Ring Intercom Video Installation in London

Updated

Ring Intercom Video launched in the UK in late 2025, and Ring's UK store and help centre sell and support it under that name. It is the Ring Intercom built for video door entry handsets: connected to a compatible handset in your flat, it brings the picture from the entrance panel into the Ring app, alongside talking to the visitor and letting them in. A vetted JACK pro confirms your handset is compatible, connects and mounts the unit and tests it from the street door, for a fixed price you see before you book.

In short

Yes, a JACK pro in London fits Ring Intercom Video to a compatible video door entry handset, adding one-way video from the entrance panel and two-way talk in the Ring app, with remote unlock of the building entrance rather than your flat door. It runs on a rechargeable battery and connects into the handset you already have as an extra component, so the handset stays in place and keeps working. Check the model in Ring's compatibility checker and get the managing agent's agreement before booking, as the handset is usually part of the building's system.

Power, Wi-Fi and wiring facts come from Ring's UK help centre and UK store, linked beside each fact. Most Ring models changed name in the summer of 2026, so an older box may show a previous name: check the model on your box or order and send it with your request. Last checked 31 October 2026.

How the Intercom Video is powered and mounted

Ring Intercom Video is battery powered, like the audio model, using the same style of removable Quick Release pack, and it joins your network on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The unit is a square of about 11 cm, so before booking it is worth checking there is space on the wall beside the handset, clear of light switches, coat hooks and the door frame.

It does not replace any part of your door entry system. It wires into the existing video handset as an extra component and brings the entrance picture and the conversation to the Ring app. The handset stays on the wall, so anyone in the flat who prefers to answer it there still can.

Recording works differently from the audio model. With a Ring plan, conversations at the entrance can be kept for up to 180 days and you get visitor snapshots and video preview alerts, but recording stays off until you opt in. Ring's plan list does not include live answering, talk or unlock, so those work without a plan.

What the pro checks first

  • That the handset really is a video model with a screen, and that its exact model passes Ring's compatibility checker
  • Agreement in writing from the managing agent, freeholder or council, since a video handset is normally building equipment
  • Space on the wall beside the handset for an 11 cm square unit
  • The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal at the handset, taken on a phone
  • How the entrance releases: some systems unlock only while a call from the street panel is live

What the pro does on the Intercom Video

  • Connects the Ring unit following the app's diagram for your video handset, with the handset's own wires kept in their terminals
  • Mounts the unit beside the handset at a height everyone in the household can reach
  • Checks that the entrance picture appears in the Ring app and still shows on the handset screen
  • Runs a live test from the street: picture, talk, then unlock, and Ring-to-Open where the system needs it
  • Walks you through switching recording on if you want it, since Ring leaves it off by default

How the Intercom Video installation goes

  1. 1Check the video handset's model against Ring's checker and confirm the building's consent
  2. 2Open the handset's front cover and photograph the terminals before anything is changed
  3. 3Pick the handset model in the Ring app to bring up its wiring diagram
  4. 4Wire the Ring unit into the handset as the diagram shows and close the handset
  5. 5Fit the unit on the wall next to the handset with the screws and fixings supplied in the box
  6. 6Put the charged battery in, connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and finish set-up in the app
  7. 7Call the flat from the entrance panel and confirm video, two-way talk and unlocking all work

Before you book: what to send

  • A front photo of the video handset with its screen visible, and any model label
  • A photo of the entrance panel outside the building
  • The result from Ring's compatibility checker for your handset
  • Written consent from whoever manages the building's door entry system
  • A charged battery and the Ring app installed on your phone

Will my video handset work with Ring Intercom Video?

Only Ring's compatibility checker can say for your exact model. Four things settle it before you buy or book:

  • Find the model number: it is normally inside the handset once the front cover is off, and Ring's model-number guide shows where each maker it covers prints it
  • Put that model into Ring's compatibility checker; being named in Ring's model-number guide is not the same as being compatible
  • If your handset is not covered, send Ring Intercom support photos of the entrance panel and of the handset's wiring and terminals before buying
  • If the handset turns out to be audio-only, Ring Intercom Audio is the model for it

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Ring Intercom Video with an audio-only handset?

No. Ring Intercom Video needs a compatible video intercom handset, because the picture comes from the video system already in your building. On an audio handset, Ring Intercom Audio is the model to fit.

Do I need permission to fit Ring Intercom Video to my handset?

In most blocks, yes. The video handset is usually owned and maintained as part of the building's door entry system, and the unit changes how the main door can be opened. Ask your managing agent, freeholder or council landlord in writing and send their reply with your booking.

Does Ring Intercom Video record visitors?

Only with a Ring plan and only once you opt in to recording. Ring then keeps entrance conversations for up to 180 days and adds Visitor Snapshots and Video Preview Alerts. Without a plan you can still answer, talk and unlock live.

When did Ring Intercom Video come to the UK?

It launched in the UK in late 2025, after Ring Intercom Audio. Ring supports both models in its UK help centre.

How much does Ring Intercom Video installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Intercom Video, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
