Hive Thermostat Mini Installation in London

Updated

The Hive Thermostat Mini, launched in 2022, drops the dial for touch controls and runs on four AAA batteries. It uses the same receivers and the same installation as the Hive Thermostat, and its schedules live in the Hive app. A vetted JACK pro fits the receiver, places the Mini and sets it up with your hub, for a fixed price before you book.

In short

Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs the Hive Thermostat Mini: the receiver goes in place of your old programmer or receiver on the existing wiring, the boiler is tested, and the Mini is placed and paired. Plan for a Hive Hub: Hive says the Mini cannot set schedules without one. Connecting at the boiler itself needs a Gas Safe engineer.

How the Thermostat Mini is powered and mounted

Because the Mini has no dial, the app does more of the work: schedules are created and edited there, and Hive says that needs the Hive Hub. If your Mini came 'hubless', the pro checks whether you already have a current Hive Hub, or fits one on the same visit.

The Mini is smaller than the Hive Thermostat, so the wall fixing matters: Hive's backplate suits a single-gang back box or a direct wall fixing, and Hive also sells a stand. The placement rules are the same as for the dial model, including keeping it out of a room whose radiator has a thermostatic valve.

What the pro checks first

  • Whether a current Hive Hub is already in the home, since the Mini's schedules need one
  • The boiler label and the receiver type in the box
  • Which room the Mini will read, and that its radiator has no thermostatic valve

What the pro does on the Thermostat Mini

  • Receiver swapped in where the old controls were, on the existing wiring
  • Switch position set for your boiler type and the boiler tested
  • Mini fixed at about 1.5 m on an inside wall, or on a stand
  • Mini, receiver and hub paired
  • First schedule built in the Hive app with you

Before you book: what to send

  • A photo of the boiler label and your current controls
  • Whether you have a Hive Hub already, and which model
  • Which room the Mini should live in

How Hive installation is priced

A vetted pro prices your job from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the Hive kit, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Hive Thermostat Mini or the Hive Thermostat: which is easier to install?

Neither: they use the same receivers and the same wiring. The difference is how you use them. The Mini has touch controls and no dial, takes AAA batteries, and relies on the app and hub for schedules.

My Mini says it works without a hub. Do I still need one?

Only if you want schedules or app control. Hive says that without a hub the Mini can set a target temperature and change mode, but cannot set or edit schedules.

How much does Hive Thermostat Mini installation cost in London?

It is a fixed price for your Thermostat Mini, worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
