West Elm Assembly Instructions (UK): Where to Find Them and When to Book a Pro
West Elm UK product pages have an Assembly Instructions section, and some listings, such as the Parsons Desk, link to an instruction sheet. This guide covers where to look, what a typical build needs, and the point at which it is easier and safer to have a JACK pro build it.
In short
Where West Elm publishes assembly instructions, they are linked from the Assembly Instructions section of the product page on westelm.co.uk; otherwise check every box and bag of fittings for a printed sheet. If the sheet is missing or the piece is too heavy to manage alone, a vetted JACK pro in London can build it for a fixed price you see before you book.

Where to find West Elm instructions
Check these in order:
- The box: check every box and bag for an instruction sheet before the packaging is flattened
- The product page on westelm.co.uk: scroll to Assembly Instructions; where West Elm publishes a sheet it is linked there
- West Elm customer service, with your order number, for pieces where no sheet is online
- Keep the sheet afterwards: you need it again to take the piece apart when you move
What most West Elm builds need
Beyond the Allen keys in the box:
- A cordless drill with a clutch set low, or a set of hand screwdrivers for finishes that mark easily
- Blankets or the flattened box to build on, so lacquer, marble and pale veneers are not scratched
- A second person for headboards, dressers, media consoles and sofa sections over about 25 kg
- Wall plugs and screws that suit your wall for the anti-tip kit: the ones in the box may not suit your wall
When to book a pro instead
It is usually worth handing the build over when:
- The piece is heavy or long, like a king-size bed, a 6-drawer chest or a 2-metre console
- There are many drawers or doors to align
- It must be fixed to the wall: a dresser, bookcase, armoire or wall-mounted bedside table
- The instructions or a bag of fittings are missing, or the piece is second-hand
- It is a light fitting: West Elm's chandelier listings say they are hardwired, and its pendant and chandelier listings recommend professional installation
How West Elm assembly is priced
A vetted pro prices your piece from the product link and a photo of the room, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
The design moves the price far more than the size. A side table with screw-in legs is a short job. A solid-wood bed with a slatted base, a six-drawer dresser with runners to align, or a sectional sofa whose pieces clip together is a much longer one. Send the product link or a screenshot of the order so the price is for the piece you bought.
Several pieces from one delivery, such as a bed, two nightstands and a dresser, go on one booking for one price. Pieces from other shops can go on the same visit. Where parking has to be paid for, it is added at cost and agreed before you book.
Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, furniture assembly is typically £35–£75 per hour. For a big delivery, a full-day handyman booking often suits: a flat £350–£400 for up to 8 hours on site.
Frequently asked questions
Can a pro build West Elm furniture without the instructions?
Often, yes. Send the product name or link and photos of the parts, and the pro will say before you book whether it can be built without the sheet.
Does West Elm send replacement fittings?
Contact West Elm customer service with your order number about missing or damaged parts. If a JACK pro finds something missing, they photograph it in the JACK app so you have what you need, and build whatever can safely be built in the meantime.
