tado° Installation Cost in London: What Changes the Price
Updated
Online cost guides quote wide ranges for fitting a smart thermostat because the job varies so much from home to home. With tado°, the device is rarely what moves the price; what is already on your wall is. This guide sets out what changes the price of a tado° installation in London and how a JACK pro works out a fixed price before you book.
In short
A tado° installation on JACK is a fixed price, worked out by a vetted pro from photos of your boiler, current controls and tado° kit, and shown in the JACK app before you book. The price moves with the job: a wired thermostat swap is shortest, a receiver on a hot water system takes longer, and radiator thermostats add time per radiator. Hourly hire for smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.

What changes the price
These are the things a pro looks for in your photos:
- Wired thermostat or receiver: swapping a wall thermostat on the same cable is quicker than replacing a programmer
- Hot water: a cylinder system means S-plan or Y-plan wiring and testing both heating and hot water
- Old controls to take out of the circuit: an old wired thermostat or wireless receiver bridged out at the wall
- Radiator thermostats: priced on the number of radiators, and on any valves that need adapters
- Zones: each extra thermostat or receiver is another device to fit and pair
- A Bridge X or second bridge for a large home or thick walls
Costs tado° itself mentions
Two points from tado°'s own terms are worth knowing before you book:
- tado° says it does not cover installation costs, including where a compatible boiler turns out to need rewiring
- If you return tado° devices within its 30-day window, tado° says the refund does not include the cost of professional installation
How tado° installation is priced
A vetted pro prices your job from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the tado° kit, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
What is on your wall now decides the job. A wired thermostat swapped for a Smart Thermostat X on the same cable is the simplest. A receiver in place of a heating and hot water programmer, an old wireless thermostat and its receiver to take out of the circuit, or a home split into zones takes longer. A Smart Radiator Thermostat is simple on its own, so a house full of them is priced on the number of radiators and the valves they sit on.
Every device goes on one booking for one price: the thermostat or receiver, a Bridge X if your kit needs one, and radiator thermostats for each room. Other jobs, such as a smart doorbell, can go on the same visit. Where parking has to be paid for, it is added at cost and agreed before you book.
Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour.
