Hive Installation Cost in London: What Changes the Price
Updated
Two Hive installations can take very different amounts of time. A combi with a timer on the wall is a straight swap; a cylinder system with an old wired thermostat to take out, two zones and radiator valves in every room is a longer visit. A JACK pro prices your job from photos and the JACK app shows that fixed price before you book.
In short
A Hive installation on JACK is a fixed price for your home, worked out by a vetted pro from photos of your boiler, current controls and Hive kit, and shown in the JACK app before you book. The biggest factors are hot water on a cylinder, an old wired thermostat to remove, extra zones and how many radiator valves go on. Paying for time instead, smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.

What makes a Hive job shorter or longer
The time on site is what changes the price. In rough order of effect:
- Where the old controls are: a receiver going where a timer was, on the same wiring, is the shortest job
- Hot water: a dual channel receiver at a wiring centre takes longer than a combi swap
- An old wired room thermostat that has to be taken out of the circuit
- More than one heating zone, each with its own receiver to wire, pair and label
- Radiator valves: Hive puts each one at around 10 to 20 minutes
- Moving the receiver or thermostat, or adding a fused spur where there is none
- Setting up a new Hive Hub where the router is awkward to reach
What is included, and what is not
So the price is clear before you book:
- Included: removing the old controls, fitting and wiring the receiver, testing the boiler, fitting and pairing the thermostat, hub and valves, and an app walkthrough
- Not included: the Hive devices themselves, which you buy; anything at the boiler that needs a Gas Safe engineer; new circuits; plumbing such as new valve bodies
- Parking, where it has to be paid for, is added at cost and agreed before you book
- Your old controls are left with you; taking them away for disposal is not part of the booking
How Hive installation is priced
A vetted pro prices your job from photos of the boiler, your existing controls and the Hive kit, and the JACK app shows you that fixed price before you book.
Where the wiring already is matters more than the device. A receiver that goes where an old programmer was, on the same wiring, is the simplest job. Hot water on a cylinder, an old wired thermostat to take out of the circuit, a receiver that has to move, or several zones each add time. A photo of the boiler, the old controls and anything labelled near the hot water cylinder lets the pro price what is really there.
Several devices go on one booking for one price: the thermostat, the hub, and Hive Radiator Valves for each room. Other jobs, such as a smart doorbell, can go on the same visit. Where parking has to be paid for, it is added at cost and agreed before you book.
Prefer to pay for the pro's time? Hourly hire works too: as a guide, smart home installation is typically £45–£95 per hour.
Frequently asked questions
Should I book Hive's own installation or a JACK pro?
Either can suit. Hive sells its own installation, including for thermostats bought from other shops and for extra zones. A JACK pro shows you a fixed price before you book and can put radiator valves, moved devices and other jobs on the same visit, so you can compare the two.
Can I add radiator valves to the same booking?
Yes. The thermostat, hub and every radiator valve go on one booking for one price.
