Hive Radiator Valve Fitting in London
Updated
A Hive Radiator Valve replaces the head of a thermostatic radiator valve, so each room can have its own schedule. Where your radiators already have TRVs, no water is drained. A vetted JACK pro fits a valve on every radiator you choose, matches the adaptors and pairs them to your hub, for a fixed price before you book.
In short
Yes. JACK pros in London fit Hive Radiator Valves on radiators that already have thermostatic valves: the old head comes off, the right adaptor goes on and the Hive valve is paired to your Hive Hub. Radiators with plain on/off valves need new valve bodies first, which means draining down, so that part is booked as plumbing.
Send a photo of each radiator valve (close up, with the old head on) and say how many radiators you want covered. A Hive Hub is needed, and can be set up on the same visit.

Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.
What fitting Hive Radiator Valves involves
On an existing thermostatic valve, Hive says fitting takes around 10 to 20 minutes a radiator. The pro:
- Checks each valve is a thermostatic valve, not a plain on/off valve, and is not leaking or seized
- Unscrews the old head without touching the valve body below it
- Picks the adaptor from the box (M30, M28 or Danfoss RA) that fits the valve
- Fits the Hive valve, inserts its two AA batteries and pairs it to the hub
- Names each valve by room in the Hive app and sets a schedule for it
Radiator valves and your Hive thermostat
Hive Radiator Valves work alongside a Hive thermostat, or on their own. Two things to know:
- Without Hive's heating controls, Hive says the valves only control each radiator while the heating is already on; they cannot switch the boiler on
- Hive's installation guide says the thermostat should not share a room with a radiator on an ordinary thermostatic valve; ask the pro how best to set up that room with Hive's own valves
- Valves need the current Hive Hub or a Hub 360; the original Hive Hub 1 does not support them
- They are not for electric radiators
How Hive installation is priced
A vetted pro prices your job from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the Hive kit, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
Where the wiring already is matters more than the device. A receiver that goes where an old programmer was, on the same wiring, is the simplest job. Hot water on a cylinder, an old wired thermostat to take out of the circuit, a receiver that has to move, or several zones each add time. A photo of the boiler, the old controls and anything labelled near the hot water cylinder lets the pro price what is really there.
Several devices go on one booking for one price: the thermostat, the hub, and Hive Radiator Valves for each room. Other jobs, such as a smart doorbell, can go on the same visit. Where parking has to be paid for, it is added at cost and agreed before you book.
Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour.
How it works
Step 1
Share your boiler and controls
Add photos of the boiler (including the label with its make and model), your current programmer or thermostat, and the Hive kit you have. Say whether you have a hot water cylinder and where your broadband router is.
Step 2
See the price, pick a slot
A vetted pro prices the job from what you sent and says if any part needs a Gas Safe engineer instead. Book once you are happy with the price; evenings and weekends are available when pros have them.
Step 3
Fitted, tested, handed over
Power isolated, old controls removed and made safe, receiver wired and tested, thermostat and hub paired, and the schedule set up in the Hive app with you. You follow it all in the JACK app.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Hive radiator valve fitting cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your job, worked out by a vetted pro from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the Hive kit, and shown in the JACK app before you book. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
Do Hive Radiator Valves fit every radiator?
They fit existing thermostatic valves using the adaptors Hive puts in the box (M30, M28 and Danfoss RA). Older radiators with plain on/off valves need compatible valves fitted first, which Hive says needs a heating professional; that is a drain-down plumbing job, booked separately.
How many radiator valves can go on one booking?
As many as you have radiators. Hive puts each one at around 10 to 20 minutes, so a whole flat or house goes on one booking for one price.
