West Elm Furniture Assembly in London

Much West Elm furniture is solid wood or has a heavy frame, which makes it awkward to lift and fiddly to put together. A vetted local pro on Jack All Trades (JACK) builds your West Elm bed, sofa, dresser, media console or dining table on a day and time you choose, for a fixed price you see before you book.

In short

Yes. Jack All Trades (JACK) books vetted local pros in London to assemble West Elm furniture: beds, sofas, chests of drawers, media consoles, desks, dining tables and outdoor sets, plus the jobs West Elm's own assembly team does not do, such as curtain poles, mirrors, light fittings and fitting a headboard to an existing bed. Send the product link and a photo of the room in the JACK app and you see a fixed price before you book.

Send the product link or your order confirmation and a photo of the room. A pro prices the build for the piece you actually bought, checks the parts before starting, fixes tall pieces to the wall where the instructions say so, and leaves the packaging flattened and stacked for recycling. Photos, updates and a chat with your pro all happen in the JACK app.

The guides below cover the West Elm pieces that come up most: how each one arrives, what the build involves, and what to send before you book.

Does West Elm UK assemble furniture? It depends on the delivery type

West Elm UK delivers in three ways, and each product page says which one applies. As West Elm's delivery information describes them on 26 October 2026:

  • Standard Delivery: small items, such as bed linen, cushions, tableware and small furniture under 25 kg, come by UPS parcel delivery, so any assembly is left to you
  • Home Delivery: larger pieces delivered to your door by West Elm's logistics company, without assembly
  • Home Delivery & Assembly: large furniture carried into the room you choose, unpacked, built and the packaging taken away. West Elm says this team does not hang art, fit curtain hardware, attach headboards to existing bed frames or install lighting and electronics, and that the full service is not available in every area

If your order already includes Home Delivery & Assembly and you are happy for it to be built on delivery day, that is usually the simplest option. JACK is for everything else: parcel deliveries you would rather not build yourself, door-only deliveries, the pictures, curtain poles and headboards the delivery team will not fit, furniture bought second-hand or from another shop, and taking West Elm pieces apart and rebuilding them when you move within London.

Jobs West Elm's delivery team leaves for you

These are the West Elm jobs JACK pros are booked for most, because they fall outside a delivery-and-assembly visit:

  • Curtain rods and poles: fixed level into brick, block or plasterboard, curtains hung
  • Mirrors and wall art: hung on fixings rated for the weight, pipes and cables checked first
  • Pendants, chandeliers and wall lights: replacing an existing light fitting with your West Elm one
  • Headboards fitted to a bed frame you already have
  • Wall-mounted bedside tables, wall desks and floating shelves
  • Anti-tip kits fitted on dressers, bookcases and armoires that were left free-standing
  • Cot-to-toddler-bed conversion kits, months after the cot was built
  • Moving within London: West Elm beds, wardrobes and desks taken apart before the move and rebuilt in the new home (your removal firm carries them)

Why West Elm pieces take longer than they look

Much West Elm furniture is solid wood, wood veneer or metal with a heavy frame, and it is designed to look seamless once built. That is what makes the build slower than flat-pack from a budget range:

  • Heavy panels and frames: dressers, media consoles and solid-wood beds can be awkward to lift and turn while the joints are loose. If a piece needs a second pair of hands, your pro can ask another pro on JACK to help through the Pro2Pro feature
  • Exact alignment: drawer fronts, doors and runners are adjusted until the gaps are even, which takes patience on a long dresser or a sideboard
  • Finishes that mark easily: lacquer, marble, glass and pale veneers are built on blankets, and hardware is tightened by hand where a drill could crack or scuff
  • Upholstered pieces in sections: modular sofas such as the Harmony come as separate pieces with removable legs, and when they are moved or rebuilt the pieces have to be lined up again before they sit right
  • Anti-tip kits: tall dressers, bookcases and wardrobes come with wall-fixing hardware, and the right plug for your wall (brick, block or plasterboard) matters more than the screw in the box

Before your West Elm delivery arrives

A few checks make the build day smoother and stop a heavy piece getting stuck halfway up the stairs:

  • Measure doorways, stair turns and lift doors against the boxed size on the product page, not just the built size
  • Check the delivery type on your order: Standard Delivery and Home Delivery stop at your door, while Home Delivery & Assembly is carried into the room of your choice and built
  • Keep the boxes closed until the pro arrives, so nothing goes missing and any damage is spotted in the box it came in
  • Clear the floor where the piece will go, plus space alongside it to lay out panels
  • For wall-mounted pieces, mirrors and curtain hardware, check where pipes and cables run, or ask the pro to use a detector

How West Elm assembly is priced

A vetted pro prices your piece from the product link and a photo of the room, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.

The design moves the price far more than the size. A side table with screw-in legs is a short job. A solid-wood bed with a slatted base, a six-drawer dresser with runners to align, or a sectional sofa whose pieces clip together is a much longer one. Send the product link or a screenshot of the order so the price is for the piece you bought.

Several pieces from one delivery, such as a bed, two nightstands and a dresser, go on one booking for one price. Pieces from other shops can go on the same visit. Where parking has to be paid for, it is added at cost and agreed before you book.

Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, furniture assembly is typically £35–£75 per hour. For a big delivery, a full-day handyman booking often suits: a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.

How it works

Step 1

Share the piece and the room

Paste the West Elm product link or a screenshot of your order (not delivered yet? the link is enough to price from) and add a photo of the room. Mention stairs, a lift or a tight turn on the landing.

Step 2

See the price, pick a slot

A vetted pro prices the build from what you sent. Book once you are happy with the price, choosing a slot after your delivery date; evenings and weekends are available when pros have them.

Step 3

Built, checked, handed over

Parts are counted first, the piece is built and levelled, drawers and doors adjusted, tall pieces anchored and the packaging flattened for recycling. You follow it all in the JACK app.

Frequently asked questions

Does West Elm assemble the furniture it delivers?

Only on Home Delivery & Assembly orders. West Elm UK's smaller items arrive by parcel courier for you to build, and Home Delivery stops at your door without assembly. Even with Home Delivery & Assembly, West Elm says its team does not hang art, fit curtain hardware, attach headboards to existing frames or install lighting. A vetted JACK pro can hang pictures and mirrors, fit curtain poles, attach a headboard to your frame or build a piece that arrived in the box, and pros who do electrical work can replace an existing light fitting with your West Elm one, on a day you choose.

How much does West Elm furniture assembly cost in London?

It is a fixed price for the piece you bought, worked out by a vetted pro from the product link and a photo of the room and shown before you book. The design moves the price most: a dresser, a solid-wood bed or a sectional sofa takes longer than a side table. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for furniture assembly is typically £35–£75 per hour as a guide.

Can you build several West Elm pieces in one visit?

Yes. List every piece on one booking, such as a bed, two nightstands and a dresser, and one price covers the visit. Pieces from other shops can go on the same booking. For a long list, a full-day handyman booking is a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.

Do you fix tall West Elm pieces to the wall?

Yes. Where the instructions include an anti-tip kit, the pro fixes the piece to the wall using plugs that suit your wall, whether brick, block or plasterboard. Let the pro know if you rent and need to check with your landlord first.

What if a part is missing or damaged?

Parts are counted before the build starts. If something is missing or damaged, the pro reports it with photos in the JACK app so you can contact West Elm about a replacement, and builds whatever can safely be built in the meantime.

Can you fit West Elm curtain poles, mirrors and lights?

Yes. These are the jobs West Elm's delivery team does not do. Curtain rods and poles are fixed level with plugs that suit your wall, mirrors go on fixings rated for their weight, and pendant lights and chandeliers are fitted in place of an existing light by pros who do electrical work.

Can you take West Elm furniture apart for a house move?

Yes, within London. A pro takes the bed, wardrobe or desk apart before your removal firm arrives, bags and labels the fittings, then rebuilds it in the new home on a second visit. JACK does not transport furniture, so the move itself is down to your removal firm.

Do you deliver or collect West Elm furniture?

No. JACK pros build, fit and fix furniture that is already at your home. Delivery is arranged with West Elm, and collecting from a store or moving furniture between addresses is down to you or a removal firm.

Do you take the packaging away?

The packaging is flattened and stacked for recycling at your home. Taking packaging or old furniture away is not part of an assembly booking.

Do you cover the whole of England?

Not yet. Jack All Trades books vetted pros in London today. If you are outside London, the West Elm guides on this site still explain what each build involves, but we cannot send a pro to you yet.

Is Jack All Trades part of West Elm?

No. Jack All Trades (JACK) is an independent London service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by West Elm or Williams-Sonoma, Inc. West Elm product names are used only to describe the furniture pros put together.
