tado° Wired Smart Thermostat V3+ Installation in London

Updated

The tado° Wired Smart Thermostat V3+ is the older tado° wired thermostat, and it supports more digital boiler connections than tado° X does. tado°'s UK shop no longer lists it as a kit, but it is on many London walls. A vetted JACK pro refits, replaces or swaps it out on the existing cable for a fixed price before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London works on the tado° Wired Smart Thermostat V3+ at the wall: refitting it after decorating, swapping a faulty unit like for like on the same cable, or replacing it with a tado° X thermostat. Check first: tado° says X supports fewer modulating boilers than V3+, so a V3+ on a digital boiler connection may not have an X equivalent.

How the Wired Smart Thermostat V3+ is powered and mounted

The V3+ wired thermostat could talk to many boilers digitally: Vaillant eBus, the Worcester Bosch bus and others, which let the boiler modulate its flame. tado° X only offers relay and OpenTherm. tado° says that if a V3+ wired thermostat drives a modulating boiler that does not use OpenTherm, tado° X may not be compatible.

So the first question on any V3+ job is how it is wired today. A relay connection swaps to X on the same cable. A digital bus connection means staying with V3+, or moving to on/off control with X, which means reconnecting the cable at the boiler's relay terminals; that needs a Gas Safe engineer and is not part of a JACK booking.

What the pro checks first

  • How it connects today: relay, OpenTherm or a digital bus such as eBus or EMS
  • The boiler label, if you are moving to tado° X
  • The Internet Bridge on the router, if you are keeping V3+

What the pro does on the Wired Smart Thermostat V3+

  • Existing connection identified at the wall: relay, OpenTherm or a digital bus
  • For a refit or like-for-like swap: power isolated and wires returned to the same terminals
  • For a move to X: only where the V3+ already switches the boiler by relay or OpenTherm, the X thermostat wired on the same cable
  • Old V3+ devices removed from the app, and X set up as a new Home with your settings re-entered

Before you book: what to send

  • A photo of the thermostat and, if it lifts off, the wiring behind it
  • The boiler's make and model
  • Whether you are keeping V3+ or moving to tado° X

How tado° installation is priced

A vetted pro prices your job from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the tado° kit, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Will a tado° X thermostat work where my V3+ is?

If the V3+ switches the boiler by relay, or uses OpenTherm, usually yes on the same cable. If it uses a digital bus such as eBus or EMS, tado° says X may not be compatible, or may only switch the boiler on and off; moving a bus-wired V3+ to on/off control means reconnecting the cable at the boiler's relay terminals, which needs a Gas Safe engineer and is not part of a JACK booking.

Can you rewire my V3+ thermostat to a new boiler?

The work at the wall, yes. Connecting the cable to the new boiler's terminals is boiler work: tado° recommends asking the boiler engineer to wire tado° the way it was wired before, and that needs a Gas Safe engineer.

How much does tado° Wired Smart Thermostat V3+ installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Wired Smart Thermostat V3+, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
