Philips Hue Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights Installation in London
Updated
Festavia permanent is the version of Hue's Festavia lights made to stay up all year, under the eaves, along a roofline or across the front of a building. The UK set is 18 m long with 32 pods and comes with its own low-volt power supply, with 2.5 m of cable before the first light, and Hue sells a 9 m, 16-pod extension. A vetted JACK pro in London plans the run from the socket, fixes it along the fascia or wall and sets it up on your Hue Bridge, for a fixed price you see before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London can fit Philips Hue Festavia permanent lights along your eaves, roofline or façade, with the included low-volt power supply plugged into an outdoor socket and a Hue Bridge to control them. Most of the job is ladder work and cable routing, and in a leasehold flat or on a listed building, consent may be needed before anything is fixed to the outside.

How the Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights is powered and mounted
Festavia permanent is a run of light pods on one low-voltage cable, fed by a power supply that comes in the box and plugs in at an outdoor socket. Hue leaves 2.5 m of cable before the first pod, which is the distance the pro has to work with between the supply end and the point where the lit section starts. The set is rated IP65 for life outdoors, and Hue requires a Hue Bridge to run it.
Planning the run is most of the work. Measured along the fascia, the 18 m set either fits, needs the 9 m extension, or needs cutting. Hueblog reports that it can be cut after any pod but cannot be extended again once cut, so the end point is agreed with you before anything is cut. Hueblog also says that, in principle, a run can be extended to 45 m.
Fixing is ladder work along fascias, soffits and walls, with the cable clipped at even spacing and a drip loop where it drops towards the socket, so rain runs off rather than following the cable into the connection. If the eaves are higher than a ladder can safely reach, the pro tells you before you book what access the job needs and what that adds. A low-volt string plugged into an outdoor socket needs no mains wiring; where there is no outdoor socket, adding one on an existing circuit is a separate, non-notifiable job that must have 30 mA RCD protection.
What the pro checks first
- The length you want lit, measured along the fascia or wall, against the 18 m set and the 9 m extension
- The height of the eaves and what lies below them: a basement well, a conservatory roof or a front garden
- What the fascia and soffit are made of, and whether they are sound enough to fix to
- Where the outdoor socket is, or would go, in relation to the start of the run and Hue's 2.5 m lead
- Whether your Hue Bridge reaches the side of the house where the pods will be
What the pro does on the Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights
- Run measured and the pod spacing checked against windows and corners before any clip goes up
- Every pod lit and checked at ground level first, so a fault shows up before the ladder goes up
- Cable fixed at even spacing along the fascia or wall, with a drip loop before the power supply
- Any cut made only at the agreed end point, after a pod, because Hueblog says a cut run cannot be extended
- Hue's 9 m extension joined where your run is longer than 18 m
- Lights added to your Hue Bridge, with scenes from warm white to full colour set with you
- For long runs or awkward corners at height, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature
How the Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights installation goes
- 1Photos and measurements of the elevation reviewed, with the start, end and socket position agreed
- 2Packs unboxed and checked against your order, with the extension and power supply present
- 3Ladder set safely and the cable fixed along the run from the socket end
- 4Run cut or extended to the agreed length
- 5Power supply plugged in and the set added to the Hue Bridge
- 6Scenes, timers and brightness set with you, then checked from the street
Before you book: what to send
- Ground-level photos of the whole elevation where the lights will go
- Your measurement of the run, even a rough one, and which Festavia packs you have
- A photo of the outdoor socket, or of where you would want one
- Whether the property is a leasehold flat, rented or listed, and any consent you already have
- How the area under the eaves can be reached: front garden, basement well or pavement
Does fixing Festavia permanent to a London building need consent?
Check these before anything is fixed to the outside:
- Leasehold flats: the outside walls and roof are usually kept by the freeholder, so fixing lights to them needs written consent
- Listed buildings: works that affect a listed building's character need listed building consent from the council
- Rented homes: the landlord's written agreement comes before any clips go into the fascia or brickwork
- Conservation areas may also control changes to the outside of a building, so check with your council if your street is in one
JACK does not sell Festavia sets or extensions; you buy them, and the pro puts them up.

Full pricing guide for Philips Hue installationFrequently asked questions
Can Philips Hue Festavia permanent be cut?
Yes. Hue's UK page lists it as cuttable and extendable. Hueblog adds that it can be cut after any pod, but a run that has been cut cannot then be extended, so the end point is settled with you before the cut.
How long can a Festavia permanent run be?
The UK set is 18 m with 32 pods, and Hue sells a 9 m, 16-pod extension. Hueblog says a run can, in principle, be extended to 45 m. The first pod sits 2.5 m along the cable, which the pro allows for between the socket and where the lights begin.
Does Festavia permanent need a Hue Bridge?
Yes, Hue's UK page says a Bridge is required. The Bridge usually sits indoors by the router, so the pro checks the lights respond from where they are fixed before finishing; a Hue light indoors on that side of the house helps carry the signal, because every Hue light repeats it.
How much does Philips Hue Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
