Hive Multizone Installation in London
Updated
Homes with separate heating zones, such as upstairs and downstairs on their own valves, need a Hive thermostat and receiver for each zone. Hive always recommends professional installation for multizone. A vetted JACK pro wires each receiver in place of that zone's old controls and pairs them one zone at a time, for a fixed price before you book.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London installs Hive multizone where your home already has separate heating zones: one Hive thermostat and receiver per zone, each receiver in place of that zone's existing controls, paired one zone at a time and labelled. Hive does not support OpenTherm on multizone systems, so every receiver runs in relay mode.
Send a photo of each zone's existing controls, the wiring centre if you can see it, the zone valves and the boiler. Say which zone has the hot water.

Each guide covers how the model is powered and mounted, what the pro does and what to send before booking.
How Hive multizone is installed
Hive's installation guide sets the order, and following it avoids receivers paired to the wrong thermostat:
- Every receiver fitted and wired before any pairing starts
- All receivers set to standard relay mode, because Hive does not support OpenTherm with more than one zone
- If one receiver is dual channel, that zone also controls the hot water
- Zones paired one at a time, then each receiver and thermostat labelled with its zone
- Each zone tested on its own: heating on, the right valve opens, the boiler fires, and it stops again
Before you book: is your home already zoned?
Hive multizone controls zones that are already plumbed in. It does not create them. Signs you already have zones:
- More than one room thermostat or programmer, each for a different floor or area
- Two or more motorised zone valves near the cylinder or boiler
- A wiring centre with labels such as 'zone 1' and 'zone 2'
If you want zones you do not have yet, new zone valves mean draining the system, which is plumbing work booked separately before the Hive kit goes in.
How Hive installation is priced
A vetted pro prices your job from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the Hive kit, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
Where the wiring already is matters more than the device. A receiver that goes where an old programmer was, on the same wiring, is the simplest job. Hot water on a cylinder, an old wired thermostat to take out of the circuit, a receiver that has to move, or several zones each add time. A photo of the boiler, the old controls and anything labelled near the hot water cylinder lets the pro price what is really there.
Several devices go on one booking for one price: the thermostat, the hub, and Hive Radiator Valves for each room. Other jobs, such as a smart doorbell, can go on the same visit. Where parking has to be paid for, it is added at cost and agreed before you book.
Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour.
How it works
Step 1
Share your boiler and controls
Add photos of the boiler (including the label with its make and model), your current programmer or thermostat, and the Hive kit you have. Say whether you have a hot water cylinder and where your broadband router is.
Step 2
See the price, pick a slot
A vetted pro prices the job from what you sent and says if any part needs a Gas Safe engineer instead. Book once you are happy with the price; evenings and weekends are available when pros have them.
Step 3
Fitted, tested, handed over
Power isolated, old controls removed and made safe, receiver wired and tested, thermostat and hub paired, and the schedule set up in the Hive app with you. You follow it all in the JACK app.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Hive multizone installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your job, worked out by a vetted pro from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the Hive kit, and shown in the JACK app before you book. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
How many zones can Hive control?
Hive's product page says up to six zones of heating on an existing multizone system, each with its own thermostat and receiver. Some Hive features, such as Saver Mode and Schedule Assist, do not currently work with multiple zones.
Can I use OpenTherm with Hive multizone?
No. Hive says OpenTherm is only supported on single-zone systems, so on multizone every receiver is set to standard relay mode.
