Google Nest Wifi, Nest Hub and Google Home Speaker Set-Up in London
Updated
Google's routers, speakers and displays plug in, so the work is placement and set-up: getting Wi-Fi through London brick to the devices that need it, and choosing which one runs your Matter and Thread devices. A vetted JACK pro does both and leaves your Google Home app in order.
In short
Yes: a vetted JACK pro in London places and sets up Nest Wifi Pro, older Nest Wifi and Google Wifi, Nest Hub displays and the Google Home Speaker, and makes one of them the Matter and Thread hub for your other smart devices. They all plug into a socket, so there is no electrical work, and several Nest devices join 2.4 GHz only, which decides where the Wi-Fi points go. You agree a fixed price in the JACK app first.
Say which devices you have, send a rough floor plan or a photo of each room with the router in it, and list the smart devices that need to connect: a Nest doorbell, cameras, a thermostat, Philips Hue lights or others.

Which Google device should run your smart home?
Google calls them Matter hubs, and some are also Thread border routers. From Google's help:
- Matter over Wi-Fi and Thread: the Google Home Speaker, Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro and Google TV Streamer
- Matter over Wi-Fi only: Nest Audio, Nest Mini, the Nest Hub (1st gen) and older Google Home speakers
- Google lists the Google Home Speaker as a Thread 1.3 border router, and Nest Wifi Pro and the older Nest Wifi as Thread border routers too
If you have Philips Hue lights as well, the Hue guide explains how they join Google Home.

Ofcom notes that brick internal walls make Wi-Fi harder to spread, and the Nest devices furthest from the router often have the least choice of band:
- The Nest Doorbell (battery), Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam with floodlight and Nest Protect join 2.4 GHz only in Europe, so a point near the front of the house matters more than top speed
- Nest Wifi Pro is Wi-Fi 6E on three bands, with two Ethernet ports on each router, and the pro links points by cable where a route exists
- Nest Wifi Pro cannot mesh with Nest Wifi or Google Wifi, so a mixed set means choosing one system
- Google no longer sells Nest Wifi or Google Wifi, but existing sets are still placed, reset and extended; Nest Wifi points double as speakers
- Ofcom's advice is a router placed centrally and off the floor, and mesh rather than extenders, which can slow the connection
What does the pro set up in the Google Home app?
Once everything is placed:
- Your home and its members, so the right people see cameras and controls
- A guest network and Family Wi-Fi on Nest Wifi, with each device on the right band
- Speaker groups, or two Google Home Speakers paired with a Google TV Streamer for surround sound
- A Nest speaker or display announcing visitors from a Nest doorbell that has no wired chime
- The Google Home Premium trial that comes with a new Nest Cam, Nest Doorbell or Google Home Speaker, started or linked to your account; JACK never sells the plan
- A Nest Mini (2nd gen) hung on the wall, or a bracket you have bought for a Nest Hub fixed up, with the cable run neatly
Which of these does Google still sell in the UK?
As Google's UK store showed them on 1 November 2026:
- Nest Wifi Pro had a Buy button, and the Google Home Speaker was listed as new
- Nest Hub (2nd gen) and Nest Hub Max were out of stock
- Nest Wifi and Google Wifi are no longer sold by Google
- Google promises security updates for at least five years from a device's launch; for the Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Audio, Nest Mini and Nest Wifi that minimum has passed, though Google still lists them as getting updates
What power and hub role does each Google speaker, display and router have?
From Google's speaker and display spec page, its Matter hub list and its Wi-Fi comparison page:
| Device | Power | Wi-Fi | Matter and Thread |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Home Speaker | 30 W USB-C adaptor | Wi-Fi 6 | Matter hub; Thread 1.3 border router |
| Nest Hub (2nd gen) | 15 W adaptor | 2.4 and 5 GHz | Matter over Wi-Fi and Thread |
| Nest Hub Max | 30 W adaptor | 2.4 and 5 GHz | Matter over Wi-Fi and Thread |
| Nest Audio | 30 W adaptor | 2.4 and 5 GHz | Matter over Wi-Fi only |
| Nest Mini (2nd gen) | 15 W adaptor | 2.4 and 5 GHz | Matter over Wi-Fi only |
| Nest Wifi Pro | Plugs into a socket | Wi-Fi 6E, three bands | Matter hub; Thread border router |
| Nest Wifi (older) | Plugs into a socket | Wi-Fi 5, two bands | Thread border router |
Google also lists the Google TV Streamer (4K) as a Matter hub over Wi-Fi and Thread, though it is not a Nest device.
How is Google Nest installation priced in London?
A vetted pro prices your Nest job from the model and your photos, and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
On heating, where the Heat Link goes moves the price most: a 3rd gen Heat Link in place of a programmer on the same wiring is the plainest job, while hot water on a cylinder, an S-plan or Y-plan wiring centre or an old wired thermostat to take out of the circuit adds to it. Anything that must be wired at the boiler itself is left out of the price and handed to a Gas Safe registered engineer.
On doorbells and cameras, power comes first: a battery doorbell or Nest Cam with a good 2.4 GHz signal is the lightest job, a weak bell transformer is swapped on its existing supply, and the Nest Cam with floodlight is priced as electrical work on your outside-light circuit. For a camera high on a gable, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature.
JACK does not sell devices, so the Nest kit is yours to buy. Accessories the job needs, such as a bell transformer, a fused spur or an outdoor junction box, are agreed and added at cost before you book, and so is parking where it has to be paid for. Several devices go on one booking for one fixed price. Prefer to pay for time? As a guide, hourly hire is typically £45–£95 per hour for smart home work and £55–£110 per hour for electrical work, and a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
How it works
Step 1
Send the Nest model and photos
Name the Nest device and photograph where it goes: the boiler label, old controls and any cylinder for heating; the transformer label and chime for a doorbell; the outside light and its switch for a floodlight cam.
Step 2
See the fixed price, then choose a day
A vetted pro prices what you sent and says plainly if any part needs a Gas Safe engineer or a registered electrician instead. Nothing is booked until you accept, and you choose the day.
Step 3
Fitted, tested and handed over
Power isolated and proved dead before any wiring, devices fixed and paired, the boiler fired and stopped or a test ring checked, then schedules and alerts set up in your app with you.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Nest Wifi or Nest Hub set-up cost in London?
A vetted pro sets a fixed price from your devices and floor plan, shown in the JACK app before you book. A single speaker is quick; a Wifi Pro system with cable between floors and many devices to rejoin takes longer. Paid by the hour, smart home work is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
Can Nest Wifi Pro mesh with my old Nest Wifi?
No. Google says Nest Wifi Pro does not mesh with Nest Wifi or Google Wifi points, so the pro sets up one system and takes the other off the network. Devices that joined the old Wi-Fi are moved across while the pro is there.
Can a Google Nest Hub be wall mounted?
With a bracket you have bought for it, yes: the pro fixes the bracket, checks the screen angle from where you stand, and hides the power cable where the wall allows. The Nest Mini (2nd gen) was designed with wall-mount support, so it can go straight on the wall.
Do Nest devices need a Nest Hub to work?
No. Nest thermostats, doorbells, cameras and Protects connect to your Wi-Fi and their app on their own. A Nest Hub or Google Home Speaker adds a screen or a voice, visitor announcements, and a Matter and Thread hub for other brands' devices.
Can the pro add my Philips Hue lights to Google Home?
Yes, on the same visit. The Hue guide explains how Hue joins Google Home, and the pro links your lights in the Google Home app and adds them to rooms and routines with you.
