers remain the 3rd gen Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat E.

Why won't a 4th gen Nest run a UK boiler?
The 4th gen is built for North American heating and cooling, and Google treats the two families as separate products:
- Google's regional availability page lists the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), the Google Nest Thermostat and the Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) for Canada and the US only
- Google says a thermostat made for the US or Canada will not work with European systems, because European models need a Heat Link and support for high voltage
- The European 3rd gen shares its name with the North American 3rd gen but, Google says, is engineered separately, with a Heat Link, hot water control and OpenTherm
- The Nest Temperature Sensor is supported only in the US, Canada and Mexico, and Google says thermostats made for other countries are not compatible with it
What has Google said about Nest thermostats in Europe?
Google posted its April 2025 statement on its Nest Community blog, which now redirects elsewhere, so its wording is known from press reports that quote it:
- The Register and 9to5Google report Google saying it would no longer launch new Nest thermostats in Europe
- The reason given was that European heating systems are unique, with many hardware and software requirements
- Google said it was instead enabling established smart thermostat companies to build energy devices, according to The Register
- 9to5Google reported that the 3rd gen Learning Thermostat and the Thermostat E would stay on sale in Europe while supplies last, keeping security updates and app control
Google's own help pages confirm a change announced at the same time: support for the 1st and 2nd gen Learning Thermostats ended on 25 October 2025.
Which Nest thermostats suit a UK home now?
Two Nest models were made for UK and European heating, and each needs its own Heat Link:
- Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen): Google Store UK showed it as out of stock on 1 November 2026, and Google's regional page does not list it. Google lists it for combi, system and heat-only boilers, hot water cylinders, wet underfloor heating, heat pumps for heating only, zoned systems and OpenTherm
- Nest Thermostat E: Google Store UK still offered it with an Add to basket button on 1 November 2026. Google lists it for combi and heat-only boilers, heat pumps for heating only, zoned systems and district heating with electrical control valves, with no stored hot water
- The 3rd gen's Heat Link goes where the programmer was; the Thermostat E's Heat Link E usually takes the room thermostat's place
- Stock bought from another shop should be the UK or EU version, since Google says North American models will not work with European systems
A 4th gen bought abroad cannot be fitted to UK heating
A JACK pro will not connect a North American Nest to a UK system, because Google says it will not work. The realistic options are:
- Return it to the seller if you can
- Fit a UK model instead: a Nest Thermostat E, or a 3rd gen Learning Thermostat if you find UK stock
- Choose another smart thermostat brand made for UK boilers; JACK pros fit Hive and tado° at the wall as well as Nest
- Keep a 3rd gen or Thermostat E you already have: Google's 2025 end of support covered only the 1st and 2nd gen Learning Thermostats
Fitting a UK Nest starts with photos of your controls
If you have a 3rd gen or a Thermostat E to fit, a JACK pro in London prices it from photos, and the fixed price shows in the JACK app before you book. Send:
- The box or order, showing the model and that it is the UK version
- Your current programmer or room thermostat
- The boiler's make and model, and whether there is a hot water cylinder
JACK does not sell thermostats, so you buy the Nest yourself. If you would rather pay for time, smart-home hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour, as a guide only.

How is Google Nest installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Nest job from the model and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
On heating, where the Heat Link goes moves the price most: a 3rd gen Heat Link in place of a programmer on the same wiring is the plainest job, while hot water on a cylinder, an S-plan or Y-plan wiring centre or an old wired thermostat to take out of the circuit adds to it. Anything that must be wired at the boiler itself is left out of the price and handed to a Gas Safe registered engineer.
On doorbells and cameras, power comes first: a battery doorbell or Nest Cam with a good 2.4 GHz signal is the lightest job, a weak bell transformer is swapped on its existing supply, and the Nest Cam with floodlight is priced as electrical work on your outside-light circuit. For a camera high on a gable, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature.
JACK does not sell devices, so the Nest kit is yours to buy. Accessories the job needs, such as a bell transformer, a fused spur or an outdoor junction box, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Several devices go on one booking for one fixed price. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
Frequently asked questions
When is the Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen coming to the UK?
Google has given no UK date. It lists the 4th gen for the United States and Canada only, and in April 2025 it said, according to press reports, that it would not launch new Nest thermostats in Europe.
Can I use an imported 4th gen Nest in the UK?
Not on UK heating. Google says a US or Canadian thermostat cannot run a European system, because those need a Heat Link and high-voltage support, and a JACK pro will not install one.
Is the 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat still supported?
Yes. Google's end-of-support notice covers only the 1st and 2nd gen Learning Thermostats, and press reports of Google's April 2025 announcement say the 3rd gen and the Thermostat E keep app control and security updates.
Does the Nest Temperature Sensor work with UK Nest thermostats?
No. Google supports it only in the US, Canada and Mexico, and says thermostats made for other countries are not compatible. The nearest alternative is to put the Thermostat E, or a 3rd gen on its stand, in the room that matters most.
