Google Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) Installation in London
Updated
Google launched the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) on 1 October 2025 for 18 countries, the UK among them. It is powered all the time from a socket, through a 9 W adaptor in the box and a 5.5 m outdoor-rated cable. A vetted JACK pro in London mounts the camera, plans and runs the cable to a socket and pairs it, at a fixed price agreed in the JACK app first.
In short
Yes. A vetted JACK pro in London mounts the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) and runs its 5.5 m outdoor-rated cable to an outdoor socket, or to an indoor one through an existing vent or a drilled hole, as Google's guide allows. Where no socket is in reach, a new outdoor socket can be spurred from an existing circuit with 30 mA RCD protection, which is not notifiable in England.

Device facts come from Google Nest Help (UK), the Google Store UK and Google's UK installation guide, linked beside each fact. How the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) is powered and mounted
Power is the whole job here. The camera takes 12 V from its own adaptor, which plugs into an ordinary socket, and the 5.5 m cable between the two is rated for outdoors. Google's guide gives two routes: straight to an outdoor socket, or through an existing vent or a drilled hole to a socket inside. Google also says to locate pipes and cables before drilling, so the pro scans the wall first.
On solid London brick, a hole through to a room inside is often the neater route, sealed around the cable once it is through. In a flat or rented home, a hole through an outside wall normally needs the freeholder's or landlord's written agreement first, and it never goes through a flat entrance fire door or its frame. The camera's spot is chosen with the socket in mind, because the cable in the box is 5.5 m long.
Where no socket is within reach, a new one can be added. An outdoor socket taken as a spur off an existing circuit needs no building control notice in England, though it must have 30 mA RCD protection; ask your pro for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate covering it. A new circuit from the consumer unit is notifiable and goes to a registered electrician; JACK does not book that part.
What the pro checks first
- Where the nearest outdoor or indoor socket is, measured against the 5.5 m cable
- Pipes and cables in the wall where any hole would go
- Upload speed at the spot, since 2K video wants at least 3.3 Mbps
- Whether the wall is yours to drill, in a flat, a rental or a listed building
- Whether the circuit a new outdoor socket would come from has RCD protection
What the pro does on the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen)
- Camera fixed on its magnetic wall mount with the screws and anchors from the box
- Cable clipped along the wall to the socket, or through a drilled and sealed hole to one inside
- Adaptor plugged into a socket that stays switched on
- Where agreed, an outdoor socket spurred from an existing circuit, RCD-protected and tested
- Camera joined to Wi-Fi on whichever band reads better at the spot
- Activity zones and alerts set to your own property
How the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) installation goes
- 1Socket position and cable route agreed from your photos before the visit
- 2Wall scanned for pipes and cables, then drilled for the mount and any cable hole
- 3Camera fixed, and the cable clipped and sealed
- 4Adaptor plugged in and the camera powered up
- 5Camera set up in the app and connected to Wi-Fi
- 6Live view, zones and a test alert checked with you
Before you book: what to send
- A photo of where the camera should go, and of the view you want
- A photo of the nearest socket, inside or out, and roughly how far away it is in metres
- What the wall is made of: brick, render or timber cladding
- Whether you want a new outdoor socket added
- In a flat, rental or listed building, the consent you have for fixings and a hole through the wall

Full pricing guide for Google Nest installationFrequently asked questions
Can the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired) plug into a socket indoors?
Yes. Google's guide lets the cable run to an indoor socket through an existing vent or a drilled hole, which suits houses with no outdoor socket. The hole is drilled clear of pipes and cables and sealed around the cable afterwards.
Can the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) record 24/7?
Yes, with the Google Home Premium Advanced plan: Google's help lists 24/7 video history, stored for 10 days, on Advanced only, while the Standard plan keeps event history instead. A new Nest Cam comes with a 30-day trial, and the pro can help you start it, but JACK does not sell subscriptions.
Is it fitted like the original Nest Cam Outdoor?
Not quite. Google's specs for the original Nest Cam Outdoor give a 3 m captive cable plus an outdoor power adaptor on a 4.5 m cable, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only in Europe. The 2025 model has one 5.5 m cable, a 9 W adaptor and 5 GHz Wi-Fi as well, so an old camera's cable route may not suit it.
How much does Google Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) installation cost in London?
It is a fixed price for your Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen), worked out by a vetted pro from the model, a photo of where it is going and what power is there now, and shown in the JACK app before you book. Other devices can go on the same booking for one price. If you would rather pay for time, hourly hire for smart home is typically £45–£95 per hour as a guide.
